McDonalds Happy Meal Question

Hey folks, got a silly question for you...Happy Meals include drinks right?

My father just returned from McDonalds where he had taken my children for dinner. The employee at McDonalds told my father that drinks are not included in Happy Meals.

When my father questioned this the employee had a manager come over. The manager told him that drinks are not included in Happy Meals and if he wanted drinks he had to purchase them separately. My father bought the children drinks of course.

I checked the McDonalds website and while I cannot find a contents list for a Happy Meal, their nutritional information page shows the different Happy Meal combinations and drinks are listed however.

i haven't gone to McDonald's in a while but last time i checked they definatly still had drinks with the Happy Meals.

If you look at the receipts here in Central MA, the cost of drinks is listed separately from the meal. If you look at the board and it lists the cost of a Happy Meal for say 2.99 that price does "include" a small soda or milk BUT they separated the cost when ringing up because some people either did not want a beverage OR wanted things like shakes included. So the order will ring up as cheeseburger happy meal 1.99, chocolate milk .99 or whatever the cost is - shakes being more $. Unless you specify a drink, they will not provide you with one. Most places will at least ask if you want one though :confused3

Yes, drinks are included. Here they will let you substitute a Mickey's D's sweet tea (which is 32 oz) for a kid's drink b/c they are the same price!:thumbsup2

Normally drinks are included in the posted price on the menu. The PP poster is correct in saying that on the receipt, the meal and the drinks are listed as separate items (the total should add up to the price on the menu, unless you order something different, like a shake). Basically you can substitute any type/size of drink that you're willing to pay for, since they are added separately anyways.

I worked at Burger King a few years ago, and we *had* to add the drink if a person ordered a meal, even if the person didn't want it. The soda is the store's moneymaker, they would probably lose money if they let you buy the meal without having to pay for the drink portion of it. Does he have the receipt? If they charged you full menu price (and it's the same price as any other McDonald's), I would call corporate and question the policy.

Tiggersmom~ just wanted to say how beautiful your daughter is... congrats!!

back on topic..... yeah, drinks are included in a happy meal, they usually just price it out separately, but it should add up to the price on the menu board

This I AM A EXPERT IN! I have bought thousands of Happy Meals over many many many years.
I have Happy Meal toys Hidden & in view ALL over the house & Car!

YES THE DRINK IS INCLUDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

unless they just changed their policy in the last week!

The only way this would have been true would be if the kids wanted milkshakes or a larger soda. Those would be extra. (When I go to McD I get a happy meal for myself but pay extra for a medium soda.) They even make a big deal out of giving you a choice now...a kid sized fountain drink, white or chocolate milk, or a juice box.

Awww....thank you sweetie!!! I am totally in love and have been blessed with the most perfect baby (eat, poop and sleep :p ) Life is so good......:cloud9:

Sorry for the hijack y'all....

They are included. Just bought 2 this evening.
They are listed seperately on the receipt however. But the sum total comes out to the same price for the HM

I got a happy meal for myself Friday :rotfl: . And I didn't want a drink, but she told me I had to get one anyway. I'm pretty sure they're included in most places.

Maybe that McDonald's is a privately owned franchise. We have one in our area that charges completely differently for things than the ones a mile or two down the road in either direction. :confused3

All the McD's I've been to always include drinks with Happy Meals too.

Sometimes, it's a little irritating, I'll still be ordering and they cut me off to ask what drink I want.

ME: Cheeseburger Happy Meal with fries and --- (here's where I get cut off)
EMPLOYEE: What kind of drink with that?

Well, if you hadn't cut me off you'd already know that. :headache:

I have found though that even if I specifically ask for sauce (nuggets), ketchup, salt, pepper, salad dressing, etc., that I have double check if it's in the bag. More often than not it isn't.

That's odd that the drink isn't inlcuded. I've been to theme parks where the drinks are sold separtaely from the regualr meal they have always been part of the happy meal. Sounds like they just want the extra money, not a smart move.

Our McDonalds even allows my DD to substitute a shake for her drink at no extra charge.

Thanks for the responses. My father checked his receipt and he was charged the full Happy Meal price plus the full price for the drinks. I did send an email to McDonalds asking about it. Should be interesting to see if they write back.

Every one I've boughten has included the drink. However, Mc'D's are franchises. Each owner **may** have the right to vary prices, etc. It would depend on how the franchise agreement is written.
