May 2011: The Year of Surprises! [TR]

I feel the same way, I thought I was doing so well then realize what I didnt get to and get dissapointed. Oh well another time, one day...
I had that Darth vader Cupcake too, so did DH. DH cut it to share with the kids and Ods exclaimed "Hey, why are you cutting my cucpcake" DH chuckled um not yours but Ill share. DS looked a bit taken back as DH slid him a cookie and said this is your dessert:rotfl2: I think that was pretty tastey although I wasnt too impressed with most of their desserts. They looked amazing but always tasted just ok(the family agreed.)

That's cute about your ODS wanting the whole cupcake! My DS wanted one as well, but he wouldn't eat his meal, let alone, a cupcake. :lmao:

And yes, some of the desserts do look better than they taste ... and then some surprise you and are YUM! :goodvibes

I'm here and caught up! We just got back today... and I'm tired! I'm starting my TR tomorrow... hopefully :goodvibes

I'm really jealous of your Magician Mickey pictures. I had seen so many pictures of Mickey and Minnie together in there that I assumed they were always together. We waited for 10 minutes (not long at all, so I could've been much more disappointed) and it was just Mickey. He was one of the best interactions with my girls, but I was really wanting a picture with all of us with mickey and minnie. Oh well, there's always next time! :)

They had those Darth Vader cupcakes at Starring Rolls and I was tempted to get one, but I had been looking forward to the butterfinger cupcake for MONTHS! So I just had to get it!

Yay you're here! I can't wait for your TR!

We arrived and it was a 5 minute wait, so we hopped the line. I never even considered Minnie being there ... The guys in front of us asked if Minnie was available, and the CM in charge of the line said she didn't know, that Minnie loves to go shopping, so wasn't sure what Minnie was doing. Once inside, the CM did pop back in to check on the guys in front of us to see if they were excited that Minnie was there (they were). So I know that Minnie is hit and miss, but we were lucky to have them both. Especially since we had only seen Mickey & Minnie at Chef Mickey's before.

AHH! Another thing I missed! I was going to get that Butterfinger and/or Red Velvet cupcake at Starring Rolls! I never even made it in the doors. :(

How was it? As delicious as it looks?

As you recall from my previous post, I did not set my alarm since this was a "free day". We planned to spend time at the pool, lounge around, and visit DTD.

I was still struggling with nightmares, so I didn't sleep well. I finally checked the time and it was 10:30. So ... I decided to get out of bed. The first stop was the mirror to check on my eye. I looked like I had pink eye. It was red, oozing, and there was crust around it from sleeping. (Yes, I know you really want to hear about my disgusting eye.) I was really miffed about the whole bug thing, but I washed my face and flushed my eye out.

Once everyone else was up, we donned our bathing suits, lathered on sunscreen, tossed clothes on top of them, and headed off for lunch at Pepper Market.

DH and I argued over the fountains. I said that it would be so nice to have one of the rooms near those fountains. I commented that hearing the fountains every night would be so soothing. He said that you probably couldn't hear them inside the rooms. Anyone know who would be right? (I was thinking the rooms real close to it would be ideal, not like 3rd floor or something.)

We were sat and I took the kids to the Kid Station and DH went to grab our orders. Somehow, I didn't end up with pics of the kid's food. I know DS got the mac 'n cheese again, but I don't recall what DD had.

I hate the Market Nachos.

Disney2011pictures076.jpg

I was very disappointed with them. Okay, let me just clarify. The chicken was disgusting! There was no way it was cooked fresh at any point THAT day. It was at least 2 day old chicken. It was gross and unedible. However, chicken aside, the rest of it was YUM! I ended up just picking all the chicken out and enjoying the rest. (And I'm sure that my plate was not a common issue, so I'd totally have the Nachos again in a future visit.) I didn't take mine back because I just didn't care enough about having chicken in my nachos anyway. Plus, I'd have had to wait and we were all anxious for more pool time. (Besides, I try not to complain over the small stuff - and I really did enjoy my nachos aside from the chicken.)

DH had the Steak Ranchero.

Disney2011pictures077.jpg

He licked his plate clean! He asked if I wanted to try it, and I said yes, but he ate it all before I was able to get my fork over to his plate. lol

Since his plate was clean and I was still munching nachos, I sent him off for dessert. He was a bit shocked when I called out to him, "Nothing chocolately!" I was still in chocolate overload from DHS treats. I needed a break from the heavenly dessert. He came back, and gave me a choice between two desserts. I took the Strawberry Shortcake and he had the Cheesecake.

Disney2011pictures078.jpg

Disney2011pictures079.jpg

After we were stuffed, we paid and wandered over to Cafe Rix. I really wanted the new mugs. I asked the kids if they wanted one, and of course, they both did. DH said he'd pass since he would never use it again (which I now mock since he uses DS's all the time - and had been using his mug from 2009 frequently as well). When we purchased mugs in 2009, we only filled them once or twice, so I felt it was a "waste". But once I started using them around the house, that's when we got our money's worth. I didn't purchase new mugs last year since we were so far from the food court and it was the same design (only it covered the whole mug and not half). We brought sodas with us to keep in the fridge, so we had no need for the mugs last year.

Anyway, totally started heading off topic ... We purchased mugs, and they had 3 colors available. Pink, blue, black. I asked DH if he was sure, since they had black, but he declined. I got pink, DS got blue, and DD wanted pink. Now I wished I had gotten black, but oh well. We weren't thirsty, so we just tossed them into the pool bag (it holds our sunscreen, towels, other odds and ends) and headed off for the pool.

We swam for what felt like daaaaays. It was soo nice! We wore the slide out! There was a couple there who also had a love for the slide. They had a waterproof video camera and was taking turns filming themselves go down the slide. The guy dropped it once (not sure if he meant to) and said that his camera was going down alone. I think they had more fun on the slide than I did, to be honest - and I had a blast!

I ended up getting comfortable with the pool, and let DD do whatever she wanted, so long as she told me what she was doing. She'd tell me she was going down the slide, so she'd run off and I'd just watch for her. The pool was pretty empty, so we had lots of space to swim and play.

Once we decided it was time to get out, DD and I went to the bar area and got our mugs filled at the station. The line wasn't long, but we had a long wait. DH and DS went back to the room while we waited.

Once our mugs were filled, we walked back to the room and saw Mousekeeping nearby. DH said that she was reaching for our door when he showed up. We tossed the kids into the shower to rinse the chlorine off, and then I hopped in. Once we were rinsed and clean, we lounged around the room for a bit. DH took a nap and I decided to watch TV.

The TV didn't turn on. I thought maybe the remote was messed up, so tried the power button on the TV. Nothing. I checked to make sure it was plugged in, the cables all connected, nothing was lose, etc. Still nothing. I went to the phone and saw there was a button to connect to Maintenance.

The guy answered as Mousekeeping, but I explained the issue and he said he could fix it over the phone. I followed his instructions and told him that it didn't work. He asked me to try again, because he was sure it would work (unplugging the TV and plugging it back in). So I tried again. Then he asked if there was a light on the TV. I said there was and he told me it was working and hung up. A few seconds later, a picture did come on.

The kids and I watched TV while DH slept. Once he was awake, he showered and then lounged on the bed. He asked what time our ADR was for the evening and where.

About this time, the phone rings. I was sure it was one of those darned pranksters again, but it was Mousekeeping. "Excuse me, but are you ever going to leave your room?" Okay, so that's not really what she asked, but it was what she was getting at. :lmao: I explained that we were having a lazy day and that we'd be leaving soon. So we set a time for Mousekeeping to come and service the room.

Yes, I know the day has been boring so far ... but it gets better. I think. At least I felt like it does. lol

Stay tuned for the next installment: Disappearing food. Who does it best?

I feel so bad for you with the eye issue, I can be truly sympathetic as pretty much every trip I suffer sort of physical "disaster".

Sounds like a nice relaxing day.

Yuck, that chicken sounds awful!

I'm sorry to read that you didn't get to ride TSM at all, and missed the parade. Next time!

We stopped into Starring Rolls yesterday to see what these butter finger cupcakes look like. I checked out all the cupcakes, and noticed they all had chocolate in or on them. Oh how I wish I could eat chocolate!

Your pool day doesn't sound boring at all! How could the dig site EVER be boring?! Loved seeing the resort pics!

Bummer about the chicken in the nachos, glad the rest of the nachos were yummy!

I heard the water sprinklers go on from our first floor room at CSR, I bet you can hear the fountains too! Though I don't honestly know for sure.

I am surprised they totally did away with the yellow mugs! We have 2 of them, both boys picked yellow. You would think Disney would do better with 4 colors than 3, since most families are groups of 4 there.

I know what you mean about the long wait for refills at the pool! We experienced that every time. I really wish they would put a refill station around the corner somewhere, like they have at SSR. Makes it much more convenient!

Did you have the do not disturb sign on your door while you swam? Seems like you gave mousekeeping ample time to enter your room if you didn't. Our mousekeeper at CSR, hit our room as soon as we left it each day. The one day we went over to the digsite for a few minutes to kill time, came back and she was already done with our room! Unfortunately, she stalked our room at checkout time too. From 9:30 to 11, she kept checking to see if we left yet.

Gotta love the cable system around here. A phone call and it can be all fixed by phone most times!

I'm sorry that you suffer disasters each trip as well. I don't recall any disasters last year, so maybe I'm just an "every other year" kind of girl. :confused3 (Since 2009 I got sun poisoning on our first park day.)

It was a nice relaxing day. :cloud9:

The chicken was awful. And since we arrived early for lunch, it was evident it was "left over".

Definitely next time! It's the perfect reason to go back.... "But I missed ... !!"

Sorry to hear all the cupcakes had chocolate in them. That's a bummer. :(

No, my day wasn't boring, but my writing would be since there wasn't much to say. "We got in the pool. We down down the slide. Repeat. Over and over and over." :lmao::rotfl2: I think we each went down that slide at least 50 times. I know DD went down it the most, as I'd take a break and float in the pool or play with DS. There was never more than a couple of people waiting, so we never had a line - unlike Sunday night, when there was usually a line (not long, but a line).

The fountains were pretty loud, so I figured you could hear them from the nearby rooms. Next time, I'll have to find out. :cloud9:

They may have been out of the yellow mugs. I was surprised to see black, as I heard it was pink, blue, and yellow. I read on another TR that they had all 4 colors available at another resort. :confused3

We only put the DND sign up at night, so that Mousekeeping wouldn't wake us up (and only Monday night). I think our room was one that was typically serviced later in the day. We were always gone by 9am, but we never returned until bedtime, so it was hard to tell what time they were coming. But we never saw them in the AM on our way to the bus. We didn't mind that our room wasn't serviced yet when we got back. When the Mousekeeping manager called, she offered for someone to come after 5pm. I agreed since we had an ADR at DTD and planned to shop.

I felt like I was calling my local cable company. :lmao:

So I am completely jealous of your "lazy day". I told DH that next trip we must include a day or 2 off in between park days. DH also wants to end our trip with a side trip to the beach too so we can get a little relaxing time in.

The resort looks so pretty, we were supposed to stay there back in 2002 but ended up going with AKL. Sorry about your food, those nachos did look delicious but you can even tell from the picture that the chicken was dry and DH's food looks awesome!

Can't wait for more!

I hope your eye got better quickly and wasn't anything too serious.

Also hoping our next family trip will be a longer stay... we've done 5 days and 5 1/2 days, and spent all our time in the parks. But I'd love to stay long enough to have a "lazy non-park day"!

I hadn't originally planned for a lazy day this year, but I decided that I did want some pool time and I couldn't figure out where to sacrifice for it, so I just made a day for it. I heard MANY great things about the pool at CSR and I wanted ample DTD time to see the new Lego store and for our ritual dinner at Wolfgang Pucks.

We had two last year, but they weren't really lazy days - we went to the WPs. I do wish we could have done that this year, but the pool was ample enough for me to not whine too much. :lmao:

The resort was absolutely stunning. I really regret not spending more time exploring it - but I was all about the parks and the pool. I never did find the quiet pool for Casitas. And we never explored the other fountains or themed areas. :(

And yes, it is visible in the pictures that the chicken was poor quality. But the nachos itself was YUM, so no big deal. :goodvibes

The eye story doesn't stop here. :(

I really wanted to extend our stay through the weekend, but we would have had to switch resorts and DH put his foot down, so we moved off-site. As much as I love the parks, I did enjoy having a non-park day. Part of it was also because if I didn't want to be lazy, I could have gone to a park and just upgrade my ticket for an extra day (and any kids who wanted to tag along). So it was nice to have options. :goodvibes But in sum, longer stays are nice to have the free day!

Pop Century only had the 3 colors, pink, blue, and black available too.

I wonder if they discontinued the yellow, or maybe it was just out of stock? :confused3

That is awful about your eye. I had something fly into mine once when doing the gardening and I don't ever want to feel that again!

I'm so glad you and your DD enjoyed the Jaguar Slide. I think it is great and, even at my age, continue to go down it.

Sorry about the chicken...that's not right. But glad you enjoyed the rest of your meal. And Mark loved the strawberry shortcake when he had it.

Yay you're here! I can't wait for your TR!

We arrived and it was a 5 minute wait, so we hopped the line. I never even considered Minnie being there ... We did get to see Minnie at Epcot and Chef Mickey's, so we didn't miss out :) The cupcake IS as delicious as it looks! :goodvibes I couldn't decide between the red velvet cheesecake and the butterfinger, but I just knew I would be so mad at myself if I got the cheesecake one and didn't like it because the butterfinger one looked SOOOO good! The only thing I didn't care for that much was the frosting underneath the butterfinger pieces, it was white butter cream and it was kind of greasy. Overall though it was still an awesome cupcake. I would definitely get it again.

Oh, no. That's not good!

I didn't let sun poisoning stop my fun in 2009, so I wasn't about to let my eye interfere. ;)

That is awful about your eye. I had something fly into mine once when doing the gardening and I don't ever want to feel that again!

It's a horrible pain, isn't it??!!

I think I loved it as much as she did! I went down it by myself a few times - just told DH to watch the kids and I was going to play on the slide. I have to confess, that slide was sooo much better than CBRs! I think it spoiled me. :guilty: :lmao:

I'm not stressing over chicken. lol I was fine with the nachos, cheese, sour cream, pico, etc. It was such a massive plate, and I was stuffed and it didn't make a dent. I just know next time to ask if the chicken is fresh, and if not, get Nachos without chicken. :thumbsup2

The Strawberry Shortcake was perfect for dessert that day! It was sweet and moist and refreshing. A perfect alternative for bypassing chocolate! :goodvibes

I really wished I had remembered. But we were so busy and running ourselves ragged. And we kept getting distracted (Oh, look! It's Ben again!) I remember passing Starring Rolls and thought to myself that I'd come back by, but it never happened. Then again, I dunno when I would have eaten the cupcake anyway. Next time!!!

But glad to hear it was awesome - even if it was a bit greasy.

We left off with having a lazy day and Mousekeeping wanting to know if we ever planned to leave the room so they could tidy up.

After we were all set to go to DTD for the evening, I asked DD if I could pull her hair up. DD hates having her hair pulled up, but I love to see her pretty face. She agreed, so I pulled up her hair into a a clip.

Disney2011pictures080.jpg

DS was playing on the bed. (Sorry, we're messy people.)

Disney2011pictures081.jpg

So we boarded a bus to visit DTD.

Disney2011pictures082.jpg

Disney2011pictures084.jpg

RFC had some birds out, so we stopped to look at them.

Disney2011pictures085.jpg

TK had insisted I check out the design your own ears store (I forget what it was called, but I spot it quickly). They didn't have my perfect ears.

Today's mission: Ear searching and souvenir shopping for neices and my parents

So no ears there. DD and DS had their own money they've saved up, so they were looking for new odds and ends as well.

We went into most stores at DTD. We skipped the big Disney store, as we'd hit it after dinner on our way back to the bus (I figured we'd make several purchases, and it was easier to carry it to the bus than to dinner).

We saw the new Lego displays. They were AMAZING!

There was a bird perched on the tooth. I had to take a picture of it. lol

After we browsed the new store and DS played with the cars outside, we kept walking. We went into the Vinylmation store and let the kids color. DD looked around and saw a bag she wanted, but didn't want to spend the money. I was just thankful to be indoors and off my feet (DS sat on my lap as he colored).

My eye was really starting to bother me and I was contemplating on seeking medical treatment for it. After the kids finished coloring, we browsed some more as we waited for our ADRs.

- continued next post -

I didn't think it was ever going to near an appropriate time to check in for our annual Wolfgang Puck dinner. We even went into the "design a car" store and browsed to kill time. I finally gave up on passing time, I was getting cranky over my eye and my legs were tired. I thought we'd check in early and hope to be seated sooner.

So we walked over to WGP's and checked in. They had a table available for us and lead us straight to it.

I was sad to see they changed the menu. The server asked if any food allergies and I said that DD had an intolerance to milk. I kept waiting for a chef to come and go over DD's food options, but it never happened. She wanted the burgers (without cheese), and DS had the fish.

I was looking over the menu and really disappointed. I couldn't decide what I wanted, so I settled on a meal. I was thinking to myself that I hoped DH didn't want to come back next year, because I wasn't sure what I was going to eat if he did.

So we finish ordering and our food comes out. I was soo hungry and it looked soo good ....

I had the Macadamia Nut Crusted Breast of Chicken.

Disney2011pictures107.jpg

Looks good, doesn't it? Oh ... wait ... I forgot to get a picture of it before I devoured it. :sad2: I rarely belong to a "clean plate club". So this was another milestone for me. lol

DH enjoyed his food too. He had the Grilled Flat Iron Steak with Maytag Blue Cheese Butter.

Disney2011pictures108.jpg

Delicious looking, huh? :lmao:

Then there's DS's fish.

Disney2011pictures109.jpg

And DD ate one of her burgers.

Disney2011pictures110.jpg

So the server comes back for dessert orders. He was miffed they did not have the Creme Brulee Cheesecake on the menu. It was what he was looking forward to the most.

Instead we had the Sugarfree Cheesecake Mousse.

Disney2011pictures111.jpg

I .... didn't like it at all. I don't think adding sugar to it would have helped. It had an odd flavor (and I typically love SF things), and I never tasted any "cheesecake" flavoring. The berries were good.

DH had the Florida Key Lime Pie. It was YUMMY!

Disney2011pictures112.jpg

Since DD can't have ice cream and that was the only option listed for kids, I asked the server if she could have a cup of fruit or something instead. He brought her a cup of berries - her favorite! And since she saw me taking pics of everything, she asked if she could take her own.

Disney2011pictures113.jpg

Forgive me for stuffing my face in the background. :lmao: And I'm looking at this now, can you see my red, puffy eye? Its barely noticeable, but you can tell its not white like the other and its a bit puffy. Ugh! (It's my right eye, the one above my hand thats stuffing my face. lol)

After dinner, we went back to make purchases we wanted and to hit the big Disney store. By this time, it was absolutely PACKED. You couldn't move in the Disney store without bumping someone. It was miserable, so we paid for what we had in our basket and left. The streets were pretty packed, too. I don't know if that was normal for a Tuesday, or if there was something happening.

We did visit another store ... was it called Once Upon A Toy?

DH had seen a hat there he wanted earlier that day. After we finished shopping, we went back to the bus station. We had just missed the CSR bus. It wasn't a long wait at all for the next one. I was thankful as there was no where to sit, and my eye was driving me crazy.

Here's pics of our loot:

DH's new hat. (He forgot to bring a hat, and his head was sunburned - with sunscreen being applied.) Plus, he couldn't resist. Even if he brought a hat, he would have made this purchase anyways.

Disney2011pictures114.jpg

Minnie Pook-a-looz for my neices!

Disney2011pictures116.jpg

A new keychain (its purple, but looks blue in pic) and antenna topper for me. Sadly, I can't get the antenna topper on, so its just sitting on my table. :(

Disney2011pictures117.jpg

Sister got new Mickey ears. It had the Mickey heads embroidered all over the hat. I think there was 7 or 8 Mickeys on it in all.

Disney2011pictures118.jpg

jomickeyears.jpg

kidsears.jpg

DD also made her own purchases with her money. She wanted a Thumper plush and a new water bottle for the upcoming school year.

Disney2011pictures120.jpg

At this point, I was frustrated with my eye. I was tired, my legs were in pain, and I hated the blisters. What else could go wrong? But we had a great day. We had a lazy morning and we were ready for sleep. I set the alarm on my phone so I'd wake up early the next day. We had to get back in the parks!

So that concludes our Day 2 adventures.

Stay tuned for ... Magic Kingdom: Is it truly magical?

Another great update, aren't those Legos amazing? I love the Maleficent one! I've heard such great things about WGP but I don't think we could eat anywhere else but EOS there in DTD. My DH even went back and got sandwiches to take back to our room for snacks, lol.

It is always disappointing when you go back to a fav restaurant and they have changed the menu.

I hope your eye starts to feel better!

Nice!! I love EoS as well, but for a TS credit, its WGP. Plus, its a ritual that we eat there. We've been every trip, and its the ONLY place DH ever requests. But for a CS credit, EoS all the way baby! :woohoo:

Guess you'll have to stay tuned to find out whether or not I get to enjoy a meal at EoS this year. :(

(And EoS for snacks, that's my kind of guy! lol)

Great update!

I'm sorry your eye was still bothering you, and you had to wait around to check in. Waiting in Disney is my least favorite thing to do. I was seriously LOL-ing at your pictures. The meals must've been tasty if you cleaned your plates. We ate at WP on our honeymoon, and haven't been back since if that tells you anything. I wish we would've known that we could've eaten at WPE and used a CS credit instead of wasting a TS on WP. I can't believe they didn't offer your DD anything for dessert that was dairy free before you asked!

Hopefully your eye and your blisters didn't bother you for much longer, or caused your MK day to be less than magical!

It is always disappointing when you go back to a fav restaurant and they have changed the menu.

I hope your eye starts to feel better!

It's very disappointing. But I was pleased with what I had, so it won't stop us from going back. I guess it was their way of telling us to quit ordering the same darn things. :lmao: WGP is still our #1 favorite restaurant on property. And I think it will always be a ritual for us. I just hope it stays on the DDP.

Thank you.
