MDE on iPhone, do I need to upgrade OS?

Hi there.. I am curious if I need to update my operating system to 7.1 prior to using the MDE app in the parks. Is there any advantage to this? I've been holding off on the upgrade due to mixed reviews of it so far.

I haven't upgraded my iPad to 7.1 and MDE works fine. The last upgrade of MDE was prior to iOS 7.1

MDE will run with iOS 6.1 or higher.

DH and I just got back from our trip and I had not upgraded but my husband had. I was able to see park hours and wait times but could not make any changes to fastpass+ or make dining reservations...we just had to use his phone.
