If I go get the car while DW heads for the luggage can I drive around and pick the family up at arrivals? TIA

You can, but that would be a pain. Once you get separated, it will be more work to get connected up again. Just stick together, at most it will take you an extra 15 minutes.

Agree with PP that I'd hesitate to be separated. I do not think it would save very much time, if any. But I'm wondering if you are doing this to save time -- or to avoid dragging luggage around?

If it is to save time: we have (many, many times) gone directly to the Alamo kiosk, got the rental papers, and then went back up to luggage belt --we beat the luggage every time. This probably does not work if you have to go to the counter or get stuck in a line.

You can rent a wheeled cart for a couple of bucks to wheel out the luggage if dragging around tons of luggage is the issue.

If I remember correctly, the car rental places are right by the luggage. I would just stay together.

I usually go to the Alamo Kiosk and then meet the family at the luggage belt. I was trying to find an easier solution to making the walk back to the car with luggage and three kids.

When we leave I drop everyone off at departures, return the car and meet them in the airport. So I was curious if it would work in reverse.

Yeah i see what your trying to get at but you aren't fare from the airport terminal so I'm not sure how much time your really saving other than luggage is on 2 / sometimes 1 depending on your airline and then you just walk over once you get to level 1 and pick your car. Since Alamo / National are now on the 1st floor it's pretty simple.

Upon your clarification that the goal is to avoid the trudging out with bags and kids, I think it is a pretty good idea. As long as you know exactly where you are meeting because the security guys outside at MCO arrivals are no-nonsense. :thumbsup2

My only thought is that this would be a hassle for the other parent having to manage the bags and three kids to the arrivals area. But that's what ther giant elevators are for.

I always do this. I head to the rental car with the carry on luggage and then pick up the rest of the group. It looks like you have a couple of kids in tow. You may want to take the littlest one with you, especially if they need a car seat. You can then strap in the seat in the parking lot verses rushing at the pick up lane.

Well since I was able to check in online for my car rental and no longer need to hit the counter or kiosk I guess we'll all get the luggage and head to the car together.
