Do we have a host for this week?
I'm doing the following week. Maybe Piglet or Shanny could do it since Oneanne is on vacation.

I began standardized assessments today. It's so inappropriate for kindergarten. I try not to make it obvious that it's a timed test, but they have figured it out, and they panic. The stress causes many of them to freeze up, and I don't think these tests accurately measure their knowledge. :sad2::sad1::sad:

I can't wait until the assessments are over.

I have the last week but if we don’t have someone for this week I can switch. I’ll come up with a topic for tomorrow.
Is anyone else able to take the last week of the month in that case?

This weekend was the go-live of a major project at work so I spent a ridiculous amount of time in front of my computer Saturday. Fortunately we got our work finished Saturday evening and although I got stuck at the office later than planned I did not have to work on Mother’s Day.
The plan was to get stuff done around the house and then grab dinner with the five of us and my MIL. DD started fully melting down about an hour and a half before we were going to leave. Although she is neurodivergent melting down is not something she does…like legit 3 times in her 6 years of existence, there is virtually nothing that cannot be solved with a glass of water and some bubbles. Anywho fast forward to about 3 hours later she is still freakin out and now grabbing at her ears. She finally told us she had an owie so off to the walk in DH and MIL went while I got the boys some pizza. Sure enough ear infection poor babe. Some Tylenol, advil and a dose of meds later and she was able to settle down enough to sleep.
Hopefully Father’s Day will be a bit less eventful 🤞🙏

Topic Tuesday
When did you start doing more for yourself?

DSs have been taking a bit more responsibility in the morning, specifically around their breakfast prep. 10 is making his (and sometimes DD’s) toast and 12 made his granola bars last night as he likes homemade.
When did you start taking more responsibility? Were you older? Younger? And what was your first task outside of childhood “chores?”

Oh, interesting question. My “more” was to become the baker in the family. That happened when we were living in Seattle so 3rd grade or so? I would bake cakes, cookies and my specialty was coffee cake made from a Bisquck recipe.

The trip is going well, the first two days have been a challenge weather wise tho. Sunday was super hot and humid and yesterday was heavy rain in the first part of the day. I went to MK for the early half hour and left about 10am totally soaked. The evening was better and I spent it strolling around WS in EPCOT. The temps are to be lower today but humidity is still super high so not much effort is going into makeup or hair styling. I’m headed over to Studios and have a fancy lunch at Brown Derby.

I used to watch my little brother for about an hour after school until my parents got home from work - starting in maybe 5th grade? (Mind you, my parents only worked about 4 blocks from my house, so they could get home quickly in an emergency.) I also remember there were certain dinners that I knew how to start - probably from junior high for that. Breakfast (bagels & cream cheese, that sort of thing) I could do earlier. - I think your boys are right on track, and good for you raising them to know that not all kitchen chores are for girls!!

I can do the last week. DD will be in the hospital the 28th and 29th. She is having a colonoscopy and endoscopy but since she has a clotting issue she needs to stay the night and get platelets and to watch to make sure bleeding stays under control. We will get to do this again in August when she gets her wisdom teeth out. I should still be able to get on both days though.

DD still does this at 17. She has extra time on tests for this (she has a 504 plan). She hates having the extra time because she still gets done by the normal and has to sit and wait but she knows not having that extra time she would just pay attention to the time and panic.
When did you start doing more for yourself?

I know I was doing my own laundry by 3/4th grade (mom got tired of us giving her clean clothes to wash because we didn't put them away). From about that same time my sister and I switched weeks cleaning the kitchen after dinner and then on Saturday we needed to wash the floor. If it wasn't our week then we had to clean the bathroom on Saturday. I was also babysitting other people kids (started with a family of 5 with one just slightly younger then me down to an infant and the 7 year old was deaf and no one learned sign language to communicate with her) by the time I was in 5th grade (I can't imagine my kids babysitting at this age). I did cook a lot but that started out by choice. I love to cook and always wanted to help my mom. I started cooking dinner on my own by the time I was 11 or 12. Especially nights my mom had school (she went to college when I was about 9 to be a teacher) so I helped with dinner on nights she had class.

My siblings were in high school when I was born, and they were both married and out of the house by the time I was 7 years old. Like my DD and myself, I was very close with my Mom, and we did everything together. I was around adults a lot of the time, and I fit into every social situation. I remember being elementary school age polishing the furniture with lemon Pledge and helping to clean the house. By 10, my Mom returned to full-time work and would get home every night at 5:10PM. It was my job to get my homework done and cook dinner every night. Mommy would leave the written directions on the kitchen counter. I was trusted to use every kitchen appliance except for the pressure cooker which to this day is something I have never used. I was also expected to rake leaves and shovel snow with my Dad. I even helped paint the first floor of the house. Basically whatever was going on around the house or outside of the house whether it was chores or social situations, I was involved with everything.

Side Note: I remember being 5 years old graduating from kindergarten, and at the same time, my sister was graduating college. She was engaged to be married, and I had my kindergarten boyfriend, John. I was so mad when I found out that I wasn't allowed to get married, and I still had 16+ years of school to go!!!

Woohoo… the weather is greatly improved with temps in the high 70’s and lower humidity. Had a lovely day in Studios yesterday, no LLMP so did all the shows. Caught the best version of Frozen Singalong in the morning, all the actors were really good. Today it is back to EPCOT. I’m making a later start and hope to hang in until the nighttime fireworks.

Busy the last couple of days watching honorary niece & nephew after school. Home this morning, then a class and kitty's vet appointment this afternoon. Tomorrow is our anniversary - we have plans to do some shopping together and then go out to eat.

It’s been a crazy week with work and a situation between DS12 and one of his friends. Kids being kids horsing around which resulted in a minor injury but combine that with a tightly wound mom and it’s a thing. Physically tired and noticing anxiety creeping in. Ugh so not a fan.

The trip is winding down. When all is said and done it will have been a good one but there’s also been some struggle in each day, mostly with the heat. I don’t remember ever being so sweaty and melty before. This morning I gave myself a little pep talk… for an overweight almost 70 year old lady I’ve done very well.

I’m at Studios for a bit this morning then I’ll head over to EPCOT for lunch. I’m going to try and make it back to Studios this evening for Fantasmic which I’ve only seen once before. Coming into the park just for that one thing will also be a new experience.

We've never gone when it wasn't HOT. Most of our trips have been in the summer, but when we went at Christmas, the high was 87, and in February, it was also in the 80's. (Disneyland in April is surprisingly only in the low 70's). So, we have a routine to only do parks in the morning...rope drop, and then we leave after lunch to enjoy the pool or nap in the A/C. Not being in the parks midday makes it easier to handle the high heat and humidity. We used to go back in the evenings, but I now find the crowds too much to bear so we will eat at Signature restaurants and watch fireworks from California Grill, a fireworks cruise, or our deluxe resort. I'm becoming less and less of a parks person which might be why we haven't been since 2018, that and the cost. Our next trip will be after I have Grandchildren.

I found Disneyland to be a much better experience which you might want to consider especially since it wouldn't be as long a trip for you to get there. If you haven't been, I highly recommend it. I truly felt Walt Disney's presence everywhere. It was very charming, and I enjoyed going on rides that aren't in WDW. We loved staying in the Disneyland Hotel. Everything was walking distance, close and convenient. There was no need for transportation. The monorail was fun to ride, but it wasn't necessary to get around easily.
