McDonalds Charging for Condiments!

It doesn't really bother me. The resturant don't get the stuff for free Why should I?

We ran into this at Burger King over a year ago, charged us for Ketchup, we almost fainted. I gave it back and said KEEP IT!! Just NUTS!!

The only Burger King I've ever seen charge for ketchup was one not far from UNC. They gave you 3 packs for free and charged 3 cents per extra. Guess that was to keep the college kids from stocking up their dorms. I just got Mom and my Sis to get me packs as they didn't use it as much as I do.

I've not seen any of the McDonald's charge for ketchup.... Only flack I got was over a toy. They told me I couldn't get the Star Wars toys until several days later, despite them advertising the SW toys.... Mom said they were full of it (she worked for one McDonald's for several years before work stress made her decide to retire early).

I have a little rubbermaid container with some in it. But I don't ask for extras just to hoard them, I only save the ones I'm given that I don't use.

That's what my aunt used to do. She had an extra cookie jar with plenty of ketchup and Arby's sauces in them.

(bolding mine)

That's due to health codes. Anything that goes to a consumers tray or table must be thrown away if left. It's incredibly wasteful in the case of prepackaged stuff that obviously hasn't been comprimised - but the alternative is rinsing off all of the little packets and stuff because someone may have germified them and the next person touching them might get sick.... Sadly we live in a litigious wasteful society.

That's in regard to FOOD. If your burger has gone over the counter and then is brought back, it goes into the trash. But not sealed items like ketchup.

None are charging in my area yet, but since they are all franchises I wouldn't be surprised if some do and others don't. Their pricing does vary by store, though. For example, a large iced coffee at one is a different price and size cup then another McDonalds.

I have NEVER been charged for ketchup or mayo but have for ranch/honeymustard ect and expect that. I have no problem paying for the ranch/BBQ/Honey mustard and do so when asked. But ketchup/mayo I would not pay extra for. DD likes ranch with her fries I like HM with mine, DH likes sweetnsour with his cheeseburger so we ask for these alot. If we pay more OK if we dont all the better!! DD and I eat lots of mayo so I always get extra but we use it.

LOL This post made me laugh. Our McDonalds has signs everywhere saying one sauce per meal. They also have signs on thier doors now that there is a 30 minute time limit on eating in.:lmao: I know this is because of the local kids hanging out but it is a big turnoff. I will NOT pay for WIFI use if I have a time limit. I will just go across the street to the coffee house and use their free service and not worry about the time.

Our McDonalds has also changed their fry sizes. When you order a "super size" you get one scoop of fries. No, they don't tilt it up to fill the container like we were told to do when I worked there as a kid. The fries are supposed to go up to the bottom of the "cutout" according to the day manager (I asked her why I was paying an extra 50cents for super size if I was getting the same or in some cases less fries of course she just looked at me like:confused3 )

Our local McDs is not doing this but I can understand why an owner/operator might.

Like a lot of people, I worked in fast food for a period of time. It was not uncommon for people (usually teenaged guys for some reason) to order their food and, after picking it up, empty the ketchup bin of ketchup packs. After several incidents where the store manager actually WATCHED a person pick up the ketchup bin and dump the entire contents into their sack, he made it where only employees could give out ketchup packs. I don't think it ever crossed his mind to CHARGE for them however.

Why'd they get rid of the Junior Cheeseburger Deluxe? That was my favorite and almost always what I ordered.

Still have it. Maybe they took it off the menuboard but you can still get it. Just ask for a Jr cheeseburger with everything..or add mayo, lettuce, tomato. We still sell the Big Bacon Classic (still proframmed inthe register) and it's bee "gone" for months and month.

May I say that I HATE seeing those double stack commercial!!:headache: Must have seen it at least 100 times already. And because it's .99 we sell them like crazy. Great for getting people in the door, doesn't help labor and absolutely kills us on midshift when's there's only 3 employees in the store. Just can't keep up with all the meat needed for them. Anyway.....just found out yesterday that we WILL be monitored on our condiment "usage" Must ask how many or suffer the consequences :scared:

16 cents is not the problem for me. My problem is putting 16 cents on my debit card, sending it back to the first window, waiting to sign it again. Just increase the price by 16 cents. No different from a restaurant, if I ask for some ketchup will they charge me for the amount I squirted out. Good Grief. You can buy a large bottle of ketchup for about a dollar. 16 cents per teaspoon seems a bit excessive.

Nope, I actually asked. I didnt' see it on the board anymore and said "do you still have the jr cheeseburger" and they said "no, sorry".

But it must be just that location because I stopped at the one near work before I came home and they still had it on the menu board.

Bummer, since the first one is the one right by my house.

I saw on the news last night that McDonalds is having a little trouble. They are opening up a lot of these new coffee bars in their resteraunts. They are costing about 100,000 each. The bank that was working with the franchise owners can no longer give them loans. McDonalds was set to roll out a huge advertising campaign on these coffee bars when they reached 60% completion ( which should have been this fall) but they are only at about 7% due to the financing problem. Now it looks like it will be next summer before they reach their 60%. That is not really the best time to be trying to promote hot drinks.
