I saw plenty of info on how to get from Disney to Universal. But, what is the best/cheapest way to get from the airport to universal for a family of 4?

Well, the city buses run if you want cheap but it involves transfers and takes about two hours. You can do a shuttle or rent a car. But cabs are actually cheaper than shuttles. : the fare finder I used (sorry, I'm on my phone and don't have the link right now) estimated a cab at around $45 each way and it takes about 45 minutes.

We hire a towncar. About $100 RT , includes a 30 min grocery stop

We usually just take a cab. It is about $50 with tip. We find that it takes under half an hour. It is about 18 miles if you want to do a cab estimator.

Just check a taxi rate http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.php?city=Orlando, no ADR, and maybe cheaper... Maximum rate is about 50$ tips included.

The only issue with taxi's might be enough room for everyone's luggage. I took a taxi a couple of years ago it was around $43 before tip.

I looked at Mears and it was $30 round trip to RPR. I've only had one bad experience with Mears ever, and it wasn't even all them. It was mainly Sheraton having two resorts with almost identical names.
