Get this..............My dishwasher is one that was recalled. So, I called Maytag immediately to set up for service which was scheduled for today.

Well.......I did not know that I should have received the parts in the mail before the repairman came. When I called Maytag asking why we did not receive the parts yet they stated that they did not expect the demand the recall created and they were backlogged in getting the parts out. Hello!!! Do they not manufacture these things and are aware as to how many were sold???????? What ever!

So now I have to wait until I receive the parts and then call to set up for repair.

Does anyone know if my DH (a plumber) could install these parts?

I know I'm spoiled, but I can't be without a dishwasher anymore. I hate washing dishes!

Maytag repairman, that his putting in the parts would void any further warranty you have on your dishwasher, and would probably void any warranty on the new parts they have to put in!

At least yours was recalled. Mine developed a leack around the pump at 13 months of service, one month past warranty. Sears told me it'd be $350 to fix, I paid $325 new for it. Replaced it with a Whirlpool, no problems 4 years later. Good luck!

How old is your dishwasher? And how long is the warranty? You should check the consumer laws for your state. I live in Massachusetts and we have very good consumer laws (our 5% sales tax actually gets us something), one of which states that "any item sold in Massachusetts is supposed to do what it's intended to to with ease for a reasonable period of time" If you lived in Mass(I see you live in PA), and your dishwasher was purchased a reasonable amount of time ago (ie still within the mfg's warranty) they "can not limit your remedies" and you would be able to choose either a refund, replacement, or repair. If there's been a recall, then they are aware of the problem and that might make it easier for you to get a replacement unit instead of a repair. Check the laws in your area, if you have similar laws, stick to your guns. You may have to speak to a manager or supervisor but arm your self with the website to your state's laws concerning consumer protection. I've used this law twice; first to get a Britax car seat replaced after about 15 months (seat was rated from 5 lbs to 65 lbs so I used that just over was a reasonable amount of time) and my money refunded on a Sony Flat Screen monitor that stopped working after 2 years (it had a 3 year warranty)

You know that Whirlpool BOUGHT OUT Maytag, so they are really one and the same now, don't you?

Yeah, but this "new" dishwasher is now ~4 years old, so hopefully it was made before the buyout. Don't get me wrong, this is the first Maytag product I've had problems with. I bought the Maytag Drying Center after this dishwasher issue, have had no trouble out of it whatsoever. I think that the dishwasher may have just been a fluke. The dryer is the best home purchase I've made in a while. :)

The repairman was here this morning and fixed my dishwasher. He called first to make sure the parts had arrived. He had 7 calls today and the first one was sent the wrong parts. I guess that's a common problem. Thankfully, I had the correct parts. It took him exactly one hour to install the parts. The parts consist of the whole inside of the door, which includes lots of wiring. He also replaced the gasket. Even though your husband is a plumber, I would let them do it, in case you have any further troubles. BTW, there are no more Maytag repairmen! The guy that came out to my house was from Sears. Good luck!
