ME and luggage

Anyone carried their own luggage on ME instead of using the luggage delivery service? Last year we took ME, with a late airport arrival, to AKL. Our bags were not delivered until the next morning. Although we had our essentials in carryon bags, it was somewhat of an inconvenience (no change of clothes for all of us for the next day).

This year we will again be arriving very late (after midnight) and staying our first night at ASSports (not so great luggage service). I was wondering if anyone has just carried their luggage to the resort with them on the shuttle. I'd love to hear from some people who've done just this...how did it work? Were there any problems with the ME people in doing this?

Thanks!

I have taken ME Twice Both late also staid at ASSports the first time ME was only about a week old didn't quie trust it especially late night second time checked it in and got it in my room less then an hour after I got to my room. but I belive I read on this board that they now have a cutoff time when the luggage will be brought to your room that night or the next morning.

When we had a late arrival last August, it was suggested that we take our own luggage by the DME people on the phone. We changed our flight, so didn't have to do that. Obviously though, getting your own luggage isn't a problem. Don't use the yellow tags!

We are getting in around 10:42 pm this year. We plan to let them bring our luggage and have it delivered in the am. I always pack a change of clothes in my carry on anyway - you never know when your bags will get lost.

Thanks...anyone else out there taken your bags with you on ME shuttle?

I haven't, BUT there should be no problem whatsoever from the DME people.

Remember, if your flight lands on the B side of the terminal, you'll have to go down one level to get your luggage, then back up to the concourse and across to the A side (all one building), then down two floors to check in for the bus.
Also, Disney takes care of all tipping if Guests use DME as intended. Other Guests should plan/budget to handle these tips themselves.

I don't believe that Disney tips the drivers from what I have read on these boards. We had our carry ons with us, and tipped the driver when he unloaded them at our resort. We would have tipped him even if we didn't have carry ons.

I think the previous post explains well why most people would not get their luggage before getting on the bus. I know that we always arrive on the B side.

We took the ME and took our luggage on the bus with us because we didn't want to wait for it to arrive that trip. It was no problem. We retrieved our luggage from the airline carousel (don't use the yellow tags) before going to the ME check-in area and showing our ME booklet, then proceeded to the line-up area with our luggage trailing behind us. When we were called out to our bus, we simply rolled our luggage with us and before we got on the bus we left it with the attendant to be placed underneath. Since they knew where we were going, they placed it underneath according to the hotel. Once we arrived at our hotel, we got off and our luggage was already sitting there ready for us to retrieve. We tipped the gentleman since they don't get a tip from Disney for handling luggage when we bring our luggage with us on the bus.

Thanks to all who replied...this was just what I needed to know. I knew I'd find the answers here on the DIS!
