Hi,

We are planning a trip for the 1st full week in May 2010.

I just read a trip report from the same time in May this year and I noticed that there are people in the parks wearing jeans and other long pants.

Can someone please tell me what the temperature is like that time of year in Disney World?

Is it hot enough to swim outside?

Thanks!! Traci

Yes, I am pretty sure you will be able to swim. The weather will probably be fluctuating from day to day.
For historical weather patterns check weather.com
You can see average highs and lows as well as record temps.
I can't imagine it being cool enough for jeans in May, by mid-May this year it was scorching hot. It has been a record breaking Spring all across the south, much hotter than usual.
The pools are heated at Disney, many people swim in December and January. It really depends on where you are from, but May would even be warm enough for a southerner like me;)

I saw your thread title & just one word came to mind..."BEAUTIFUL!"

We've done that trip many times...you will love it!
The only time we wore pants were a couple of nights...definitely not during the day during even one of our late April/early May trips.

It gets hot & we swam every day, also hitting the water parks many times.

Our favorite weather has been late April early May. Low crowds, great weather - we were able to swim those trips. Jan was a different story, glad we had our winter jackets. We were only able to swim one day when it got into the low 70's and that was only tolerable for a short time.
As PP said May is "Beautiful"!

May is always hot in Orlando, I can't imagine wearing jeans! :scared1: I would say those folks hadn't packed anything else.

You will most definitely be able to swim in May in Orlando, no question about it. :)

We went May 3-10, 2008. Definitely too hot for jeans. Didn't bring any and didn't need any. Hot enough to swim, everyday was in upper 80s. Evenings were GORGEOUS!! Not a drop of rain the entire week.:worship:

My birthday is May 6th. I've been to Disney for my birthday the past 4 years. Every year it has been in the high 80's to low 90's except 2009 when it was in the high 90's. I do remember one day in 2007 we had gone back to the hotel to go swimming (I didn't actually go in the pool but it was warm enough). When we got ready to go to the park that night to watch Illuminations I did put on jeans as it was getting a bit coolor. But I don't ever remember being cold on any trip.

We were there May 1st - May 9th and it was HOT!!!!!!!!! I can't imagine wearing jeans! But from what I heard it is normally not as hot that time of year...it was in the 90's. I think normally it is in the 80's....but it was a beautiful time to go!

The average high temperatures for that week range from 82-84 (or at least they did until they average in this year). It is definitely warm enough to swim. I would not wear jeans or long pants. We were there that same week this year. We picked that week because of the average temperatures. Unfortunately, this year there was a heat wave that week, and they were just under or at record high temperatures every day. It ranged from 92-96. It was HOT!!!!

we were there May 6th -15 2009 and the weather was very warm. most days were high 80's to low 90's humid also plent warm to wear shorts and swim

We were there twice at that time of year and it's great! The humidity and crowds are lower and yes you can swim:)

um, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say, Hot. It's May in Florida.

Seriously, I wouldn't stress over this part of the trip just yet. I'd wait till maybe March-April-ish of 2010. And fyi, I've been in April, and it's oven-hot, you'll definitely be able to swim.

We were there May 4-10 this year. It was miserably hot. We came from temps in the mid-60s, and it was nearly 90 most days at WDW. We did not take jeans/sweatshirts and definitely did not need them. We took shorts/tees/tank tops. I wore capris a couple times, but always with a tank top. There were tons of people swimming.

We were there this year over Mother's day weekend, and into that week, and it was record heat time, in the 90s as PPs mentioned. This is the 3rd year in a row, 4th since 2003 that we've gone this time of year and it's been very, very warm. For us, it was too hot to hang out at the pool during the day, but we went swimming every night when we got back to the resort.

We were at WDW May 3-9 this year. It was HOT, HOT, HOT. Average temp for the week was 95. Though this apparently is not the historical pattern. It was hot enough that two days we were in the pool cooling off until it closed at 10PM.
