MCO - New Security Protocols?

Just returned from MCO, did not have PreCheck. Kept shoes on, CPAC stayed in bag, laptop stayed in bag, 3-1-1 stuff stayed in bag and, at WTMD, no alarm for artificial joint (which normally alarms) or camera which I forgot to take out of my pocket. But, the document checker asked about my DL when I used passport for ID. FWIW, doc checker never looked at my face.

Well, that's really unnerving in so many ways :worried: hopefully its new security protocols and not a lack of incompetence on TSA's part :confused:

I also thought it was strange especially during the busy Easter week. A TSA lady was actually scolding many of us who removed shoes, phones, laptops, and liquids before getting to the scanning area. I almost would rather have the extra security and I didnt appreciate the tone of the TSA yelling at people for doing the things we have been trained to do.

You might not have Pre but you *got* Pre randomly. It happens sometimes at any airport.

Some of the Airport Security Screeners just seem to enjoy yelling at pax. :(

i found it odd that 2 weeks ago when i went to MCO to go home i did not have to remove my liquids.
i did however have to take off my shoes.
i thought perhaps it had something to do with the fact that i was being assisted by an airport employee because i needed help getting to my gate due to my visual impairment but after reading this now i'm not so sure.

Back in January we were directed to a line that didn't require that we take off shoes, remove laptops, etc. It seemed like a line control measure since it was pretty crowded. We do purchase the even more legroom/speed seats with JetBlue, but that ususally just puts us on a shorter line. That it's so random, it makes me think TSA is just theater.

Sounds like some sanity replacing security theater. My guess it was a temporary thing when crowds are heavy. We went through the pre-check line at BWI without signing up for it back in February.

This is a new 'test' where you don't have to strip down etc. They do it periodically in Atlanta too.

As for they yelling at people, that's a key part of the process... the TSA seems to think that being thugs is a security system. Yelling and abusing customers is pretty much part of the theatre act that passes for security in the US.

Now they are suppose to look at you when they do the ID check, but if you are expecting the Thousands Standing Around to do a good job .... LOL!

I think the yelling is because a lot people just don't listen. I can't count how many times someone gets to the table and they don't have their things presented properly...jacket on, shoes on, things in their pocket. Or on the pre-check line I was on...some couple was taking all those things off despite the fact the TSA said at least 10 times it wasn't necessary.

Just like with kids, if you constantly yell you get ignored. TSA yells at those of us doing everything right. After a while you become immune to the yelling and just tune it out.

Ah, great concept. Heavy crowds just wave people through the checkpoint. Sure hope the bad guys don't figure that out!

This happened to us last May. But we were pointed in the direction of the pre-check line after getting our hands swabbed for residue, we didn't just go there.

What nonsense!

I'm a 1K on United Airlines (100,000 miles flown a year and they aren't the only airline I travel). Not ONCE have I ever heard a TSA employee yell at anyone or be abusive. No, I don't like having to go through airport security, but describing all TSA employees as "thugs" is just plain wrong. They are mainly a group of government employees just doing their job.

I recall going through the security line at Logan airport travelling to Germany two years ago. The person in line ahead of me either had never flown before and had not done any research or was just clued out. Everyone else is emptying out their pockets, taking off their shoes, taking off jackets, pulling out their liquids - the usual prep to move efficiently through. This woman gets to the line and had to be told to empty pockets, take off jacket, etc. Every. single. step. Seemed to have absolutely no clue and wasn't paying attention to what others were doing. The security personnel never yelled at her but, boy, did I feel like it. When 10 people ahead of you have done the same things, wouldn't you think that you'd figure it out. I gave the TSA guy full credit for not yelling.

I move between Diamond and Platinum on Delta and have 2 Million Miles on Delta. I hear yelling weekly and sorry but screaming at Grandma "get out of that wheel chair" qualifies you for 'thug status' as do things like telling me "you know that I can arrest you for this corkscrew" (My only response to that statement was "please call your supervisor, I am not discussing this with you" That shut him up.)

One would think that Airport Security Screeners should be told in their training that they do not have arrest powers.

I can believe someone who says they themselves never were yelled at. But claims from a frequent traveler that they never heard the barking is simple unbelievable?

You are well known here for disparaging the TSA, so I am sure you believe everything bad written about them is true.

Believe me or not; I don't care. I truthfully have never heard a TSA employee yell at anyone.

For those who have said here they are frequently yelled at/abused, perhaps you should examine your own behavior.
