Thanks to everyone on the board for the help in planning our trip and I hope this information and our upcoming trip report will help those sailing soon.

Disney Magic, Eastern, May 3-10, 2003

Doug, Barbara, Chelsea (10) and Shelby (4)

Third sailing on Disney Magic.

Rae has posted an excellent summary of the dinner theme nights, shows and movies on her post, so I will skip that part.

Overall a great cruise with wonderful people from the DIS boards, great weather and calm seas. Great kids programs, food improved overall, docked at Castaway Cay with no problems.
May 2001 cruise missed Castaway Cay due to weather.

We drove to the Radisson in PC and met up with other DIS members for a great pre night party. The names will be omitted to protect the very few innocent. The Radisson is perfect for a pre night with a great pool and reasonable drink prices. Be aware that you lock in your rate over the phone. They did not honor a room saver.com rate. I had the other rate locked in as a backup with Radisson central reservations.

We drove to the terminal to drop bags and park. They request photo ID’s to get into the bag drop and you must pay the $70 parking with Cash / Credit after the bag drop.

Check in was slow in the Castaway Club line, even early and they ask you to fill out a SARS questionnaire with questions about travel to the Orient, Toronto and any significant time spent in Cleveland.

Embarkation began around Noon with Palo ressies for both brunch and dinner taken in Rockin Bar D.
When you go into RBD you have do give your KTTW card to the attendant and wait your turn for dinner ressies. While waiting move ahead to the brunch line and make brunch ressies. If you are lucky, you can get both done in a matter of minutes and be out. I also stopped by the change rotation / time desk and verified that we had the rotation we had planned on.

If you are a couple with young children you will most like get the ALPALPA rotation. If your kids are only go to have dinner with you one or two nights, you may want to consider changing to a less noisy rotation.

Our dining room servers were Orlan and Gabriella, there are excellent, especially if you have kids.

Don’t miss Brunch at Palo’s. In my opinion, it is the best meal on the ship. Try to go twice if your pants will allow it.

Barbara went to the clubs and registered the girls, we had very little waiting and was done with everything and eating lunch by 12:30. After lunch, our cabin happened to be ready. Swimsuits on and in the Mickey pool by 1:30.

The safety drill came early at 3:30 and a DIS meet followed in the lounge on Deck 3. I would recommend having a DIS meet on Deck 9 just prior to the Sail Away party at 5:00.

Other planning notes of interest:

Hair Braiding – Call guest services for the reservation number, begins on Sunday morning. DD 10 still has them in 11 days later.

Tea with Wendy – Line forms early on Sunday morning for a 9:00 start outside Studio Sea. We got there at 9:00 and a long line was formed.

Character Breakfast / Palo Brunch – We did this on the same day as a day that the kids would not be swimming and in the clubs. Be sure and skip breakfast with the kids for the brunch. See Dawn and Scott’s trip report. We ended up with 5 DIS couples sitting all next to each other at the brunch. Unplanned but fun.

The wine tasting hosted by Matthew and his bride to be was a highlight to the trip and we all enjoyed it very much. Thank you.

I would plan on the day between St. Thomas and Castaway Cay as a down day with the kids in the clubs or resting. This was the part of the trip when everyone became tired and was ready to slow down. I will also admit that the skipping the sunscreen at St. Thomas was a grave tactical error. I was not going to spend that much time in the water.

St. Thomas and Castaway Cay – The ship was ready to disembark earlier than the published times. I’m glad that we were ready to go.

St. Thomas immigration – Early, ………..Don’t forget your birth certificates and ID’s. He let us go through without the Birth Certificates but asked us a few questions.

Try to work into your schedule

Opening the pools a couple of times – less crowded, clean water.
Closing the pools once with dinner from Plutos and watching the sunset on St. Martin day.
Disney Dreams Matinee – great performance, kids awake and alert.
Brunch at Palo with Andrew from South Africa.
Sessions-table by the window; ask Arul from India for a glass of the Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay
Palo Dinner- ask for Marco and the Moscato wine from Italy.
Castaway Cay – find Arul at the Conched Out Bar, let him know where you are and he will take care of you with Conch Koolers and fruit, excellent service. Tell him Mr. Douglas sent you.
ESPN Bar – Lourdes from the Philippines is a wonderful bartender.

Lunch at Dixie Crossroads in Titusville on the way home. Thanks Andy.

The rest will be covered in the trip report, but I wanted to address some of the planning items in this thread.

I hope this helps, and somebody please tell me how to get the countdown clock for our next cruise.

Doug

Were you joking about the SARS questionnaire asking about Cleveland? I live about 45 minutes from Cleveland & have not heard anything about Cleveland being SARS infected.

Doug,

Click on this link for the countdown clock and follow the instructions, you can have a countdown clock set up in a few minutes.

Andy

P.S. I'm sooooooooo glad you enjoyed Dixie Crossroads, I can't wait to get back there in August!!!

Great Job on the re-cap! I'm still working on mine, soon to be published.

It was so great meeting you guys! We had the best time, and will definitely keep in touch.

One of my favorite moments was when about 4 sets of Dis families were lined up at the waters edge in beach chairs sipping Konk Coolers, now that's a vacation!

Your right PeachyK that was a great moment. But no-one took a picture of that!!! I do have one of a few of us on the veranda at the Walt suite, but that beach one would have been perfect.

Just as a follow-up on the above mention about our Palo visit: DO NOT EAT BREAKFAST before you go to Palos for Brunch. Now I know that sounds really stupid, but it was a character breakfast after all and I didn't want to let Mickey and Minnie down ;)

Well I'm off to try and find my boys again....hey I thought Scott was watching them :)

I know it must be done, but getting schools for next year and camps for this summer lined up just can't compare to sitting in the ocean with a group of great friends drinking 'BREAKFAST SMOOTHIES"!! Remember guys??? We would not have been drinking at that early hour....... not us! Not the WINE-O cruisers!!:jester: :jester: :jester:

Oh well....... I guess the memories will have to do till the credit card is payed off and the next cruise comes along............

Speaking of.......... Our plan is to do Back to backs in '05 -- End of sept to first week of oct. Who wants to go???? Doug even has a new dinner rotation worked out for the second week that skips the dinning rooms. Think of an entire week in hats, pony tails,
swimsuits and no schedule!!! We'll get all we want of the dinning rooms the first week and just hang out the second week!!!

Come on guys!!!

Barbara

Two weeks! As long as I hit Megabucks or Powerball I'm in!
Since that is probably not going to happen, (since I don't even play) maybe we could do half. You've got me thinking...

Off to by my lottery ticket!

Doug and Barbara

I mentioned that to Scott and he said that sounded great! But, there is no way his work would ever let him go for 2 weeks in a row without being able to get a hold of him at any given time. But hey, one of those weeks sounds great to us :)

ps. Doug how are you getting away with that, with your work??? Can they handle you being gone that long too????

Dawn

Hey Guys!!!!

Here's how you work it......... Buy vacation club points... tell them Doug and Barbara sent you.....;) One week on points -- one week on cash!

As for the job thing....... Doug is in sales and usually gets 2-4 soild weeks vacation (long weekends are 'home office work days' ) depending on who he is selling for, and can generally use it as he wishes....... truth be told... just about every other vacation he spends with the phone glued to his ear!!!

I work for a really nice guy who actually takes me on cruises.... ;) ;) (Doug)

And if all else fails........ Don't yall feel a REALLY BAD COLD coming on in a couple of years??? Got any long lost relatives who haven't died yet????:jester: :jester:

Seriously..... we will let yall know as soon as we make the ressies!!! We would be so thrilled to have yall one or both weeks!! Has any one seen anything from Pam??? We need to get the whole crew together and get that picture!!!

If I start "Hundreds of Days Dancin' " do you think I could loose this cruise weight by next cruise???:jester: :jester:

Barbara

Ok Barb, here's my plan...

One week with the kids, the next week without ;)

Seriously, we are still finishing make-up work. I really don't think I could pull them out of school for two weeks.

And, Pam you need to show yourself, WDWfan does too, how did the "girls cruise" go?

I'm new to Disney cruising, but curious. How do back to back cruises work? Do you need to disembark and then re-embark a few hours later? Or do they let you stay put?
Hmmmmm

Sorry to have been so long in answering......... Just back from best friends wedding and the Builtmore, NC. :D  :D

We got some first hand info from some other B-B,ers when we were thinking about this.......

You can disembark -- but you must then wait to get back on with everyone else....... If you choose to stay on all services are shut down, but it is a great time to do laundry!!! You keep the same room and just pretend you are docked at a very uninteresting port! Or get off and do some shopping.......

PeachyK----- LOVE THE IDEA!!!!!! Would we look like terrible parents forcing the kids on a plane kicking and screaming???
:p :p :p :p :p
They love Mama & Papa........ but not as much as a cruise!!! We must devise an evil plan to make this happen!!:smooth: :smooth:
Can't wait to tell Doug about your stroke of genious!!!
 ;) ;)

Barbara

Hi Guys, Ididn't disappear. I've been reading everyones postings. I keep bugging Donny on cruising again. He is willing, the big question, HOW SOON! I would love two weeks, but I couldn't keep ds out of school that long. Barb, I got a better idea. First week husbands and kids. 2nd week, JUST US GIRLS! I'm in, anyone else. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :smooth:

Great idea Pam, I love that idea!!!! I just don't think Scott would let me go by myself ;)
He would say ok, 1st week just the guys and the 2nd week you girls with the kids :)

Seriously we are looking at when a good time would be to go again. We both really would like to try the Western cruise. Even though it would be hard not to have that 3rd day at sea (I love those days). I really loved the weather in May and the boys really didn't miss much in school that late in the year...so we may try going around that time again. Anyone up for that again?????

Savs, I agree May would be better. We went to wdw in sept. 2001, ds had been in school for 3 weeks. He had a hard time setting down when he returned. That's why we picked may, this time. I don't have a promblem with girls and kids. The kids would probbly due better with us, without husbands. Less promblems and hassels. Keep me posted. Pam

We (me, Mom and Michael) are in for May 2004 already!

Hope to see you all there!

Rae

I am also from the Cleveland area. What was their concern with Cleveland and SARS?

Glad you had a great cruise!

The Cleveland joke is a very poor example of my sense of humor.
I'm sorry.

I noticed your Army Wives link with the Apache, my wife Barbara is a former Army Wife. I was an Army Helicopter Pilot and Instuctor Pilot from 1988-1996.

She got in big trouble for not attending the mandantory Officer Wives Training.

Dawn, we also love the May dates but are not sure about May of 2005, unless it was the last sailing of May.

Rae, when are you booked.

I've got a few cruises under my wing right now - check under my signature for the dates. BUT there is a December 2004 date scheduled but it is only a "HOLD" for the April 2005 - just need to transfer it over when the books open up for scheduling.
