Hello.

Does anyone use something OTHER than the Disney bus to get to the port from MCO? The 4 of us (are going to arrive at MCO early (8am) and would like to get situated as soon as possible in port canaveral. Is sedan service viable? Any oppinions would be great.

We've used Southern Elegance Limousine to get from POR to the port and back to the airport but you can get them to pick you up at the airport. It cost my family of 5 a total of $250.00 for the white stretch limo (plus a nice tip) but it was so nice to have our own transportation, comp soda and water, a ride along character like Mickey or Minnie and Disney DVD's. We also had a grocery stop to get some pop for the kids and some "harder stuff" for the adults.

Here is their website

We rented a car. Dropped off family/luggage. Returned car & came back on the rental car shuttle.

We arrived the day before, so having a car was mandatory for us.

Many people do not use DCL buses to get to/from the port.

We rented a car also. The first time we cruise we used the DCL buses, and while they were very comfortable, they get you to the ship too late and it makes it difficult to do the PALO/Spa reservations. We rented from Budget, my husband dropped us and the luggage, then returned the car. By the time he got back, we were already checked in and were the second group on the line to get on the ship! It also worked out cheaper to rent the car than to go with the DCL buses.

Your options are DCL bus, car rental, or private limo. Obviously, there are many car rental companies and limo companies. I'm familiar with Happy Limo, FL limo, Tiffany limo, etc. ALL of the limo services are cheaper than DCL.

With a limo service, the driver will meet you at baggage claim at your scheduled time. He will take your luggage to the vehicle, and drive you to the port. You are allowed a 15 minute stop at a grocery or Walmart if you desire. He will drop you at the ship's porter area where they will take your bags. You do need to attach the DCL luggage tags after you pick up your bags at baggage check. Do not put them on before you get on the plane because if you do, DCL may pick them up....and if they find that you haven't purchased transfers, they may try to charge you for the baggage handling! I'm only aware of that happening once, but why risk it?

The port opens to incoming traffic at 10. If you arrive earlier, you will have to park and wait...and may be charged extra for the waiting. It is about 45 minutes from MCO to the port. If your plane arrives at 8, you might want to delay your limo till 8:30 or so...which will allow your luggage to be unloaded, etc. but won't get you to the port too early!

We used FL Tours for a nice quiet town car ride- they were fabulous and they help to sponsor the DIS boards.

They will make a grocery stop if you want one too!

One way is $85 and round trip is $160, so it's not under $100. However, you might call or e-mail them (their website is www.happylimo.com and their phone number is 888-394-4277) and have them quote you a price from the motel. We actually were a little bit cheaper from the motel than from MCO. Also, because of our numbers and needing two rooms, our TA actually booked us into the Ramada Inn just a bit further from MCO and it only ran around $40. You may want to call them, though, concerning restaurants in the area since I could not find anything within walking distance on mapquest (and with our crew, you don't want to deprive them of supper!)

I am another vote for renting a vehicle - DH likes the control of being behind the wheel plus if you decide that you did forget to pack something you can stop where ever and as often as you need to.

We used Fl. Tours on our cruise in June. I would use them again if we get to go again. I liked the way they communicated with
me before our cruise and how they helped us out once we got off
the cruise. I wish I could remember the 2 guys that took us but at this moment I have forgotten. They were excellent. As was said before, they sponsor the disboards and I really appreciate
this.
