MDE & Friends Staying With Me

I have friends staying with me (rented points, they're on the reservation). Do I need to add them on MDE? I've only traveled with family before.

I guess I appreciate a Moderator moving this - but I don't quite understand why since this is solely about a resort reservation. If anyone can share how this is a Theme Park strategy, that would be helpful because I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

Thanks - my question is why do I need to (or do I need to)?
In order to link them to the reservation, they need to be part of your MDE. Otherwise, they will not be able to ride DME unless they are arriving and departing with you, or open the room door with their MBs.

When you go to link the reservation in your own MDE, the software will try to match up the names on the reservation with people in your MDE. If they aren't there, MDE will want to add them to your Friends & Family list. But the names "John Smith" and "Mary Jones" aren't linked to your specific John Smith and Mary Jones. They are just phantoms until you link them thru a friend request.

If they want to use old MBs, you will need to send a friend request to the email they use for their own MDEs.

If being able to see the reservation in their own MDE, or using MBs for anything other than their park tickets is unimportant, then linking them thru a friend request is unnecessary. As far as Disney's software is concerned, the John Smith in your MDE and the true John Smith are two different people. But you still have to have names in your MDE that match up with the names on the reservation.

I’m not sure why it’s moved to theme park, but I might be able to shed some light on this for you. My friend added me and ds to her DVC reservation. In oder to make more than 3 park reservations with my AP, we had to link accounts (request friends/family). As well as to swim at Storm along bay, enter the room with mb, etc.

We just agreed that I don’t touch any of her stuff and she doesn’t touch any of mine. And tech support said we’d lose our tickets if we unlink. So I see all her ticket and fp info and she sees mine. But any dining or additional resort stats are not shown because we both tapped to only allow to see shared experiences.

I'm assuming you rented points to your friend. They just need the reservation number and their last name (lead guest). Then they can match up the guests to whoever is in their MDE. You add ME online for DVC. The owner has to be logged in to do it.

If you aren't the owner and rented the points and they are staying with you, then yes, you need to add them in MDE and match them up. whoever is the lead guest has to match up all the other guests. You have to ask the owner to request ME.

No, sorry. I am the lead guest (having rented points from a company) and they are accompanying me (my kids can't go). OK, thanks everyone. I now get that I need to (though I still don't quite get the why but that's less relevant).
