I would like to take my son who will 12 months old at the time tent camping at Disney World. Do you think it would be to hot for him? Do you think we would be safe camping alone?

I cant really understand why you would you put yourself through that - I would wait until the baby is a bit older - but if you just have to go - as far as being safe - as long as you dont put a sign at the end of the campsight saying "single woman here alone with 12 month old baby" - how would anyone know? You would be as safe as anyone else I believe.

To answer the question: Yes I think you would be safe.

But I agree with the above poster, why put yourself through that? book a room at a value like All Star Sports, etc.

I see nothing wrong with taking a 12 mos old to Disney World, but I just think you are adding additional work for yourself by wanting to tent.

With that said, the year my husband left me with three children under the age of four - I took them for a weekend camping trip to a local state park. Why? Because I could! He never wanted to camp with me - and now I could take them. So I guess my reasoning was a little hard headed. I remember once it got dark and the noises of the night got louder, they got scared. Each one wanted to sleep beside me. That's o.k. - but I only have two sides So the youngest slept on top of me!

You could rent a pop-up or camper, but with the cost of the site you'd be paying more than booking a value.

Yes, you will be fine. I have been in May with a 12 month old. It was for her 1st bday. I was not a single mom at the time, but may have well been for all the help I got.

Bring a fan, this will provide ventilation and cool if you feel warm at night as well as white noise.

I bathed my little one in the sink. I used the handicap shower stall for me. I would bring her umbrella stroller and park her in the large area and I could shower w/o worrying about her. There are pics on here somewhere of the handicap stall. The women's have curtains dividing the shower from the other part. If your son is too big for the sink, there is a bench you can stand him on in the handicap stall and the shower head is handheld to make bathing him easier.

I was breastfeeding mine at the time which made life so much easier tent camping. I have also taken younger ones on a bottle. If you need tips on that, let me know.

You will want to have snacks available, which you should keep in the car. Any food in the tent would invite unwanted guests. I would get a coleman extreme cooler for milk. You can freeze a couple half gallons of milk and keep a couple unfrozen.

Mine slept on my air mattress with me. I would use sheets instead of a sleeping bag simply because sheets fit in the FW washing machines and a sleeping bag won't if there are any accidents.

If you have any other questions or need any tips, just ask. You did not say how long you would be there or if you are going into the parks. I have been there and done that.

I think it depends on the child.

If your child does not sleep well in the heat they probably will not do well camping in it.

I would not have camped even for one night with my son when he was 12 months old... but he has ADHD and runs like a freight train, even back then. My daughter wasn't walking at 12 months and I could see taking her camping when she was that age.

I'd try some backyard camping first.

I disagree with the idea that you're "putting yourself through" something. I camped with my kiddos when they were under a year old, and we all enjoyed it. They were thrilled to be outside, I was thrilled to be outside, and we were all happy to be together.

I don't know if you're an experienced camper or not, but if you are and you're just asking specifically about camping at the Fort with your 12mo, I think you'll be safe. I frequently camp with just my kids, and, as a PP suggested, I just don't advertise that we don't have manfolk with us. (In fact, I even set out a fourth chair so if it's just the three of us sitting out, it looks like Dad's just in the camper or something, LOL.)

As far as temps...I'd bring a fan along!

I'd like to suggest that you might consider renting a pop up...instead of a tent. Just a bit more secure. Also offers more protection from the elements.... especially if it should thunderstorm. You would also have a/c if you should need it, making for a more comfortable trip.

There is someone here on the board that has a rental company..they will bring it to the Fort and set it up for you..comes with quite a few perks..as far as camping chairs and the like. All you need to do is pack and show up. Leave the work to someone else. I'd think with a little one of that age..you'd be very comfortable in something like that.
