MDE app/website issues and Customer Service woes

I have never...ever...in my life, ever had to call IT to plan a vacation. IT shouldn't even be a customer facing department. But here we are. Disney has made their planning so convoluted, so bloated, and relying on a worthless app and a broken website that trying to plan this vacation has become an absolute bear, and I'm over it.

Having just had family decide to join our upcoming trip, I now find myself in the unenviable position of "linking friends & family" (of which two are my 70+ year old mom and dad who are not tech savvy). For starters, the way to even do that on the app is so buried in the bowels of the app I couldn't find it. I finally figured out how to do it on the website, and even though everyone accepted my invitation, some people don't appear in my list and we don't appear in some of theirs.

To make matters worse, Mom Dad Sis and BiL are staying at the Dolphin which adds an extra layer of problems as it isn't a Disney resort. I tried to input their resort reservation number into my DAD'S MDE account, which I can access, to link his room (booked by my sister) to him and Mom and it's forcing me to choose 4 adult names for the room even though they only booked it for 2 adults. There are two rooms booked. My sister already linked her and her DH to one room. The other is for mom and dad. If I link sis and BiL to the second room is it going to screw things up or trigger and extra adult fee for them for the room?? At this point I don't care if it does.

On MY account, I had a friend listed in my F&F group from a 2014 trip. I wanted to delete him since he isn't traveling with us and would slow down how quickly I could select our travel group for booking those coveted hard-to-get iLL$. It wouldn't let me. Insisted he had "active plans". He did not. I did a chat session with a DVC CM who was able to delete him (he apparently still had an active magic band listed in my account which we deactivated and then she deleted him). I checked on the app to see who would be linked for Genie+ or iLL$ purchases and lo and behold, the friend's name is STILL there (even though he no longer appears in my list on the website or app).

So, I have to call IT to have him deleted AGAIN. And to get my parents and sister linked to me and their resort reservations linked to them properly so we can have a freaking vacation. I have called THREE times today. The first time it disconnected after 20 minutes. The second time I actually got a CM after 5 minutes who was curt and wanted me off the phone, insisting I was calling the wrong department (I called the number for technical help as listed on the website) . I insisted I called the tech help number and after answering all the prompts I was routed to her. She insisted that NO...when you call tech help, regardless of your actual problem, you have to say "PASSWORD RESET" to get to tech services....

So wait...I have to know the secret password to speak to IT??? Jot that down gang. If you want to speak to IT, you have to answer "password reset" at the prompt and not "technical support" (which is what I said).

Now I'm on hold (wait time 80 min) on call #3. I put in a request for a call back...the prompt says OK and reads me back the phone number they have on file to call me back.. It is NOTHING remotely close to my phone number.

I'm not happy.

I did do a second chat with DVC member services today about deleting the old friend. She says she can't see him on my account but I assure you when I go to book a Genie+, there he is. She said something about him being linked twice to his email and having to merge the account into one. Didn't fix the issue and she told me to call IT. I told her "At least I know the secret password now".

Sadly, such have become business as usual.

DH had some Disney chat open from 5:00 till we went to sleep at 9:30 one night. Never got anything.

Noticed in the morning a message saying the chat was closed at 11:something because he didn't respond when asked how they could help.

We just laughed a bit hysterically. Only a 6+ hour wait to get an answer to a simple question these days.

I got a call back at close to 9pm. CM was lovely but couldn't figure out why the previous friend was still showing on our list of F&F in Genie+. Had no fix to offer other than to ignore him. I swear if him being on there messes up how quickly I can book RotR I will lose my mind.

I had a few people I couldn't remove, back in the old boarding group days. I made all of their profile pictures Cinderella and added a z before each of their last names. It moved them to the bottom of the list and made them easy to sort out.
When I booked ILL$ in October and November, they didn't automatically appear in my pre selected party, it was only the people on my reservation.

Your friend being on your account shouldn't affect your Genie+ purchases. We were there in January with a group of 8, in two separate rooms, and everyday only the people who had active park reservations for that day would show up. I bought ten years worth of hoppers a few year back and have them all on my account as dummy friends/family. None of them showed up when trying to do anything in Genie+ while at WDW as none had active park ressies.

It's weird because he isn't on my F&F list. They did delete him. He only shows up on my Genie+ list when I go to purchase it or iLL$.

Hopefully when you actually check in to your resort the system will sort itself out and only pull your F&F with active park reservations.

Hopefully.

I've been giving some praise to Genie+ as of late, but I'm by no means a Disney cheerleader, and all of the issues that you are having are unfortunately not unique or a one-off, which is just crazy. The lack of customer service when people are desperately trying to give Disney their money is what baffles me and irks me the most of all recent complaints. Last year we had some issues with some expiring CM tickets that belonged to my parents, getting them appropriately linked and booking days. My parents spent over 20 hours total on hold just trying to sort out Disney's self created mess.

Yet when I had to call a month or so ago to add a guest onto my room then add another night, the hold times were suddenly low, and I called several times at different times of the day. I thought finally Disney was getting the situation under control. I guess not.

We were there last week. I hear you...our latest stay at WDW was time consuming work.
Ironically that is where we go once in a while to get away from work.

I have the same on my app. A niece appears who was deleted from my MDE account years ago. Have only done one trip with this ridiculous Genie so far, and I ignored her on my app.

Did it make any problems for you trying to quickly reserve individual lightning lanes at 7am? I just really need Rise for my parents.

I so hate the "fastest finger" contest Disney has created. They may as well give out LL via lottery.

Truthfully, I didn't end up rushing to book any of the attractions, so I don't know if it would cause a lag. I'm getting to a "I can't be bothered with this nonsense" place. Sorry I don't have more info for you.

I have lots of people in my friends list who I no longer travel with. I've not bothered to jump through the hoops to remove them because they've never interfered with Genie+ or LL bookings. In all the times I've done that the only people who show up to make selections are those with park reservations for that day. Since they don't even have tickets they never show up as an option for anything but booking dining since tickets aren't needed for those.
