Ok so we’re coming for a week in May and I’m thinking i have a decent strategy. I usually do DL yearly but we’ve always wanted to DW so here we come.
We’re flying in on a Sunday and doing a park on Monday and Tuesday, beach time on Wednesday and finishing the parks Thursday and Friday

getting a rental and an Airbnb for the week

thoughts?

If you’re a Disneyland regular, the number one piece of advice I can give you is to familiarize yourself with the lay of the land, because getting around WDW property is a much more involved thing than out west. Everything is much more spread out so if you plan on doing any park hopping make sure you understand that it’s not as quick as going between DL and DCA. That’s the main thing I see DL people struggling with when WDW planning.

There will be a lot more travel than at DL. Even between the parks is a large distance. A lot will be familiar but different too. For instance, Star Tours is in Hollywood Studios, not Tomorrowland. I feel like I can get everything done at DL in a shorter amount of time than at WDW. I love both places- Enjoy!

WDW is 40 square miles. It’s a very different experience than DL. Did you make park reservations? If not do that right away. Dining reservations can be booked 60 days in advance. I’d do that too as soon as you are able. With limited dining it might be challenging to book where you want to eat.

May is a great time! We are going May 4th - 14th. Make sure you enjoy the Spring & Garden Festival at Epcot. It is beautiful. I have been to Disney World over 30 times in my life (and I am just 35, lol). The biggest tip from me is to research and know what you really want to do before going, because there will be many things you will not be able to do.

My wife and I knocked out Disneyland and California Adventure in about 3 days while doing many attractions multiple times. Disney World is a different ballgame. Having just one park per day will mean forgoing many things. AJ over at Disney's Food Blog is very helpful (she discusses much more than food and her videos are great). No matter what, you will have a great time!

Quick question..maybe a dumb one. Are all the rides open? I see with DL reopening it says “no indoor rides” at this time? DW running as normal as they can?

Yep, everything is opened as usual! The only things that are not available are parades, live shows, and fireworks (and some snack places and restaurants).

Ok cool. Looks like I’m booking the last week of May. Sucks I wanted to book in mid May. Crazy how the prices increase in two weeks lol

Just curious - which beach for your beach day? We may have an extra day ourselves.

One more question. I see it’s about 70.00 cheaper through getaway today for the tickets for the week. Even if it’s small, it’s still saving a bit. Anyone buy just the tickets through them? I figured I’d check them out and buy today and I’m booked and done

They're an authorized reseller so the tickets are legit, but I think get away today has better discounts for disneyland whereas undercover tourist usually runs better specials for Disney World. Just make sure you consider all fees/taxes when comparing prices to make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

We like the gulf coast beaches (between Clearwater and St. Petes) for the calmer water and sunsets, but that's a close to 2 hour drive. If you are just doing a day trip, would head over to the atlantic side and do cocoa beach. Still an hour, which is more than I'd want to drive on vaycay, but definitely shorter.

I love using this site to find the cheapest tickets. I've never had a problem with any of the authorized resellers.

Ok. I’m thinking we can finish all the parks but magic kingdom in a day so I may look at getting a hopper for that day. We generally do rides and food and skip shows (they are closed anyhow)

do I sound crazy? Not trying to overthink but most of the MK rides are identical to DL

Hoppers are for all days. You cant just do one day of hoppers on a multi day ticket.

You will not finish any park in one day if you have never been. there is just so much to see and do! Buy you will get a good taste of it all. I love hoppers , but I probably wouldn't do them for your first trip when you only have four days.

I find it hard to believe we can’t hit most of the rides in AK, DHS or Epcot. We’re not too worried about MK as it’s close to DL and we’ve there many many times.

im not worried if I miss out or ROTR. I will be back at DL at some point

If you want a beach day, consider Discovery Cove. This can be as pricey as Disney but is an all-inclusive with breakfast, lunch, snacks, drinks and wet suits/snorkel gear. Great snorkeling with the fish and rays and nice beach areas. A quick dolphin encounter is included but you can also purchase extras. Can be hard to book since they have limited space and are currently limiting further (but having fewer people is great there). Located about 5 miles NE from Disney Springs.

I 'm not sure if this is your first time to DW or not, but if so my initial thought would be to scrap the beach day and have another park day. MK especially can be a solid 2 day park. I would work on one afternoon 1-2pm TS meal each day as this gives you a break from the crowds during the height of the crowds. The only exception would be at Epcot - they will have their flower and garden festival going on and there are so many tasty food booths.
