Woke up on bank holiday Monday, went downstairs to make some tea, sitting waiting for the kettle to boil I realised my foot was so itchy it was painful. A little later in the day and my foot was throbbing. I put some cream on it and took an antihistamine but the itching was driving me crazy. Got up on the Tuesday, all ready for work but the minute I tried to put my shoes on I knew I had problems, there was just no way I could get any shoes on as my foot had swollen up so bad. So, off to the doctors I hobbled. After taking all of 2 seconds to look at my foot he declared I had an infection. Antibiotics were prescribed. I took the pills till Thursday morning by which time I could stand it no longer, my foot, the right one, was very swollen and very red and the itching was so bad I wanted to chop the damn thing off but worse still I realised that whatever it was it was spreading and was now affecting my left foot
So off to the doctors again. Another 2 second glance at my feet and no matter how hard I pushed I could get no answer as to what was wrong other than you have an infection
More antibiotics prescribed.
Saturday morning I woke up and hobbled downstairs, I was in so much pain I actually sat at the kitchen table and cried like a big baby
My right foot was actually showing a slight improvement but my left foot was swollen like a balloon and I had two huge pus filled blisters between my toes, on top of this I had now developed a rash all over my body. One of my neighbours is a nurse so I gave her a call and asked her to come have a look. She told me to stop taking the antibiotics and to get straight up to the hospital.
Sadly I was kept in. I had a severe case of cellulitis, not to be confused with the usual female complaint of cellulite
I was fed antibiotics via IV drip. I had been hoping I would be discharged from hospital on the Monday but unfortunately the infection was spreading up my leg so they kept me in and upped the dose of drugs
I was eventually discharged on the Thursday. My right foot was back to normal but my left foot was still swollen, red and sore but even so it was much better than it had been. After resting it a few more days at home I can now manage to walk again well actually more of a hobble than a walk but at least I have some mobility and even managed to get out of the house yesterday, the first time for over two weeks
Going back to work next week although Ill only be there for the week then Im off on holiday, feel a bit guilty about that but as DH keeps saying it cant be helped. Dont think Ive ever looked forward to going to work quite so much before amazing what being housebound and hospitalised can make you miss
Im off now to look through all the posts Ive missed and I see there are loads of new trip reports posted so these are going to keep me going for the rest of the day
Have a good weekend everyone
