May 5, 2010 Magic of Barcelona

Maybe the weather will clear some. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Weather.com is showing the 4th and 5th to be party cloudy with highs around 64.

Is anyone planning to do a beach day on your own in Corsica (weather permitting)? We are thinking about it if it's warm enough. :goodvibes

LOL I told you guys it won't be HOT by American standards. 64 to us in the UK is pretty hot. Was about 66 yesterday and people were bringing out the paddling pools for their kids. :lmao:
I've lived here for going on 10 years and I when I go back to the USA I just can't handle that sort of American heat anymore. A nice 70 here in the UK is a heatwave!
Now about Barcelona...be careful what you read. We have relatives there and was told just yesterday it was nearing 30 celcius. About 90f.

LAYDEE...did you figure out how to print your doc's? You actually have to go to DCL site and go to check in online and after you complete your forms it will give you the option to print. :thumbsup2

Haha! You did warn us! Although to a Floridian, anything below 60 is cold! With all the heat we've been having in the south 70 will feel really nice, though! Good to know about Barcelona, I'm used to those 90 degree temps :goodvibes I can definitely do the beach if it's close to 70 and sunny. My husband has been looking up beaches in Corsica.. We just need to figure out a way to get there and back, but it seems like a cab might be the best option.

The marine park in Malta also looks cool. Thanks again for all the information everyone! It's really helpful!

Hi all... I have been periodically reading up on everyone's comments. Now down the the wire and haven't been able to figure this out. When we were on the Magic in the Carribeans, there was a Pirate Party Night. Is there a pirate night on this trip or is that only reserved for the Carribean trips? Trying to see if I need to pack a costume for the child...

Yes there is a pirate night. I don't remember which night it is but if you're following the blogs for the April 24th cruise I bet we'll find out.

Thanks so Much! Now to find that pirate costume....It is the madness now before the trip! We are almost on our way....Yay!

Hi, depending on the weather we are thinking about doing the train and then a beach day. Hopefully it will be warm.

I just wanted to welcome you to the board and offer to add your info to our website if you like. You can find the link to the website in my signature. It has lots of great links to trip reports of people currently on the boat as well as port info etc. There is also a page with info/pictures of some of us so we can recognize each other on board. Let me know if you'd like to add your info.

Also, if anyone else is planning on blogging while on the cruise, let me know so I can post a link on our site in case other cruisers are lurking for info. :) I am a little bummed; I was reading that it takes like 10 minutes to log onto the internet. One person who bought the big package said they had already used 20 percent of their time and most of it was just logging on. DH has to do a little grad school work on the boat, so I hope I can still blog a bit. Probably no pics though.

So, has the board been dead because everyone is in a state of shock that we'll be on the boat in a week or is everyone packing. I, for one have been sick with a sick baby. (Finally better today) What's your excuse and what are you most excited to see/do? Mine is St. Peters!

Oh, btw, if you are buying tickets for the Accademia before you go to avoid lines, heads up that all tickets are sold out until 1 in the afternoon. It is a good time to pre-buy anything though (Vatican tickets etc), considering the euro is down.

It has been quiet... I've been packing and today drove to Orlando. We're spending a few days here with my family and then all flying out together on Tuesday. Loading my little car took forever, though, I am really going to have to condense some things :rotfl:

It does take a long time to get things to load on cruise ship internet. It was kind of shocking to me on our 1st cruise 5 years ago. I'll be using it once in a while to check email because a friend of mine is watching all our pets. I read a few blogs where there is free internet in places. I think someone posted from the cruise terminal in Malta, so I'm sure there will be some inexpensive/free ways to check email.

This time next week, we'll be onboard! Can't wait!:goodvibes

Can't wait we are also leaving from Orlando on Tuesday. Our flight leaves at 12:30pm. We're almost there only a few more days.

Hope anyone leaving now has a really good journey over to Barcelona. I am so jealous, we've got another 4 days till we leave. Time seems to be really dragging now. I just want to go but I have to be patient, 4 days isn't that long really is it :woohoo:

I love the waterpark idea, think we will be going there when we are in Malta. Apparently it is about 10km from the port so shouldn't take too long in a taxi to get there. Malta is a short day though so will probably have to go there as soon as we get off the boat because we have to get back on by 6pm. So this means we wont be able to take advantage of the half day price because it is in the afternoon. Should e a fab day though :)

Hello and welcome!! Our family of 4 will be in pirate costume for pirate night, so I hope you find the costume for your little one :)

Sorry you had such a hard time with that. Now, I'm glad I'm not doing magnets. I think I"m going to print out some pics and just put them in magnetic frames - I'm all for quick and easy at this point! I've got plenty of other stuff to decorate my door already. Found a cute Disney princess wipe board for $1.00.

Magnetic frames is a great idea! We printed ours out last night without a hitch :cloud9:....of course, my husband is mainly the reason why it worked so easily, not sure how I would have done on my own ;). I've cut them out and placed them in a folder for packing, just got to make sure to not forget the folder!

I was sad to read about the internet situation as well. Last time we cruised, DCL still had the unlimited package, and that was really nice. I was able to websurf without being worried about how many minutes I was using. It was fun to check on weather, other disers ect. A few of us disers, would not have met up, had we not been leaving messages for each other during the cruise by way of the internet. I'm not sure if we will even bother to bring a laptop with us, as I'm worried about weight and theft....mainly it would be for downloading our photos at this point, not sure that is worth lugging it.

Hi, you can get discount waterpark tickets and swimming wiht the dolphins tickets here-

http://www.marineparkmalta.com/?ct=2&lng=en

I think we could also arrange transport to and from the cruise ship for an extra 3euro's per person. If anyone is interested in gettting a group together just PM me and I'll see if we can arrange it.

Here are some more links to activities for kids in Malta-

http://www.maltalinks.co.uk/malta-for-kids.htm

The playmobil factory tour seems cool too but I think we'll skip that unless we need something to do that's indoors.

Only a couple more days to go. I think my sister leaves tomorow. We're jealous but I'll need the extra couple of days to get ready.

just a quick question are three quater trousers considered cruise casual my husband has a pair which he has worn to dinner a couple of times with a nice shirt and were wondering if this was acceptable for the cruise for dinner

I think cruise casual is anything but swimsuits and underwear. So that should be fine.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! Found the child costume, now working on the adult costumes--(shh dont tell my husband!) Looking forwards to getting on the boat....now back to the madness prior to the vacation!

Am finally packing! Who else is terrified that they will forget something important?

Am finally packing! Who else is terrified that they will forget something important?

ME!!!

I think I'm so afraid I'll forget something that I just don't want to start packing! I went today to the copy center b/c when I printed out my magnets for the door I found my printer cartridge was out of black! Can't have mickey ears without black, so I figured I'd just go make copies and print them there as well as the autograph booklet I'm making..well, little did I know they charge $5 a page for color on the larger sheet I printed....it was quite the bill..I should have just bought a new cartridge...sigh.

I also found out that in order to reach the airport in enough time to board our 6:30am Sunday flight we'll need to hop on the night bus at 3:30 am!! Can you imagine 2 senior citizens, 3 kids and 2 parents hopping on the night bus with all the fun characters you can meet at that time of night? We have to stop at every stop so I'm sure there'll be a story to tell there...

A private shuttle was going to cost $280, no one could tell me how much taxis would be but only that they would not depend on one at that time of night..and the bus is only $14 for all of us! :) SOLD on Night bus number 17! :)

Excited for all of you leaving in the next couple of days! Safe flights and can't wait to meet you all!
Tara
