Calling all Northern Californians:
I work for a non-profit oceanographic research institute called MBARI -- Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. We are loosely affiliated with the Monterey Bay Aquarium, in that both institutions were started by David Packard and are now headed by Julie Packard. We're not normally open to the public. Our charter is to further ocean science and technology.
But every year we do an Open House. It's great fun for the kids. There are crafts (build a jellyfish), the kids can build their own mini ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles), and there are educational opportunities for all.
This year's Open House is August 14. See http://www.mbari.org/about/openhouse.html
I was just mentioning this to another prominent DISer on the DLR boards, and thought that since we have a number of members from the Bay area, perhaps some of you other folks may be interested. If you come, wear your LGMH so I can spot you!
