Disney has not done a good job indicating whether or not guests are expected to tip the Remote Airline Check-in employees. Are they remote skycaps, similar to curbside skycaps (in which case a tip would be customary and expected)? Or they essentially the same as airlines ticket counter agents (in which case there would be no tipping)?
Here's my understanding: The Remote Airline Check-in employees work for BAGS, Inc. not Disney, nor directly for the airlines. They are not sub-minumum wage employees who rely on tips for the majority of their income. However, they are allowed to accept tips.
I tipped them both times that we used Remote Airline Check-in because I tend to tip anyone who handles my luggage except for inbound Magical Express baggage handling (gratuities covered by Disney if you use the yellow tags), airline ticket counter agents, and TSA security employees.
Yes. It's exactly the same as if you were using curbside check-in. I agree with HH that Disney has done a poor job of conveying this information, however.
If you use the yellow DME luggage luggage tags before you check your bags at your home airport, Disney takes care of the inbound bell service gratuity. That's why you can be out having fun when the luggage is delivered to your room.
If you call for luggage assistance on check-out day, then it would appropriate to tip the bellman.
If you are using DME upon arrival, then the Bell Services CM who eventually delivers your checked luggage to your room has already been "tipped" by Disney. And since you don't need to be present for your luggage to "magically" appear in your room, you can go out and play rather than wait for your luggage in your room!
So the short answer to your question is, NO, you don't need to tip when your DME bags are delivered to your room if you happen to be there.
