DS16 has Asperger's Syndrome and is very ADD. He does great in his English/History classes (AP and pre-AP) but isn't so good in math and science. He was in regular Chemistry, getting 99s on his report card. We investigated bumping him up to pre-AP for the second semester. Everyone advised against it. I eventually came down against it because in Janaury, DS was in the musical and had a big paper due and I knew he wouldn't have extra time to catch up in pre-AP Chemistry. DH was in favor of it and had him transferred.

So now DS is getting a 63...yes, failing. He has to bring his grade up quickly so he can do choir competitions. DH is with the teacher right now. I feel so bad for DS because none of this was his idea.

Please pray for good Chemistry vibes, okay? (And that we can find a tutor quickly-all the recommended ones are booked.) I feel like such a terrible parent!

Y'all are hard! 28 people have read this post, and not a single :grouphug:

poor kid....maybe this will be a lesson for dad.

My oldest wanted very badly to be in the IB program...we let her choose that path...we are now letting her unchoose that path.

I am sorry Chemistry is so rough for him.

:grouphug: My dd, without any learning disabilities, was getting an A in all of her courses and failing AP physics. Fortunately, her AP teacher saw her effort and gave her a passing grade.

Hope your teach will do the same.

Bummer! Hope this works out all right for him!!

I hope it works out well for him!

Sending {{hugs}} and prayers from MD that everything works out for your DS. :wizard:

AWWWW PD for your DS....I know what hes going through its all so crazy in HS and it just seems that making the right choice for classes isnt alway the right choice. Im sure it will all turn out fine and your DS will get right back where he needs to be!!:goodvibes

Problem is that he's one of the strongest 1st tenors in the choir and their big competition is in about 10 days. If he can't sing ("no pass no play"), the choir teacher will be so ticked at him.

The next chem test is Monday. He went to the teacher for tutoring this afternoon. He goes back tomorrow morning, tomorrow afternoon and Monday morning....sort of like being in chemestry ICU. DH said the teacher is very sweet. However, DH was forced to talk to her (n front of DS) about DS's Asperger's Syndrome, because she wasn't making sense of some of his behaviors.

Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts.

You betcha. Just said a prayer for your son. And for you (you are NOT a bad parent -- we're all flying by the seat of our pants and hoping we do right by our kids....anyone who tells you differently is lying).

Keep us updated on his progress.

DS is such a cutie. We were out to dinner last night to celebrate my birthday and DS said, "Okay. Let's get this out of the way. What are my consequences going to be?" I said no more Gameboy or Guitar Hero until he brings his Chem grade up. When we got home, he handed me his Gameboy and the memory card from Guitar Hero to keep.

His problem (and his teacher agrees) is the "gaps" between what the regular class learned last semester and what the accelerated class learned. Once the missing pieces are explained, he gets it. He just has to understand to speak up the minute he identifies a gap.

Awww, missypie, I just saw this thread.

Sounds like your DS is trying his best. Is the teacher willing to work him to help bring up his grade? It's not his fault there is a gap between the two classes.

Sending lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: and good vibes his way. And, of course, a  for you. No more talk of this bad parenting crap! ;)

I just saw it as well, lots of hugs    He sounds like a GREAT young man!

If I remember correctly, aren't your children involved in a large number of extra curricular activities? If choir (or anything else) is having such a dramatic impact on his grades, you might want to look at changing priorities..

Extra activities are good - but it seems that his schooling should come first..

Well, after re-taking a pop quiz (for reduced credit), redoing homework (for reduced credit) and getting an 82 on his test on Monday, he now has a 74 average, which is what will be on his report card. Thanks for the prayers and PD, everyone!
