I just read a weather report that said that during our trip (the first week of May) there is a chance of thunderstorms. Can anyone tell me how long/intense thunder storms are this time of year, and how it will impact our visit to the parks? Do attractions typically close?

Thanks!

I went the first week of May last year and we were lucky and only had one thunderstorm. It started about 6pm, it POURED for about 15 minutes, then normal rain for about 10 minutues and it was over. I was in Adventureland and they did close the Flying Carpets, but they opened right back up after the downpour. Usually pop up thunderstorms in early May are quick and out.

It was really funny too because even though it POURED over the Magic Kingdom, I talked to a couple people later who were at Animal Kingdom and they only got a few drops of rain, they didn't even get wet!

May thunderstorms in Florida are rare (in fact most of us are in drought conditions and would welcome some rain), very sporadic, and fast moving. As the other post said it can be raining in one park and not in another. In my experience the outdoor rides will shut if there is thunder/lightning. If you do experience one, just find an indoor ride or a gift shop to fill your time, it should pass very quickly.

Have fun! :)

I check www.wftv.com for the 5-day forecast. It's a local station and I would assume the weather forecasts are more accurate than a site like weather.com. We're leaving Saturday and right now it looks like the weekend weather is going to be great. :thumbsup2
