she will be staying overnight at the hospital. what my main concern is will the pressure on the plain be too much for her ears? how about sherbert instead of ice cream?

Check with the discharge nurse. The pressure in the plane should not be a problem. Just follow normal routine to help her ears adjust (pop). Give her something to drink, gum to chew or something to eat. In my DS case we give him 1/2 dose of decongestant prior to boarding.

As far as the sherbert - I was told clear liquids only for first two days. Nothing red or purple, in case your child vomits so they can tell if it is fresh blood. There may be some blood in the vomit that is dark red and looks like coffee grinds - that is ok. My dr. told me that DS could have lemon water ice, green/yellow jello, chicken broth etc. I wish they would have kept my son overnight.

just a quick update,, dr called today and moved her operation to june 22nd!! so now she will have 3 weeks to recover before we go... i will check back after the operation to let you all know how it went.

When my son was 3 he had the same surgery and had to be on bed rest for a week-10 days. I just would hate to see you have to cancel very last minute. Wishing you a safe, fun trip. And a quick recovery for your child.

As stated by a previous poster, clear liquids (no red) are best. I'm sure the doctor/nurses will give you good instructions. Sherbet is not considered a clear liquid. Popsicles and fruit ice are though.
