What's the best way to get from MCO to the double tree in Cape Canaveral? And is that my best on beach hotel for the trip?

Sorry don't know answer but I do know the Cocoa Beach (presume that's what you mean) DoubleTree literally just opened back up this week. (My daughter's condo is like 2 doors away). We've been diligently following the construction as an added place to stay if needed. She looked all around yesterday and said it's wonderful.

Renting a car at MCO (if the rental car situation calms down) is very easy to get to that Double Tree). We went up A1A a million times from Cocoa Beach to Canaveral.. And past MCO many times on way to WDW on Route 528.

Good luck on your answer.

We've driven from Orlando to the port before, though it's been awhile. I was just hoping to find something cheaper than the 100 + to rent the car and drop off by the port. Do you know if I can drop the car off at the double tree?

We have stayed at the Hampton Inn in Cocoa Beach a few times Hampton Inn Hotel in Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral, FL (hilton.com) and it has become our "go to" hotel for a couple of nights before a cruise. In the past, when we rented a car from Budget, we would drop it off at the office on Astronaut Boulevard the afternoon before the cruise. It is about 3 miles from the rental car office to the hotel and I've walked it a couple of times. With our past two cruises, we used a shuttle service from MCO to the Hampton Inn. It was not much more than the cost of a car rental, but it saved me from having to drive after a long travel day. We always took a shuttle from the hotel to the port ($6.00 per person in 2019) the morning of the cruise.

Thank you for the intel.
I wish I could remember the name of the hotel we stayed in the very first time, but that was years ago. I think we were supposed to have a view of the ship from our window.

I'm sorry I do not because that Double Tree has been closed for a couple of years due to the Hurricane. Literally just opened up. I do know we rented a car Dec though March this year from Budget in Canaveral. But we picked it up from there and dropped it off there (would be easy to Uber to/from Double Tree. We WERE going to pick it up at MCO and drop it back at Budget but then it suddenly was cheaper to to both at Canaveral and son in law picked us up at MCO and drove us to Budget to rent for the 3 months.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Call the Double Tree and ask. Worth asking. They are now officially open.

I had no idea about the Hurricane I've been on the west coast for 5 years now.... when you mentioned it had closed I thought it was because of C-19.

We stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Cocoa Beach the day before our cruise. We use Tiffany Towncar from MCO to Courtyard, Uber to ship the morning of and TTC picks us up at the Terminal after the cruise and either back to MCO or to WDW. Very easy.

UBER should be under $100 ... usually around $70 from MCO to the port.

right now it is $62 for X and $87 for XL

is it 'best'?

The location is on the beach with direct access which is rather unusual in Cocoa Beach as most of such frontage is condo and not hotel. On the other hand it is not particularly close to the port ... there are several (and some brand new) properties MUCH closer to the port ... but they are not on the beach. {are you going to arrive early enuf for beach access to make a difference?}

Country Inn and Suites
The Radisson
Marriott Residence Inn
Homewood Suites

The above hotels are all within a block of each other and the closest four to the port. I have heard the Country Inn and Suites has a room that you could see the ship from. None of these hotels are on the beach but each has a pool and are close to food. We have stayed at all of these and the Doubletree and the Marriott Residence Inn is our favorite.

We'll arrive hopefully in the afternoon the day before the cruise, which would give me time to enjoy that beach access.

It appears that the cost of a one-day rental or a car service [taking an Uber to the Doubletree + taking an Uber to the Port] are close - $130.00 vs. $100.
If you do the rental, you will have to drop your family & luggage off at the Port early, drop off the car at the rental agency, and get a ride back to the Port.
If you Uber, you will not have a car to run errands or go out to eat the night before the cruise. You could also use Uber for these scenarios [Uber Eats?] but you are coming closer to the rental cost.

Alternatively, you could forego the beach and stay closer to the port at one of the hotels with a free [or low cost] shuttle to the Port [e.g., Radisson] to reduce costs.

Have a great cruise.
:)

We booked Beachline Transportation for four passengers from MCO to Port Canaveral for $139. I’m happy with the rate since we have a late arrival time at MCO…10:30 at night. I was happy enough with the price that I added transportation to Disney World after the cruise.
