MCO Alamo with debit card?

I read their TOS at Alamo and under debit cards it says:

• For pick-ups in the United States, without proof of round-trip ticket, debit or check cards are accepted only when returning the vehicle. A credit card in the name of the renter must be presented at the time of pick-up.

Under Payment Policy it says:

Credit Card

A credit card, with available credit and in the renter's name, must be presented. The signature on the back must match the name imprinted on the card. In addition, if the renter has an online transaction, the number and name printed on the card presented by renter must match the name and number stored for the online transaction.

There is no mention of using a debit card under the payment policy. But it another area it seems like you can use one if you show a round trip ticket. Has anyone ever rented from Alamo with the debit card? How did it go? Was there a large hold on the debit card? Thanks for any info.

I have used my debit card in the past. The only charge on my card was the total cost of the rental. That was charged the day I picked up the car. There was no additional hold or charges to my account. As long as you return on time and make sure you fill up the car prior to return unless you prepaid for gas you should be ok.

I just used my DC for my rental thru Alamo. I only had charge for cost of rental on my card. I even did online check in etc.

Alamo doesn't do holds. As long as you have a roundtrip ticket you can rent with a debit card. If you don't have a ticket you can only pay with a debit card on returning the rental. You'd still need a credit card to get it out the lot without a ticket initially.
