Ok, I have been shamed into writing the next chapter of my report. I mean, come on, I can’t let vettechick99 get through before I do. :teeth: Life just seems to weigh on you sometimes, you know what I mean? There is soo much going on these days. The war in Iraq, Confirmation hearings for Alito, epidemics spreading the world over, all battle for time during the evening news. Life is short. It is with this in mind that I follow the advice of a sage among men, who mustered all the knowledge and experience he has had in his 3 years on this earth to gift us with the following morsel of truth.

“Hurry up, or da bus is gonna eeve us!”

So I shall endeavor to complete this report before the bus eeves me.

Day 6

FREE DAY!!!!

Did you ever have free day when you were in kindergarten? We did. We had several “work” stations set up around the room. One was for coloring, one for building things with blocks, one for reading…that sort of thing. On Free Day we got to go to which ever station most interested us. We could even switch stations at will. We were the masters of our own destiny. No one to tell us that it was time to color when we all knew perfectly well it was block building time. Not on Free Day. It was party central. We had some wild ones too, let me tell you. Knockin’ off a six-pack of 2% with the boys….Good Times.

Seeing as how we had already hit all the parks earlier in the week, we decided that this would be a free day. It ended up with Jen and myself heading to Epcot to finish up the World Showcase and the rest of the crew went to Downtown Disney. As I was incapable of being with both groups simultaneously, I can only comment on the day I had with Jennifer.

We got up a bit later than we normally do, much to the joy of my darling wife. We showered, ate a bit, and headed out. Our first stop upon arrival was at Soarin’. We had enjoyed it so much the first go around, that we decided we had to hit it again. The return time for Fastpass was a couple of hours out, so we decided to just do the standby line. It was interesting and I’m glad I did it. We enjoyed the trivia questions that were intermittently popped up on the displays beside the queue. As we are both deathly competitive people, we had to keep score. I can not accurately report to you what the score ended up as, but I can without delay tell you that I won. I know you would not expect any less of me, but I am honored to confirm your high regard of me. My wife may have a different story, but then she’s not writing this report is she? If she wants to spread her filthy pack of lies, she should write her own report. I feel perfectly safe in relaying this to you, as I am typing this at work.

I can get away with that because I am a Network Administrator. I am expected to be at the computer for large chunks of the day…and I’ve gotten really good at using Alt + Tab to switch windows. Thereby avoiding any pesky run-ins with the boss.

Back to the report. Soarin’ was just as fun the second time and I’m really excited to get my Mom’s reaction to it when we go back with them. She’s always said she thought she would like the hang gliding thing if she were a bit more adventurous, so I am interested to see what she thinks of it. As we left the land, the pavilion, we didn’t actually float away, I got a voice mail on my cell phone. It was our other party of intrepid adventurers. They had gone by the customer service center in DTD to pick up our Halloween Party tickets. When we purchased them earlier, we were told that we could pick them up there upon arrival. It seems that we were having a slight problem. Since the tickets were purchased under my name, I had to pick them up. I had not thought this would be a problem due to the fact that they were purchased with my MILs credit card and she was with the other group. They said this did not matter and I would have to be in DTD to pick up the tickets before 4:00. I called them back and told them I got the message and that we would be by to pick them up. Shortly after I hung up with them, my phone rang again. I answered, fully expecting it to be the others again. It was not. It was a friend of mine that has been working on getting me a job with his company for the past few months. I perked up. Not that I would not have been happy to get another call from the others, but the prospect of speaking with your in-laws simply doesn’t match up with the prospect of being freed from a job you hate. Sorry guys. The call was to inform me that the wheels were beginning to turn and something may be in the works. Notice the ease with which I bandy euphemisms about? Don’t try this at home kids, I am a trained professional. When the call ended (I just heard from the company on Wednesday and they told me they were trying to get me an interview…prayers and pixie dust welcomed) we headed to WS.

It was the first time we had ever been present during the Food and Wine Festival and so we enjoyed that. I had a Guiness and Jen had a honey wine from the Ireland cart. I already knew I liked Guiness…I like just about any stout, but Jen wasn’t fond of the honey wine. Honestly, neither was I. It did not have a flavor that appealed to me.

A little further down the line we had a couple of glasses of champagne from France. We stopped by Australia for a bit of steak on the barbie and I had a glass of wine. Not sure what kind it was, as I am about as far from being a sommelier as Courtney Love is from being the Queen of England. I enjoyed it however. It had a bit of a buttery after taste which I thought went remarkably well with the steak. Back to America for a crab cake with cranberry cole-slaw and it was time to see the show. I always like the American show (can’t think of the name of it to save my life).

We had a leisurely walk back through WS and headed out. We left via bus at the Yacht club. Hit DTD, picked up the tickets for the show, took time to call and tell Louise that they wouldn’t let us get the tickets without her there because they were bought with her card. This, of course, was a total lie, but it provided a few minutes of enjoyment. That’s just the kind of wacky, wild people we are. Don’t you wish you could spend time with us?
We headed back to the room to get cleaned up and dressed for MNSSHP. This would be our first experience with Halloween at Disney and we were pretty pumped. We were all going to dress up and this is how the costuming ended up:

Me – Prince Charming
Jennifer – Cinderella
Bryan – Capt. Jack Sparrow
Kristie – Tinkerbell
Deston – Simba
Chase – Spiderman
Trent – Spiderman
Carl – Mickey
Louise – Minnie

That is not a typo…we had two Spidermen. Considering the state of the world today, I’m sure there is always room for another Spiderman.

When everyone was dressed and ready to go, we headed out to the bus stop. We got several stares on our way. That was pretty cool. It’s generally fun to be the center of attention. Except when you have that dream that you are in a bunch of strangers and you’re naked. That’s just a little freaky.

As we stand in line, it begins to pour. Not only is it raining, it is that type of steady rain that seems to be set in for the duration. Needless to say, our spirits were just as damp as our shoes.

The bus finally arrived and we all piled on. A short ride later, we were there. We made our way through the gate and took a moment under the cover of the train station to dry out a little. As we waited we watched the people file through. It was good to see that many of the people were dressed up. Now it would not have bothered me if we were the only ones that had, but Carl was concerned. It was all we could do to keep him convinced to wear his costume in the first place. It did not help matters that once he got his costume on, he saw Bryan was a pirate and I was a prince. We had left him to be the mouse. Granted it was THE mouse, but still… He seemed to think he was getting the short end of the stick.

He remained dressed, however, to the extreme gratitude of everyone in the Magic Kingdom that particular evening. By the time we had dried off a bit, the rain had mercifully stopped and did not start again all evening.

We started down Main Street to see what MNSSHP was all about.

The decorations were wonderful. It’s nice to see someplace with which you are very familiar spruced up to look differently. We got our candy bags and began the trek around the park whilst doing our best impersonation of street urchins.

Us: (in our best English Cockney accent) Please sir, may I have a bit of candy?

We stopped begging long enough to ride Buzz and for Bryan, Kristie, Jen, and me to ride Space Mountain. We went down the trail and got our candy from the Alice characters. That’s Alice in Wonderland of course, not the T.V. show Alice. That would have made a pretty sorry candy walk. I’m sure that before it was over, I would have been subjected to Flo telling me to “Kiss my grits” just for asking for more candy.

We did have our only Dis encounter here though. As we were finishing up on the trail, a man in Royal attire approached me and asked me, “If I said the word ‘DIS’ would it mean anything to you.” I wondered if I had stumbled into some clandestine candy cartel and was in danger of being “whacked” if I didn’t reply with the correct phrase. Just as I was about to inform him that “the one legged man plays hopscotch at midnight”, it dawned on me to what he was referring.

Yeah, I said.

He told me that his wife was AngieBelle. We chatted for just a moment and then made our way off the trail. I want to take this opportunity to say, I very much enjoyed meeting you and your family. I’m sorry we did not take more time to spend with you, but the last thing you want to do is anger the spidermen by wasting time standing around when there is candy to be begged. I hope you don’t think us rude.

The herd decided it was time to graze and so we headed into Cosmic Ray’s and got some grub. There was some concern that we would not finish eating in time to see the Halloween version of Wishes. We decided to take our food and see if we could find a place closer to the castle to eat. We found what we thought was the perfect spot, just to the side of the castle on one of the spokes of the hub.

By the time we had finished eating, the area around us was packed with people and the show was about to start. We readied ourselves for a treat. Wishes this close to the castle would be wonderful. The first shell exploded and our mouths fell open. Not because of the beauty of the firework, but because we couldn’t see it for the massive tree beside us.

Now it’s not like the tree snuck up on us and jumped out just in time to block our view, we saw it before, we just thought the fireworks would be mostly above or in front of the castle. They were, in fact, mostly behind the castle. We saw a few, but not many.

Determined not to miss the parade in a similar fashion, we made our way there immediately and got front row seats. The parade was really cool and the kids enjoyed it immensely.

We spent the last few minutes of the party riding rides in Fantasyland. This was the last day for the boys and we wanted them to go out with a bang. We hit Pooh, Small World, Peter Pan, and Dumbo, and then made our way through the castle and toward the busses.

I think I will end this chapter of the report here. I have just a bit to say about the next day (the rest of the crew drove home while Jen and I stayed another day) and I promised you all some pictures.

I’ll try to get those up tonight.

That's a bummer about the fireworks. I knew they advertised it as "you will be surrounded..." but we were behind the castle (right bext to Dumbo) and we were engulfed. They were coming at us from every direction. It was very loud and I don't think my little nephew was too thrilled about it. I think this year (as we are planning for another trip the same time) we will do a little more planning as a place where we won't feel like we're under attack. :scared: But the display itself was amazing and the music was really excellent.

One more tidbit, personal fave from the parade...how 'bout them gravediggers :scared1: .... That's all I have to say about that....

wife?? Goodness, I'm not married. :)

I was with a family who are friends of mine. His wife was dressed like a jester, and his little girl and I were both dressed as Cinderella, but people kept thinking I was the mother/queen! The man used to be known as Yepod on the DIS, but he doesn't post much anymore. He's old enough to be *my* father. hehe.

I do have a boyfriend who works as a character attendent. :)

Oops...sorry about that. No offense meant I assure you. All I know is all those we met were very nice.

Oh don't worry- that's why I put the smilies. :) I just thought it was funny. I actually had a hunch that you were from the DIS because I'd read of a DISer who was going as Prince Charming with Cinderella, but I was feeling too shy to approach you, so my friend did instead. It was nice to meet you. :)

What a great trip report! I lost count of the number of times I laughed out loud. Now if I can only get DH to read through it, since our own WDW fix is still a few months away. I've loved reading it and can't wait to see the pics. Thanks for sharing!

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.
