We went to WDW in May of 2004- and now are looking at going Late August. I am not a crowds person and like to go when they are light. I have read that crowds thin in late August. but, how do they compare to May? I loved going in May. The heat isn't a problem the hotter the better. So crowds are the only issue. Please advise-

Thanks

We went in late May in 2002 and late August in 2005. The crowds were considerably thinner our most recent trip. But don't stay until or past Labor Day.

Thanks- I am pleasantly shocked. All the travel books say just the opposite would be true, I will keep looking to book. Anyone else please weigh in.

I agree with the above poster about LATE May vs late August.

You didn't say when in May you are looking at, but crowds in EARLY May are much lighter than late August.

May is a transition month at WDW...crowds are very light early but get bigger as the month goes on. Memorial Day weekend kicks off the busy summer season whilch lasts until....late August!

Oh that makes a difference, we were there approx. May 10th to the 20th. and crowds were okay. We couldn't walk onto rides, but the wait times were never more then about 30 min. even for the most popular rides. The fantasmic statium was filled so we had to go an hour or so early, same with the show at epcot (whose name escapes me right now) we staked our place, took turns ordering dinner and ate while we waited. Seems like for quite a while now.

Please help me compare this time frame with Aug. 13-22.

Thanks

Last two weeks in August are light. Avoid Labor Day weekend. Kids are heading back to school last two weeks. There is a definite drop in crowd levels. The weekends may be more busy than weekdays.

That's about what it is like in late August. By Monday August 14th most Florida schools (and many other schools in the country) have reopened.

have they changed the school schedule in the last few years? all the guide books say crowds don't thin until after Labor Day. I am getting excited, this will be so much fun.

Thanks for the info, keep it coming please, I need encouragement

We have been there several times duuring the last two weeks in AUg. The crowds are not too bad but it is still hot and you do run the risk of hurricanes. I like it because the crowds are not too bad.
