Mayo in instant potatoes?

Friends don't let friends do instant mashed potatoes.
Growing up that is all I knew. I didn't even know you could make mashed potatoes any other way. My mom said it was because my sister and I liked them better. Everything my mom made back then was from a box. I thought scratch cooking was so much harder. But NO it isn't.

I do have & use instant mashed potatoes. But make & prefer real mashed potatoes.

I don’t eat mayonnaise or instant mash potatoes. I think a combination of the two would be pretty bad. Maybe sour cream like the PP suggested...

Yes and I just found out warm milk makes them so much better. My mom used to mash them put milk and butter in that was it . Heat a bit of milk in the microwave done, what a difference,so creamy.

I used to do instant now find them to gummy.

I may or may not use warm half and half in mine. :) For the Christmas mashed....Heavy whipping cream all day long. LOL

I don't even peel the potatoes. I soak for a couple hours, cut in quarters or eighths - boil. Cream, butter, salt and pepper and mix away. The key is also to not over whip. Ugh.....I'm dying for my mashed potatoes now.

no instant potatoes, but in other mashed potatoes....sour cream is my go to

I grew up on instant potatoes - real potatoes were for at grandma's house or holidays. My mom is a hell of a cook, but time was short.

I still like them, but my kids revolt. So, I make only real. I make a huge batch at once and use them throughout the week. They aren't hard, by any means, but time is short...

Baked up 10 huge potatoes yesterday that will be used all week for various meals, AAMOF.

I like roasted potatoes, fries, etc. dipped in mayo, so I don't see why I wouldn't like mashed with it.

I'm Irish, instant potatoes are blasphemous.
However if I needed to doctor them up I'd probably use sour cream over mayo.

My dad's ex-wife would use mayo in real mashed potatoes. She said it made them creamier. I personally think sour cream would be a better ingredient since it's a common baked potato topping. I would never put mayo on a baked potato.

I like mayo on boiled potato chunks, it's sort of like a hot potato salad.

My grandmother always put milk and a raw egg into her mashed potatoes, and that's what my Mom did, too. We seemed to have survived the raw egg okay. She also used to give us a little bit of raw ground meat mixed with spices before shaping them into meatballs or meatloaf to 'test'. We did okay with that, too.

Only time I made instant was after my jaw surgery when I wanted something that wasn't yogurt or pudding and involved little to no cooking. For that they were a lifesaver but I'd use sour cream.

Hubs makes a hot potato salad that is half mayo, half sour cream, lots of dill, lemon juice, and lemon zest in the sauce.

Have you ever mixed mayo into instant mashed potatoes?

Have you OP? Never heard of that combination especially with instant potatoes which to be honest with you I haven't had since my college days.
