What's the best way to get to BLT from the airport? How much will I need for tolls?

Also, will we pass a grocery store on the way?

Last year when we rented a car from MCO we went south from the airport and took 417 (toll road) practically onto Disney property. I don't think we actually passed a grocery store along the way but we weren't really looking for one. We used a grocery delivery service. It was about a 30 minute trip once we left the airport.

If you take 417 and take exit 6 then when you get to 535 if you turn left and go down about 1 mile there is a Walmart on the right and then about another mile down on the left is a Publix. I shopped at both of these when staying at the Lake Buena Vista Spa and Resort before a cruise a couple years ago. If you go right on 535 there is a Goodings about 1-2 miles down on the right, but I have not shopped there in years.

None of these are difficult to get to and are easy to get back to the WDW area from them.

Directions from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Disney's Bay Lake Tower:

Follow the signs for the South Exit from the airport to pick up SR417 South (also called the Central Florida GreeneWay) towards Disney World. Once on SR417, you'll have 2 toll plazas for $1.50 each. After the 2nd toll, take exit 6 (SR 536/International Drive). Go straight through two sets of traffic lights (first intersection will be International Drive; second will be SR535) which will put you on SR536. Continue straight on this road and go straight through the next set of lights. You will pass the Marriott Orlando World Center on the right and the Nickelodeon (formerly Holiday Inn) Family Suites on the left, then I-4.

Just after you pass I-4, you'll go under the WDW welcome arch. The road becomes Epcot Center Drive. Gradually move over to the left hand lane. You will pass Epcot on your left. As you do, stay in the far left lane following the sign to the Magic Kingdom. When the road enlarges from a single lane to two lanes, get into the right hand lane. Take the first exit on the right (Magic Kingdom). You will now be on World Drive. Stay over to the right.

When you approach the Magic Kingdom parking gates, go to the furthest one operating on the right side.NOTE: do not go into the lane marked "Walt Disney World buses only". Tell the parking CM that you are going to check-in at Bay Lake Tower. They will wave you through. Stay way over to the right and follow that small road. Follow that road straight through the set of traffic lights for about a mile. The entrance to the Bay Lake Tower and the Contemporary will be on the right hand side. When you pull into the entrance, make sure you stay to the left side as you approach the security booth. They will direct you from there.


If you need a grocery stop before arriving at Bay Lake Tower you have several options.

Option 1: Follow the above directions for leaving the airport and picking up SR417. Get off at exit 11 (South Orange Blossom Trail). NOTE: There is a 75-cent tollbooth at this exit that only accepts exact change so be prepared. Turn left at the bottom of the exit ramp. There is a Winn Dixie (open until midnight) about 4/10 of a mile up. If you turn right at the bottom of the exit ramp, there is aSuperTarget (open until 9:00pm Sundays and 11:00 pm every other day) a short ways down.

When finished shopping, get back on SR417 South and continue using the directions above.

Option 2: Follow the above directions for leaving the airport and picking up SR417. Get off at exit 6 (International Drive). Turn right at first set of lights onto International Drive. About 3-4 miles on the left you will see the Premium Outlet Mall. Take a left at the lights at the entrance. Publix is right there on the right. When done shopping, go back out to International Drive and take a right. Follow it to the end and turn right which will put you on 536. Continue with the directions above.

Option 3: Follow the above directions for leaving the airport and picking up SR417. Get off at exit 6 (International Drive) and proceed to the 2nd traffic light where you will turn left onto SR-535. Walmart Supercenter will be on your right after the 2nd traffic light just south of the Lake Buena Vista Factory Outlet Mall. When done shopping, take a left out of the Walmart parking area which puts you back onto SR-535. Take a left at the third traffic light which will put you on SR-536. Continue with the directions above.
