We are trying to decide when to move our trip to. I’d love to hear if you think May or September (2021) is a better month to visit and why?

May is much better weather wise. Also, no party nights at MK make planning much easier in May. If you go early in May, crowds will be about the same, but Sept probably has less crowds. Sept may have more/better discounts.
May will have Flower and Garden early in the month. Sept has Food & Wine. I think the clientele for F&G is a little more genteel than the one for F&W.

I would go in May over Sept. Weather is my biggest deciding factor. May will be warm/hot, but Sept is HUMID and hot and you always have the possibility of a hurricane messing with your plans in Sept.

Been there at both times. The weather is better in May. Not as humid as September and no hurricane risk. It’s Flower & Garden vs Food & Wine at Epcot. In September you will have the Halloween decorations out at MK and the Not So Scary Parties. So if you’re into Halloween, I would vote September. If not, then May.

Another vote for May, we were there two years ago and the weather was beautiful and the crowds were very manageable. We had a trip planned for the 1st week of May this year, that we all know got canceled, real shame too. We had a Moonlight Magic reservation, we were going to be in Star War Land on May 4th, dinner in Mexico on Cinco de Mayo, were excited for some of the EPCOT concerts, great FP's & ADR's, etc.

Both can be very hot.
It really depends what you want to do. If Food & Wine or MNSSHP interests you, then September. If not, then I would do May. It might be even less crowded. Mainly, you won't have to work around the party nights at MK.

May 2018 was lovely - we went the first half of the month. Had a few showers but overall really nice. We loved the F&G displays. I'm not interested in seeing the Halloween decor and going to parties so for me, September would be more difficult to work out my schedule. Plus...hurricane season.

Depends on your goals: The weather? - May. F&W? - September. Headed to MNSSNP? - Sept. Love flowers? - May. Okay risking a hurricane? - Sept. Want longer time for maybe a COVID-10 vaccine? - Sept.

Given our unpredictable world - pick the events at Disney you want to attend and go for that time. And who knows what will be the same, or not.

Our May trip was amazing, parks weren’t terribly busy and the weather was great! I have not been in September but I have been in mid October and it was still very hot and miserably humid!

A year ago, the only downside to May was an incredible number of class trips. I've never seen so many 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 12th grade "graduation" groups. Some were well behaved, some not so much. They were all wearing matcing t-shirts that said "x" graduation party. Saw this at WDW and Universal equally. Overall, the crowds were less. No idea how next year will be.

We almost always go the last week of MY/the 1st week in June so my vote is May

We went in early May last year and some of the days were REALLY hot/crowded, so it just depends. Haven't been in Sept in a number of years so no current experience there. Fall USED to be a better time with cooler weather and more kids back in school, but lately it seems like Disney is crowded year-round.

Free dining has been offered in September many times but rarely in May, if you are interested in free dining.

I should have been there the first week of May this year too. I'm am praying for May 2021!!

I’d say may is generally better but I’d go with the following September just to get as far from all this virus stuff as possible. Less of a chance of it somehow effecting your trip the farther out you go

I like May better, especially early May. September is super hot and super humid.

We have been in late May many times and have been lucky to experience sunny weather and very little precipitation . We avoid Sept due to hurricane season.

I've done both in recent years: I'd do May - hot but not as muggy as September. Had some rain but not as much as September and when it did rain, it wasn't for as long. Crowds were a bit higher ( we were there for 8 nights starting May 10th ) than in September but 2021 is anyone's guess right now with the impending 50th celebration.

Normally I'd say May

But I'd suggest Sept just because of the world we're in right now. The more time you give, the better the chance Disney will have some form of normalcy. It could end up nothing will change from May 21-Sept 21, but never know.

Maybe book for May, but be ready to backup to Sept if there are some things that are important to you that Disney hasn't reimplented yet (meet and greets, parades, fireworks, etc)
