May 24, 2014 Alaskan 9 night Wonder

HI all! The Southwest schedule is open through the first week or so of June. I know I was waiting (and we're all booked!), hopefully this info will help others, too!

214 days ladies and gents! I'm going to pass some time starting tomorrow at WDW. I can't concentrate at work now, I can't wait to see what it's like just before going to Alaska! I've been looking past this trip to the Alaska one for so long. Don't get me wrong. I am excited to be going to WDW, too, but for us it isn't the unknown. I sure wish Sitka was posted!!!

Sounds like the 18 - 21 group will have a few in their meet and greet. DS is 18.

We just signed up for this cruise while on the first 5 night cruise on the re-imagined magic.

On the previous one we took the kids, but for this one to Alaska, it is just my wife and I. We are really excited as this is the first big trip we are going on since having 4 kids.

I checked the 2014 port schedules to see how busy our ports will be. Looks like Skagway will be with 4 cruise ships there at the same time. I'm concerned 2 ships in Sitka might seem crowded for that small port also. Only 2 ships in Juneau is nice and we have Ketchikan all to ourselves!

I checked the 2014 port schedules to see how busy our ports will be. Looks like Skagway will be with 4 cruise ships there at the same time. I'm concerned 2 ships in Sitka might seem crowded for that small port also. Only 2 ships in Juneau is nice and we have Ketchikan all to ourselves! I think it's amazing that we will see all different ships while in port! I remember there being one other ship with us in Juneau, but that day all we did ashore was our excursion. So I don't know how much it affected the experience...

Silver Shadow only has about 400 passengers, so I'm no longer concerned about Sitka!

Michelle, you're right, no repeaters in the group! One year we were on HAL we had the Grand Princess with us in every port except Sitka, since Princess doesn't go to Sitka. In Victoria (I think we were on the Westerdam although it might have been the Oosterdam - sheesh my memory) she docked side by side with us and I HAD to take a picture since the Grand Princess dwarfed our ship like it was a toy!

It definitely affects you less if you have an excursion booked, but if you are walking around and going into shops, more ships, mean a LOT more people, and can sometimes be difficult. Skagway is the one port we will probably book an excursion since we have never been there, and two classic ships in Juneau is nothing, so no worries.

Michelle, I just read your May 21, 2012 Yukon Ho! Wonder cruise report and LOVED it! It was thoroughly enjoyable with all your fantastic pictures and great commentary. There were times I laughed out loud, like the "look a jungle cruise boat" comment. You made me want to take the Cascades train from Seattle, but alas it's not in the cards for us this trip. Thanks for a very informative and entertaining report.

Michelle, I just read your May 21, 2012 Yukon Ho! Wonder cruise report and LOVED it! It was thoroughly enjoyable with all your fantastic pictures and great commentary. Thanks for reading! We had such a good time on that trip - we changed our plans next year when we realized there was a 9-night to Alaska!!

What did you think of the re-imagined magic?

Quick back story: Our first disney cruise, was on the Wonder. Our kids loved it. But due to an unfortunate twist of fate we happened to catch the Norovirus, which lead to a request by the Captain for us all to all stay in our room until it passed. Not a fun way to just pass time on a cruise.

Anyway, because of the inconvenience, DCL gave us a 35% off our next cruise. We were able to use that to get a the Walt Disney Suite at a huge huge discount. We had a great time. There were a lot of great new features on the Magic - Animator’s Palate upgrade, massively improved kids areas (I thought they no longer felt like a basement), water slides, new decor, etc, etc. While it was obvious that they were still working out some of the kinks of a few things, we were really impressed how much they were able to change in such a short period of time.

This really was a long overdue revamp to the Magic. As far as I understand the delays to the Panama Canal are affecting the time table of when the Wonder will get her reimagination.

In regards to 2 ships in Sitka. The Silver Shadow is a small ship carrying 382 passengers (according to Wiki). They have a new dock in Sitka but I think its too small for the Wonder. I was in Sitka in July and Holland was in town and tendered. I've spent a lot of time in Sitka and the dock usually only gets smaller ships. Ive never seen a 1,000+ passenger ship at the dock.
