McDonald's at DTD closing

Never heard of them up here in NC. Not a big deal to us, though. We generally stay on the other side and mostly eat at Earl of Sandwich. :thumbsup2

Earl's is great, but can get crowded around lunch time. I like a good marinated chicken. I gotta think this is going to be an improvement over MickeyD's. I can get a Big Mac anyplace, I don't need one at DTD.

There is a Pollo Campero on the way to/from work; but, I've never stopped there. They aren't open in the morning and it's another 45 minutes home from there. Maybe I'll take a field trip this weekend.

Here is a link to their menu. The "bowls" look yummy.

I expect the only folks to mourn the loss of McD's will be parents of finicky children who balk at anything but chicken McNuggets! To which I say, huzzah! "Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him." Proverbs 13:24

Actually, the "marriage" between Disney & McDonald's ended a few years ago. I could not understand why McD's at DTD didn't disappear sooner than this. If you recall...there was a McD's booth in Frontierland at the MK; one near Dinosaur at AK; and one as you enter World Showcase & took a right at Epcot. All those have been gone for about 2 years. I guess Disney was biding their time until they could fine a corporation that would agree to Disney's contracts and would serve the type of low cost fare that would attract people.

I, for one, am not sad to see McD's go from DTD. It had to be the filthiest McDonald's on the planet! I wonder how long the McD's near the All-Star resorts will continue to operate???

Comment on McD's fries at WDW:

I took a friend of mine on his first Disney trip a couple of years ago. One of our favorite jokes about WDW (of which we now have many!) was when he saw the McDonald's fries stands. He pointed them out 'hey, they have McDonald's fries at Disney?' to which I replied, 'yep, can't get them anywhere else!'

Don't know why that struck us as funny but we did that the whole time, every McD's fry stand or cart, 'can't get 'em anywhere else' and just crack up!

I called him a few weeks ago and mentioned the stands were going/gone, we will have to find something else amusing next time we go.

We both figured out, we're easily entertained.:thumbsup2

I will not miss MickeyD's at all. I also like Earl of Sandwich, but it will be nice to try something else.

Many years ago I was in Germany. I was in Heidelberg and had one of my troopies tagging along. I asked him where he wanted to eat. He looked around and spotted a McDonalds and pointed to it. Needless to say, I had lunch at McDonald's in Heidelberg that day.

Really like Earl's, but am I the only one who will miss McDonald's?? I actually like eating there (that's pretty obvious if you look at me). It didn't hurt that I got a 20% discount too.

I ate at McDonalds in Frankfurt when I was an exchange student. "Ich mochte einen Hamburger und eine kleine Portion Pommes Frittes bitte!" What a hoot!

Hinky innky doink, danky smaanky honk,,

oh nevermind, I cant speak German.

The McD booth by Frontierland was there and open when we were there over Thanksgiving....

It was a booth, but not McDonald's. It still had the same facade & sold snacks (fries) and drinks, but operated by Disney - not McD's. McD's pulled out of Frontierland not quite 2 years ago.

I was thinking the same thing. Moms of the picky are gonna have a COW!!!! Luckily, my kids LOVE Earl. It is REQUIRED that we eat there at least once every trip, twice if we can find the time.

But it sounds so perfectly continental when you say it that way.

Not so continental when you say it Frank. Almost dirty in fact. :scared1: Shame on you. [insert finger waggin smiley here]

Something tells me though that this Pollo Campero place is not gonna be a big hit. Just a feeling I have.:upsidedow

For those McD's fans out there, here is a real blast from the past. And sorry....this has absolutely nothing to do with the McDonald's at DTD, but I thought it was interesting.

You probably remember the MdDLT from the 80's, that sandwich with the two sided styrofoam container. Check out this commercial with Jason Alexander (George Costanza). It's about as 80's as it gets.
