May 7-14, 2005 Our First "Magical" Cruise

No...the Navigator said "Happy Mother's Day" but that was about it. They had a "Mother's Day" pin in the gift shops which my DS bought for me and will go in my scrapbook. Mother's Day kind of came and went, as is the norm in this household. :confused3

The Saturday night before Mother's day, They had it set up where you could buy presents and have them wrapped and delivered for free. They also had a special pin or Minnie Mouse that said Mother's day 2005.

Oops...Debbie, you're right. I do remember seeing such a thing now that you mention it. My family didn't participate, mind you, :goodvibes but it did exist.
I must mention that my DS17 did go shopping for me on Sunday morning and did find some things I like. Yes, Sunday morning! Mother's Day comes as a surprise to the men in my family every year! :rotfl:

Thanks for writing such a wonderful report! What category cabin did you have? I'm afraid my DS's feet will hang off the beds too! He's about 6' tall.

Hi Liz,
Thank you!!!
We decided to use our money for other expenses so went with a category 11. You DS's feet will definitely hang off, my DS is also 6'. The problem is though if he has to sleep on the couch/futon in any category, they are all the same size. So even in a higher category, unless there's a bed... :confused3 . My son didn't complain, just commented. By the time he got to bed at 2:00am, he was so tired, he'd have slept anywhere. They have a good time despite the bed. And so will you! Enjoy every minute.
Thanks, again.

Thanks Linda! We have a cat 12 GTY booked so we'll probably end up in a cat 11 too. Sounds like your son really had a blast in the teen club. My son will turn 19 on our cruise so I'm a little concerned about there being enough to keep him entertained since he's too old for the Stack. My DD will be 17 but I know she won't go without her brother (she's really shy.)

Thanks again for all the info!

Thank you for providing such great detail. Can you tell we are all starving for this? Whether we just returned or won't be heading out for another year - we just can't get enough!

I have some questions:
Can you purchase wine on the islands and bring it back on the ship to drink? (I'm guessing yes - but worth asking) :drinking1

Are items like softdrinks and lemonade included with dinner - or does the go under a bar tab? :drinking1

You are the resident expert here!

Thanks!

Mickey mania,
YES! you can buy wine on the islands and bring it back to drink. You can also bring it with you from home but open it yourself and take it to dinner. If not they will charge you a corking fee. And yes soda, iced tea and lemonade are free at dinner. There is also free soft drinks on deck 10. Have alot of fun on your cruise. I wish I was going sooner.

Liz...
Yes, DS17 had a blast in the Stack, as did DS13...just not together. DS17 is far more sociable so I knew he'd have fun but I was concerned about DS13. We call him "Our Little Recluse". He actually did make friends and had fun, on his terms. Just FYI, on Formal Night, we had an in-depth conversation with Sheila, who is in charge of all children's programming, including the teens. We suggested to her the need for something for the 18-21 age group. She said that they were totally aware that there was a gap there and are working on it. Actually, she said 18-25 but I mentioned that the problem there could be the drinking age which she agreed. Hopefully, they will come up with something for the older "teens". This was actually DS17's high school graduation gift and his birthday is in May. Because he was turning 18, we deliberately booked before his birthday so that he could partake in the Stack activities. You all will have fun...it's a given!!! Enjoy!

Thank you all, once again for your kind words about my report. I'm shocked that people are still reading it! This pixiedust :wizard: gets in your blood, I swear!

What a great trip report! We're doing the Western Magic in December, so I'm just starting to read the trip reports now, especially as we think about what excursions we want to do. We pretty much think we'll just do a "walk about" Key West, but were thinking about Stingray City for Grand Cayman. Our boys will be 9 1/2 and 8 1/4 when we go. I appreciated reading about that by booking through DCL, they didn't leave you at the port!!!!! My older DS is already worrying about what if we don't make it back in time. That tells me that for HIS reassurance I should likely book our excursions through DCL or at least earlier in the day.

So did you learn how to fold towel animals? I'd love to do that class!

Gosh...you all are so nice!!! :goodvibes It makes me feel so good that after all these months, people are still interested in reading my report. Thank you!
So did you learn how to fold towel animals? I'd love to do that class!
Yes, nzdisneymom, I kind of did learn to make towel animals from the class. Do I remember now....no! They did give me a paper showing how to make an elephant, I think. I'd be happy if I could get my boys to just pick up the towels and hang them on the rack. I'm not making towel animals for those animals. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Is nz New Zealand? DS18 visited there last summer. Our summer, that is. Brrrrrrrrr!
