Our first time using ME will be on Thursday! We are flying with Frontier and our flight is scheduled to land at MCO at 7:05pm. How long will it take for the luggage to be delivered to our room? Would it be better to just pick up our bag from baggage claim or is that a time waster any tips? ... sorry, first timers here! Thanks!

No one can give you a definitive answer but expect a minimum of 3 hours from arrival at MCO. Once our bags arrived at the same time we got to our room at Port Orleans Riverside, on another occasion it was about 4 hours.

We have never arrived in the evening however. If it were me I would pack everything I need for the first day in my carry ons and tell the front desk no luggage delivery after whatever time you choose as bed time. Others will suggest you get your bags from the carousel. It is personal preference methinks. You will probably extend your arrival time at the resort by 20-30 minutes by picking up your own bags but that is a guess as we have never done that.

Thanks, I was leaning towards just grabbing the bag off the carousel as we have only one medium sized suitcase for the 2 of us. I was just wondering how much time that might tack on :)

If you put the DME tag on the bag, it will not be sent to the baggage carousel for your flight.

The Magical Express goal is for your bags to get to your room within four hours of when you can. Most bags make it within three. Most guests do not know for sure because they go off to the parks within minutes of getting to their resorts.

A few resorts (All Stars, Pop Century, Art of Animation) have not executed DME bag deliveries to rooms after 10 PM, holding off until dawn. This may have changed recently.

Personally I do not put the MDE tags on bags if we're landing at 5pm or later. It's personal choice but twice we were ready to head to bed but I had to stay up and wait for luggage to arrive. Once it didn't arrive until 2:30am (my request that they deliver whenever it arrived) even though our flight arrived at 7pm as our luggage delivery from airport was delayed.

It's personal choice but I like to unpack and prepare for our first day in the park so prefer to pick up our luggage if we arrive after 4:30.

If you are wanting to get to your resort and go to bed then you may want to pick up your luggage.
If not then I strongly advise letting them pick it up and deliver it.
It CAN take 3 hours after you arrive at the resort so could be after 11pm.
ALTHOUGH I WILL SAY PERSONALLY IT HAS NEVER EVER TAKEN THAT LONG FOR ME.
I HAVE RECEIVED MY LUGGAGE SOMETIMES ONLY 20 MINUTES AFTER I GET TO MY ROOM AND IT HAS NEVER TAKEN MORE THAN 2 HOURS.

I would pick it up yourself. After waiting over 7 hours for luggage one time (landed 11:30am, delivered 7:00pm), after a friend's luggage was delivered to the room across the hall, after a friend's luggage was sent to the wrong resort and was missing for 2 days, we pick it up ourselves. It's worth the 20 minutes to get it and know where it's at. Didn't help our confidence when the last time we checked in at the DME desk to go to Polynesian, their records showed we were staying at Saratoga. Never had a reservation for Saratoga, ever.

I’d pick it up too because I’d worry about not getting it before going to bed and getting woken up or having to arrange delivery in the morning before headed to the park for the day.

No. You arrange the luggage hold when you arrive at the hotel.

First, it's supposed to be delivered within 3 hours after you arrive at the RESORT, not when you land at MCO. So, assume the "normal" 90 minutes from deplaning to arrive at the resort, and you're looking at four an a half hours after you land before expecting your luggage. That's 11:30P.

Second, you should ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, have enough clothing/medications/whatever with you as carry on to support you for the first 24 hours. This has nothing to do with DME, and everything to do with airlines possibly misdirecting your luggage.

Third, collecting your luggage before going to the DME pickup location will take at least 30 minutes, potentially slightly longer if your airline delivers luggage on the A side of the airport (DME is on the B side).

Personally, if it was me, I'd let DME take care of my luggage and make sure I have what I need for the first 24 hours. When I was ready to go to sleep (if the luggage hasn't been delivered), I'd call luggage services at the resort and ask them to hold the luggage until the next day.

I have had a few times where I have arrived at the resort between 6-7 PM (landed at MCO 5-6 PM), and am calling at 11 looking for bags. This last time I had to go down to the lobby around 11:30 PM after no one was answering the phone at Bell Services to find someone. They confirmed that my bags were there, but they still had a bunch more to deliver before ours. I asked to just get them from the storage room and I would wheel to the room since it was only 2 bags. My next trip I will most likely just grab the bags. I did last spring and it was just way easier and less stressful for the 1st night than waiting for the bags.
