Maya Grill (Usually Don't Here Much About This Place)

On my Dec. 2003 trip I went to Coronado Springs to use the Business Center. Which is probably the only reason I would go there unless I was staying there or having a meal. When waking around the resort I noticed the Maya Grill. I knew of it, but always over look it. The menu looked promising, considering it was a sit-down and the prices were pretty good. Hows the food, service, etc... Thanks

Maya Grill was one of our favorite restuarants at WDW, until a bad experience in Feb 2003. Historically, the restaurant had served a southwestern/central american food oriented menu (not typical "Mexican" fare) which was interesting and very good. When we went back in Feb 2003, the menu had changed to more standard fare (non-ethnic; ribs, chicken, steaks, etc.) and was not good (food was not interesting and quality was bad). However, we were told at that time that the menu was changing back to the original format, so that is a plus sign.

All that being said, the restaurant has great maragaritas (which they serve in individualized silver cocktail shakers, which are cool) and the old/new menu (if they have changed back) was great.

The place never got very crowded when we went (on several trips, I don't think I ever saw it more than half full). As a result, it was a relatively quiet place and the service was quite good.

We skipped it for our Feb 2004 trip, but if the menu has changed back to the original format, I would definitely recommend Maya Grill.

I ate there for dinner in August of 2003 and the food was good and servings were more than enough. I was alone, and service is usually bad what you're at a table by yourself. It was no different there.

In May of 03 I was there with friends and the breakfast buffet was fabulous!

We also had the breakfast buffet at the Maya Grill. It was excellent!! We had gone to the Pepper Market (food court @ CS ) the morning before and found we spent more $$ there for less food!! We never tried the Maya for dinner because we went to the parks in the morning and stayed till closing, but the menu looked good.

Our first visit to the Maya Grill was spectacular - the menu included many southwestern foods and was different and very, very good. However, our next visit was very disappointing since the menu had changed to ordinary chicken, steaks, etc. I asked the server what had happened, and her explanation was that the original menu had proven to be too "weird" for family dining and they decided to try more ordinary food to cater to families. My reply was that we were very disappointed and that if I wanted "ordinary" food I could go to a food court, etc., but that we would have preferred the different cuisine. I checked the menu on another link and it seemes to still be the "safer" selections so we plan to stay away from this restaurant.

If you want to try something more distinctive, go to the California Grill - great food, great wine, great ambiance, and you can see the fireworks from the table or the observation deck if you time your PS right!!!!!

As several others have said, Maya used to be a nice spot when they had the original menu. But since very few people dined there (maybe due in part because Coronado is a bit off the beaten path) the menu changed to a "steakhouse-like" affair.
Not sure if it increased business, but it stopped me from going!!
Should add that their breakfast buffet is nice---
