We are on the way back from our second family Disney trip and have decided DVC is for us. We have our choices narrowed down to AKL or CCV. we are buying resale. I have researched availability at these two resorts; however, I can’t find the answer to my specific question. We traditionally travel late May or in June. What is the probability of being able to book a one or two bedroom at the seven month window for these resorts? Does anyone have any real life experience with this time frame and the 7 month window? Thanks in advance.

In my opinion CCV resale prices are way too high right now. I own direct and was considering adding on some resale. On one site they are asking $175 for 75 points. There is no way I would pay that.

AKL resale prices are far more reasonable.

In May at AKV you will have your choice of rooms at 7 months. AKV club level is a unicorn at 7 months and even at 11 months, AKV value very very difficult but in May a 1BR may be possible. Every other room will be open.

Patterns for CCV are still developing since it's not sold out yet, but anything that is not a cabin is difficult at 7 months. Studios may be difficult even at 11 months and it may be the only resort who will develop problems even for 1BR at 7 months most of the year.

For Feb of 2020 1 beds and 2 beds are mostly open at CCV except for the princess marathon. I believe late January was similar until the 7 month window really passed over the dates.

During the busy season (November through December) no rooms (not really cabins) had much availability at 7 months for CCV.

I’m confused. Are you intending to buy someplace else and then switch at 7 months? If AKV is where you really want to be, why not buy there? The reason I’m asking is bc sometimes people think it would be smarter to buy at Vero or HH due to low points cost. The problem with that is the maintenance fees.

I am guess the OP was incorrectly told that resale can't book until 7 months. Resale can book at 11 months at their home resort like everyone else.

No, we have narrowed the place we really would like to be to these two. If it’s not difficult to get into one or the other at seven months assuming a 2-bedroom, then I would rather go with cheaper upfront point costs as the maintenance fee is a 1 cent difference between the two.

I will say CCV is probably the most likely you would need for home priority period (though for February which is somewhat similar perhaps more difficult is open at CCV for 2 beds aside from Princess Marathon), unless you really want to every try for Value or Club units or units at Jambo, during some times of the year. I will say if you really want to stay in Jambo just be aware they are all lock-offs and only have 2 bathrooms, where as Kidani has 3 bathrooms for a 2 bedroom and dedicated units. Overall you will find AKV more available than CCV at 7 months, which given the size of resort differences is expected.

In terms of availability Studios book first, followed by 2 beds, and finally 1 beds.

If you want a good deal and a great home resort with a contract that doesn't expire in 2042, its Animal Kingdom Villas hands down.

Awesome information, thank you and everyone. I have been reading and researching for a while and I will “blame” (tongue in cheek) the DVC podcast for tipping me and my wife over the edge and on this path. That being said we are definitely looking toward points for savannah views so we have more flexibility with booking. It seems studios are difficult,1 bedrooms less so and 2bedrooms are comparable to 1s for the most part. Moreover it seems trying to just get value will make life more difficult. It’s good to hear February is close to May in terms of booking availability so hopefully it won’t be a huge problem. It may be our week long stay that may be a bigger issue (admittedly less so) but we will cross that bridge when we get there.

You do understand that as an owner at AKV (whether resale or direct) you can book at 11 months out, right? The only time 7 months matters is if you want to book at a resort other than your home resort. We own at AKV and love it. To us, it is never punishment to stay there. We book as soon as we know we want to go and then sometimes switch to another resort at 7 months.

Based on their post (a couple above) they are deciding which resort they want the 11 month advantage at but would prefer to have some opportunities to stay at the other occasionally at 7 months.

Precisely

I'd say strictly from a booking standpoint to buy at CCV if you want the 11 month advantage as it would be easier to switch to AKV at 7 months than the other way around (we actually had this same dilemma as well and we chose CCV for this reason). We book primarily 2 bedrooms.

If you're trying to save on cost...then AKV is the clear winner. Not sure what the ROFR numbers look like, but I have been seeing a decent amount of AKV being taken on that thread, where as CCV is never taken (might be able to lowball a little bit there as it still isn't sold out - so Disney might not be interested in buying back points already on a resort they still have their own points to sell), but you'll still end up paying anywhere from $35-$50 more a point for CCV than AKV.
