We just found out that my 85 y/o DMIL has liver cancer. She also has Althizmers. She is going be kept comfortable for whatever time she has left. The doc will not say how long she has. He said it may be a slow growing cancer or it may be agressive. He just doesn't know. We feel terrible because she has had a rough few years because of Althizmers, etc. I just don't know if we can still go on our vacation 12/30-1/12 to WDW. I have the airline tix bought for DH, DD and myself and all arrangements made. I don't know if I should wait and see or make changes now? This is my first post on the community board but I did not know where to post this? I could really use some words of wisdom if anyone is familar with liver cancer. The doc did say there are 2 small spots on her liver and she is slightly jaundace with bile backup (whatever that means) She is still eating and has no pain and does not need pain meds yet. We are praying she remains comfortable. Thanks for any info!

Muffy first of all welcome to the CB :) As for the rest of what you said, I personally would wait and see when it comes to canceling your trip. I think it is just too early for that especially since they don't know much about how agressive or not the cancer is. I am sorry to hear about your DMIL though. I do hope she remains comfortable and pain free for as long as she lives. I wish I had some words of wisdom when it comes to liver cancer, but I don't. {{hugs}} to you all and hang in there.

Good thoughts and prayers for you and your MIL.

Good morning, and welcome to the cb. I'm sorry about your mil, but like the other's said, it's too soon to cancel anything. I would wait until I found out more of what you're dealing with.

I don't know anything about liver cancer, all I know is that with cancer you never really know what it's going to do.

{{hugs}}

Sorry about your MIL. I would check on the tickets and see what options you have with'em. Then go from there.

I wish your first post on the CB could have been a more joyous one, Muffy, but, like family, we are here for all reasons, sometimes sad and difficult ones. But still, welcome.

As far as your question, I too, say it way to early to have to make any decisions on your trip/tickets/etc. Just hold on to see how things unfold over the next 3 months.

For your MIL, my prayers are with her. Sounds like she has had a tough go of it of late, God be with and bless her. My prayers are with you all.

Hi Muffy & Welcome to the CB.....
I'm sorry to hear about your MIL.:( I don't know anyting about liver cancer so I have no advice for you....I just wanted to send {{{hugs}}} & prayers to you.

Hi Muffy, Sorry to hear about your MIL. I too would hold off on cancelling the trip. It may be a much needed break for your family. Best wishes to you and your family, hope to see you on the CB more.

I, too, would take a wait and see position. While a friend of Mom's was reasonably heathly (she went with us to WDW in January and Vegas in April) in July she was diagnosed with liver, brain, pancreas, and lung tumors. It was 6 weeks from the day she was diagnosed until the day she passed away, before that she had no symptoms, and throughout the ordeal had very little pain. With liver cancer, depending of course on the specific kind, things can change very quickly. Prayers are with you.

You have received some excellent advice. I too opt for the wait and see. I am sorry to hear her illness and am sending prayers and warm thoughts.

Welcome to the CB! HUGS to you, Ellen/Boots
