Like those burgers and fries for sale under the Golden Arches in Downtown Disney? Well, you’re going to have to travel to the other end of Disney property, down by the All Star resorts, to get them after April 30th (there’s a closer location at Crossroads, but I know how some people are loathe to leave property while on holiday). McDonalds is closing their location in the Downtown Disney marketplace.

While I can’t say I’m upset to see this particular restaurant location closing, some people might miss the opportunity to pick up a quick burger or some fries. To that end, I hope Disney makes some space for a location something like the Shake Shack somewhere on the Marketplace side of the property.

Instead we’re getting Pollo Campero, which specializes in Latin chicken (the second Latin food restaurant to open in Downtown Disney recently). I hope the food is good and the prices reasonable, which is all you can really ask of a fast food location these days. Free Wi-Fi would be good too.

McDonald’s vanishing act should be the final curtain on the parting of the ways that began a few years ago when Disney made the logical choice to associate their brand with food that was not so bad for you or the kiddies. So you’ll find princess logos on apples (the fruit not the mobile device maker) now instead of Happy Meals. No complaints here. I hope somewhere Bob Iger is standing under a banner that reads “Mission Accomplished”

Will you miss Mcdonalds when it goes?

Uh-oh, DBF won't be happy! He wanted to visit McDonald's next time we go (as it's not like we have them over here or anything...). Looking forward to the replacement, should be interesting. :thumbsup2

Oh :( i did enjoy going to Maccy Ds for breakfast on the last morning after dropping luggage off oh well we all can have a maccy Ds whenever we want really no real loss x

WOW thats a shock, it always looks pretty busy whenever we've been walking past. Can't say we'll miss it (there are far too many other delicious options at DTD for us to choose McD's) but surely a lot of people will?

I know! I don't understand WHY McDonald's would close that branch? It's in a prime location and it was always packed full of guests.... :confused3

Copied from one of the links the OP provided:

Representatives for Disney World and McDonald’s said the exit stems from a 2004 decision to end a 10-year exclusive sponsorship agreement between McDonald’s Corp. and Walt Disney Co. The Downtown Disney restaurant was included in that agreement.

I agree simply down to location it's a surprise, not the biggest fan of McDonald's but we have used this one a few times in the past and it was kind of 'part of the furniture'.

They were always good for a McFlurry whilst walking back to the bus stop. I know they were strictly "unhealthy" but I expect its easier to find something a child would eat in McDonalds - I'm not so sure about the Latin Chicken - sounds kind of spicy for a little one??

Besides you are allowed to be unhealthy on holiday ;)

Only been in it once years and years ago, if having a fast burger then I usually go find a BK, never liked McD burgers.

:thumbsup2 Hubbys in love with the BK Whopper bar in Citywalk.
I still prefer the inpark burgers there though.

If this is linked to the end of a 10 year sponsorship, I wonder if the little snack spots "hosted by Macdonald" in the parks are going to follow

It's not my cuppa tea, but as a previous poster said, great for a mcflurry - and I am in the minority - so many people love it!

It's not always about children though, there are plenty of places to take them throughout WDW. I think it's good to have some choices geared towards adults. :thumbsup2

Haven't some of those already gone? Not sure. :confused3

Not a huge mcdonalds fan while on Orlando.
But it is wrong to describe it as unhealthy when comparing it to the
other restaurants and types of foods available, not many would fit into a healthy eating category. That's why we love American food so much.

Well, Casinocolin, whilst you seem to look down on Mcdonalds in your posting, not everyone agrees with your generalised comment about unhealthy food and your apparent glee at the removal of a restaraunt which provided good cooked food at a good price to many thousands who will not, I would say, want italian chicken which normally tastes horrible, covered with sickly cheese and probably as unhealthy but more expensive.
Macdonalds in moderation is a good choice for people with children.
This yet again, is Disney not listening to what their patrons want, (alongside the removal of Pleasure island clubs, increasing car parking charges, removing non disney choice stores, etc etc) rather pressure groups with an issue.
A sad day (Yet again) at Disney.

I agree that it's unfair to single out McDonald's for being unhealthy. There are SO many unhealthy choices at WDW! Actually, I think it would be pretty difficult to eat 100% healthily there, not least because of the vast array of tempting offerings. Poor McDonald's is such a scapegoat. I find it amusing when people think Subway is healthy: unless you choose the plainest sandwich in the world, it's NOT healthy!! :rotfl:

I think its a shame its closing.
we always used to eat there a couple of times on our trip.
it was a great cheap meal for downtown.
Its sad when people say McDonalds is so unhealthy, theyve changed their menu a lot.
I think a lot of families who go there for a cheap meal will rely on snacks a lot more.

I totally agree about Subway.

Do you know if they have been replaced by anything else, or are they just minus a few snack spots at the mo?

Frontierland Fries has been replaced by the Golden Oak Outpost :)

I'm sad about the McDonalds, as it was home to the man we dubbed "The Greatest McDonald's Operative in North America", Bill, who gave us some nice freebies when we went in and explained I was getting married the next day!!
