May 4, 2008 4 Day--- Official Cruise Meet--- Anyone out there???

Yea, got my passports in 2 weeks! Thank goodness.

Those luggage tags you do peel the entire backing off and stick it to itself just like the airline does when you fly. It isn't just the end tab....it is the entire back. Hope that is clear...

18 more days to Orlando....I am really excited about this cruise. Still agonizing over the fish extender gifts...maybe the right thing will just present itself to me...hopefully! I love giving little gifts and I want them to be special. That is the grandmother in me...

I'm sure your gifts will be fantastic!! Well I repacked my DD last night , took out 5 outfits and her bag is now 38 pounds. My bag, which has 1/4 the clothes that DD has, is at 43 pounds! I have all the toiletries, hair dryer, shoe organizer, etc. Good thing my hubby is coming along.... I need him to lift these bags for me!!:lmao:

Mindy - Thank you for your kind words. I am the last person on the planet that would ever have thought I'd be doing races! I fell off my horse two and a half years ago and had to have my ACL replaced. As part of the physical therapy afterwards I started walking on the treadmill. Then someone on the Boards mentioned they were doing the Half marathon at WDW...one thing led to another and here I am - two Half marathons, a Tower of Terror 13K, and two Minnie Marathon's under my belt! No one is more amazed than me! Oh COOL! If you are around the POR food court about 4:30 on that Saturday, look for about a hundred of us, mostly in our neon lime green race team shirts. Ask anyone for me. They pretty much all know me. Hee hee. That would be really cool! :thumbsup2 Don't be shy at all. Everyone is really nice!

Susan - Oh darlin', I am FAR from physically fit. Believe me! But thank you. :goodvibes

Crystal - Oh I didn't even think about weighing my suitcase. That's a really good idea. When we went to WDW in January I was ONE POUND under the AirTran limit. Phew!

Hi girls!!! No posts by anyone in a few days so I thought I would say hello. ITS BEEN A LONG FEW DAYS! I have been completly stressed!

Long story short.... (long)
DS Kaden goes to a special needs preschool, for about 7 weeks now. As a mother, Listen to your gut instict. I didnt and know paying for it. His teacher was very cold and short and always has been since we DH and I met him. First time we met, no hello im _____. Just, SIT DOWN! :scared1: I wrote the prinicpal that day and let him know I was concerned with how we were treated. If he treats 30 year olds that way how does he treat a 3 yr old. Never heard anything so I just assumed I was overreacting. NOPE! Yesterday I went to pick Kaden up (usually he rides the bus home)
What I witnessed unfolding before my eyes was YIKES!!!!
I pulled into the parking lot facing the playground. Teachers didnt know I was watching.....
The kids were in the playground. Teacher on the bench and the student aide was leaving the playground to take some other children to the restroom.
Kaden got sad. He likes the student aide a lot. So her cried for Momma. (thats what he calls her aparently) Teacher was outside by himself. Kaden Stop crying. KADEN! (yelling) KADEN, COME HERE. 4xs gets him. Places him on the bench and THROWS tissue in his face. WIPE YOUR FACE! and WACKS Kaden on the head with papers and said STOP IT!
As a mom it took all I had to not get up and smack that man in the face.
Went straight to the principal and now we wait. Kaden no longer goes to that school as of today. So I am pretty exhausted. Just remember, as a mom we are given the gift of instinct. Please dont ignore it.
So to keep me happy, I sit and count down the days. I should be working right now. I have a lot of papers to scan and log into the data base for records. Lots to do and no time.
Im going to go to California this weekend to top it off. Leaving at 5 am and really no day till we leave with nothing to do. DH is leaving to Chicago for a week on Monday. I know!!! He'll be back at 10pm on the 28th so we have laundry the 29th and to the airport at 3:30am on the 30th. SOOOO no time off till we go. A well anticipated vacation, thats for sure.
Tootles. Min.:goodvibes ;)

Mindy! OMG! :scared1: I can't believe that! How AWFUL! OMG! That "teacher" (doesn't deserve the title!) should be let go! Can you imagine what else goes on? Oh, poor Kaden.

OH MY GOD!!:scared1: Mindy, I cannot believe this! I got teary eyed reading it :guilty: and then I got MAD:headache: I don't know how you were able to control yourself!! I don't blame you for being absolutly furious!! Like Judy says, I hope that "teacher" is repremanded in a big way for his actions. This is just totally unacceptable. Thank goodness the vacation is coming up very soon... it sounds like you are REALLY going to need it now!!:cloud9: Give kaden an extra hug from all of us tonight!!

UPDATE:

I got a phone call from the Principal a few minutes ago, and he was very sincere and helpful. Kaden has already been transfered! Chad (the Principal) said that he did investigate the incident and major disiplinary action was taken!:thumbsup2 He could not tell me, due to privacy act, WHAT action but he did say that consequences are to be followed.
I asked Chad, " I was so mad after seeing that, I was completly focused on watching the Teacher, that I was not aware of the other Student Aide. Was she there to witness what had happened?" Guess what! Yeah. She saw the whole thing! I GUESS IM NOT A PARANOID PARENT AFTER ALL.
He went onto say, "this was not the first incident by this teacher"
Not sure what happened disiplinary wise, but I feel soooo much better. For a mothers sake, and the protection of all of those sweet children. (some in the small class, cant even walk. Autistic. and even down syndrome)
I hope that man gets what he well deserves. Now I can peacfully sleep tonight!:cloud9: :dance3:
Thanks for the support girls. I just feel like if I had listened to myself in the first place, none of this would have happened. :sad2: :snooty:

Don't blame yourself. Obviously, if things like this have happened in the past with this 'teacher' (I use this term lightly), then we know where the problem lies and where the fault is. I know there have been times where I was unsure of someting when it came to DD but sometimes a discovery, (not a mistake) helps us in the long run. Just be thankful that you were there to see it. Who knows how many other times things like this have happened.:confused3
I said 'using this term lightly' because as many of you know, I am a teacher. I teach postsecondary at a cosmetology school. 99.9% of my students are over 18 (adults) and about 1/3 have children of their own. About 4 years ago, I was promoted to school director. We are a pretty small school (about 65 when we are full) and all the staff know when another staff member is having a problem with a student. When I became the director, not only did I know about the issues but now I was involved with EVERY issue. Being a teacher means knowing how to deal/help your students. Just today I had a student get very upset and unruly and as upset as I was, I had to keep control of the situation. Obviously Kaden's 'teacher' needs to be reminded of this.
I'm glad that Kaden has been transferred and the appropriate actions have been taken. Keep smiling Mindy! :upsidedow :lovestruc Only 13 more days!! :cool1: :thumbsup2

Mindy, it's great to hear that the principal has taken action. It's also good that the aide saw everything. That way they had to know it wasn't just a parent over reacting and, although he can't discuss the disciplinary action, since it was witnessed by the aide, I'd say that's even more assurance that it won't just be swept under the rug. I don't get why someone who sounds like he doesn't enjoy interacting with adults or kids, would chose to be a teacher.

I am so excited that our trip is only two weeks away!! Now if I can just keep my family healthy. My DH has been having trouble with his knees. They have given him problems for years. He had surgery on one in his teen years and it is now inevitable that he is going to need surgery again, probably on both knees. He just made an appointment for next week so we'll see. I just hope they don't give him too much trouble on the trip.

My DN has had a bunch of crazy things. He had a hernia about two years ago, and although the doctor said it is very rare for a reoccurrence in a child, he's the lucky one. His is back and he will have to have surgery in May. It doesn't bother him so not to big of a deal right now. Then last week he came down with a fever and a bad cough. Then this week, he had a reaction to his medication and broken out in hives!! We told him he has two weeks to get all this out of his system!!

My neighbor came home from vacation today. I didn't know it but they were on a cruise in the Bahamas. He said they saw our ship!! I can't believe this time in two weeks we'll be in Disney World and then a few days later we'll be on that ship!!

Mindy, you are very strong to hold yourself back from confronting the teacher! I probably would have went to him and gave him a nice whack on the nose! I'm sorry to hear that happened. The vacation will do you well! :cool2: .............Is it me or do the days feel like they are going by slower!!! :confused3

Hello everyone.

Back from California refreshed and recharged. Still a little tired, we didnt get back until 3 this morning. So I think an early bed time tonight is right up my alley. Im taking Kaden in the morning to get him registered for his new school. It is rather silly though, he will go Mon-Thurs this week and Mon and Tues next week. When we get back they only have a week and a half left of school. At least he'll get to know his new teacher for next year. I cant tell you how relieved I am. I hope this new theacher is great.
Tomorrow is single digits for us!! It is rather surial at this point that it is this close.
Hope everyone is getting packed and ready for our fun trip!:goodvibes
Tootles.

Hi all! Mindy, glad to hear you had a great time in California! You'll have to let us know how Kaden does at his new school. I told my coworkers about what happened to him and they were shocked!! You are one strong woman!!
Family hair night went well Saturday night. DMom was a perm, color, cut and wax- DSis was color cut wax- DSis-in-law was perm, color, cut, wax- DNiece was cut and wax and my sisters friend who is also going to FL in May was a hilight and cut. It was a super fun night. We ordered in Chinese and had a great time. Now I have to cut my DH and DD this week and we will all be ready to go.
DD went back to school today after a week off. She and I had a cold last week and it seems to finally going away! My fingers are crossed! Mindy, I can't believe your kids are out of school in like 4 weeks! My DD's last day of school is June 20th because of all the snow days this year! I wish they would start a little earlier in the fall and only have 1 week off in the spring (maybe in March) instead of 1 week in February and 1 week in April!! If they miss anymore days, they will be in school until June 23! Crazy, isn'tit!! Tomarrow, single digits for us!!

Getting very excited about our cruise...did you read that the 4 day cruise on April 13 never got to CC? The winds were really bad and the ship couldn't dock. I hope that doesn't happen to us..

I wasn't going to write this about day care, but I think I should. My youngest Jamie was 2 when she was in KinderCare. She is now 25. One day I went in to get her at an unexpected time and saw a 2 year old toddler with duct tape over his mouth sitting alone at the table. Outside there were a bunch of toddlers being punished standing along the wall while the others were playing.....I asked the teachers why this was going on..."they wouldn't pick up their toys." even the little one with the duct tape on his mouth? Yes.

I went right to the director and told her and she just laughed and said, oh my there must be some reason....I told her that the child could vomit and aspirate and die and that as a nurse this would be abuse and I would lose my license if I were to do this to someone.

I was afraid in our small town to do more, and so I just took Jamie out of KC and found a private sitter. I should have done more, but I didn't want my name plastered in the papers...wrong of me. I still think of that situation and feel awful about it. You just never know. And every time I went in there the staff was yelling SHut up and sit down to the toddlers. It wasn't good.

I hope your son has a really good experience with his new teacher.

Susan, I had an experience with Kindercare when I was little as well. One day I had a horriable ear ache and stomach ache. The teacher refused to contact my mom and when my mom came to pick me up, I had been crying for quite some time in the corner where I was told to stand if I was going to cry. My mom took me to the doctors and I had a terriable UTI. I ended up being hospitalized for a few days. My mom was furious KC didn't contact her. Needless to say, I didn't go back.

Crystal, isn't that a horrible thing...I know that one of the girl's nose was bleeding and she told her to go lay down and go to sleep....I feel for anyone who has to use daycare. But what can you do? I know I HAD to work. We had 5 children...

Oh, well, anxious for our cruise:cool1:  :woohoo: :dance3: :yay: :cheer2: pirate:

Crystal -

Do we have a list of who from the DIS is going on our cruise? I guess I could figure it out by going thru this thread, but, well, I'm kinda lazy today! :lmao: No, no, saving my energy. Yeah, that's it. Saving my energy. :rotfl:

I was lucky enough to have my mom take care of my daughter for me. It would have been really hard for me to work otherwise. And now my daughter and her 'MEME' have a great relationship. My mom is an incredable lady. Shew ould give anyone the shirt off her back. Can't wait for ya'll to meet her. She is definatly me best friend! I am truly blessed!

I have the FE list but I can try to make up a list of everyone that has posted on the meet thread since we started. Might be a day or two, but I will try!

Did we get the missing room number for the fish extender? :jumping1:

Still no reply from the one family we are missing the room number from.:confused3 Sorry!:confused3

So EVERYONE, not just the ones doing the FEs, is going to do the cruise meets, right? I am so excited to finally put faces to the typing fingers I have been talking to for so long! :woohoo:

Today is 10 more days for us. My DN has been waiting for this day. He says "10 days" is special. I called him a few minutes ago. When he asnwered his first words were "It's a special day!!"

I can't beleive we will be in Disney world by the end of next week!!!

Hey thanks for inviting me to this cruise meet forum, I really am not much of a traveller so this is going to be a really big deal! We have a DD on board already. (but ssshhhh, can't give away her secrets!) Really hope the seas will be calm! Hopefully I'll be so preoccupied I won't have time to notice the seas anyway! Good luck on the cruise and may be see you there!!
