We will be staying at RPR in March. We won't have a car. Is there anything within walking distance for a fast breakfast or a small amount of groceries. Is there a McDonalds close by? Looking for ways to save money and I don't think we can afford to eat meals at CityWalk every day. Thanks in advance.

From what it looks like, I don't think so.

There are a few close ones like the one on Kirkman, and there is another one on Sand Lake, Int'l Drive area.

I don't think the I Drive trolley stops at Universal, but that would be helpful to you.

I've seen the trolley going up and down I-Drive area.

The closest thing to Universal is a Wallgreens on Universal Blvd. and International Drive. You would have to exit the hotel at the entrance and walk Over I4. I am guessing it is about a 2 to 3 mile walk each way. I don't know how you are getting to Hotel but you may want to stop at a supermarket to pick up Soda and Snacks prior to your arrival. If that is not possible read the posts regarding the clear channel gift certificates, I did not use them so I don't know much about them. Basically, this will get you a 50% discount on food at the restuarants there valid for. Have a quick breakfast at the park. Both parks have bakery type shops where you can get a breakfast sandwich, coffee or drinks for not very much. Also the Citywalk finger food restuarants are not very expensive and offer a wide selection of foods. The finger food restuarants are Hard Rock Cafe, Jimmy Buffets Margrtittaville, NBA City, and Nascar Cafe. We as a family of three were able to eat at these places for under $50 per night. This was with Appetizers and some of the more expensive entrees. Universal is not like Disney, where the magic is making your money disappear.

We used the onsite bus that takes u to SW & WnW to get to
I-D rive as WnW is right next to ponderosa, sizler etc a cab back to the resort from there is $5 u can walk it about 25 min walk we did walk a few mornings just for excercise but always got cab back due to shopping:jester:

Thank you for your responses. I will see if we can make a grocery stop on the way. Great idea.

I didn't realize there was a trolley than ran up and down International drive. I'll tuck that information in for future use!

Interesting thought on taking the bus to WnW. I never would have that of that.

Thank you all for your help.

Plan for the trolley being crowded---and if you decide just to ride it up and down once like we did, they make you get off at the end and wait for the next one. Having said that, we got the trolley map and looked up places to eat. Found a place called Whistle Junction around 13th St (I think?). (across the road from Fun Spot Amusements) This is a very reasonable (and good!) buffet. It's called Ryan's up in our area, but resently changed names down there....all set up like trains inside, kids would love it. They have 4 diff. stations for food and cook steaks n' stuff to order. They bring piping hot cornbread (delicious too!) right to your table PLUS a huge dessert selection that even tempted my dh. I'm thinking around $10 per adult, less for kids 10/under WITH coupon from trolley brochure. BTW, taxi out to Wet N'Wild only cost us $4 and worked better than waiting for the hotel shuttle. Also, you can buy trolley tickets right at the hotel concierge desk--they'll give you a map there (you'll recognize a lot of places no matter where you are from!! lol)

A McDonalds is a couple block norths of the Portifano Bay Resort on Kirkman road. It would take a good 10 minutes to walk from the hotel. The RPR is on the complete other side of the complex, way to far to walk. If you did, you'd walk along Universal Blvd, across the bridge, to I-Drive, and go from there. It would take you a good 20 minutes to do that. If you feel like walking, it can be done.

If you are not renting a car, have the driver stop at the Publix grocery store on the way. It's located about a mile north on Kirkman at the NW corner of Conroy road. Go inside, get a styrophone cooler in the beer isle, doughnuts, milk, juice, snacks, beer, and you can get ice at the hotel. When you leave, just leave the cooler next to the ice machines. You'll save a ton of money and most of all, time in the morning.
