May 2008 code watch

I booked air last month. Couldn't "risk" air prices going up again, so I got 4 round trip tickets from Atlantic City to Orlando for under $800 (with luggage fees, and all taxes).

Of course, I could gamble and get it cheaper, but I'd rather check it off my list than only be able to get 2 seats on this flight and 2 more on another....

? To my fellow May travelers:
Have you booked airfare yet?
I'm booking tonight:cool1: are most people waiting for discounts/codes to come out? We leave April 30th which is only about 2 1/2 mths away and airfare by us is at a good price around 230$ with taxes round trip. I hope some discounts do come out because DH wants to stay off property and I don't. Either way will be there april 30th through May 11th

I had my reservation at Pop with a AAA discount booked when I knew the "approximate" dates I wanted to travel. I booked Sat May 3 to Sat May 10 but then when Jet Blue opened up their schedule for May it was a lot cheaper to fly on Sun May 4th and Disney now charges a premium for Sat & Fri nights so I dropped that one night from my trip. Those flights I booked are now more than double in price. I'm OK with my AAA discount but would love an AP discount.

At the same time I also booked flights for a trip in August. I have ASMu family suites booked at a AAA discount (have had that since they opened AAA discounts for 2008) and really don't think I'm going to beat that one. I could have booked with a bounce back when I was there in January but it wasn't available at ASMu family suites. Those flights haven't changed since I booked them.

Hope you get to stay onsite!

flights for DH and I are not booked but we know we are flying SWA, what flight we want, etc. friend has her flight booked.

yep got my tix from ABE - MCO months ago $210pp rt; rest of the family got theirs from Newark this past December for ~169pp rt.

As it turns out, DL has already changes aircraft (to a smaller plane) from MCO to Cincinnati so right away the availability of choice seats has shrunk.

With the cost of jet fuel on the same trajectory as heating oil and gas, I figure the price will only GO UP. Besides, the airlines are cramming more people in smaller planes so buy now to ensure you get the best flight times (the cheaper flights leave before dawn or after sunset so you'll need to pay more for flights that leave at reasonable hours).

oops - I must be pyschic or something - read this breaking news about airfares - only going one way UP UP UP. http://www.smartmoney.com/dealoftheday/index.cfm?story=20080206-flight-delays&afl=myyahoo

Thanks for the artical

My wife and I are booked to stay at CSR from May 16th-May 25th. Any chance of getting a code??? I'm new at this.

AND, having the AP allows you to buy the DDE card for $60. The card gives you 20% off on food and drinks, including alcohol, at a ton of restaurants. If you're going for 10 days, you're going to be spending money on food a WDW - it doesn't take long to make your money back (spend 300 bucks on food - 20% of that is 60 bucks).

But remember that if you are using the DDE you will get an 18% gratuity automatically added to your bill so you are basically only saving 2%.

No, assuming you are going to tip anyway. You still save the full 20% unless you plan on not tipping at all or tipping less than 18%. Only then does the tip effect the discount.

We booked three of the 4 air tickets before I booked the package. I am 1 credit away from a free flight through SW, that I have to wait to earn it and then I will book DH's ticket! If not, maybe just me and the kids will go without him. :lmao:

I booked yesterday for May3-8th. If a code does in fact come out can I add it to my already exsisting reservation? I hope so!

Ready for those codes to come out!!

As long as the discount is available at the resort you booked your current reservation. Most of the time they rebook with the code and cancel your old reservation.

As far as timing goes it should be real soon. I booked our mid May trip last year (2007) Feb. 23, 2007 at a code rate for AKL. Hoping there's one for SSR this time around. Really want to go for the Minnie Marathon weekend in early May.:)

But remember that if you are using the DDE you will get an 18% gratuity automatically added to your bill so you are basically only saving 2%.

That's incorrect. If you normally tip at least 18% which we usually do, you're still saving 20%. The tip is now included as opposed to adding it after the discount.

Now if you're only wanting to tip 15% (which we've barely ever done because "usually" Disney service is good enough for 18-20%, sometimes even better), then you'd be saving 17% in those cases. ;)

I don't see how you are still saving 20% and here is my train of thought...

You total bill is for $100. The DDE discount is $20, the automatic gratuity (regardless of party size) is 18% and added on (gratuity would be $18 on a $100 total). So you take the $100 less the $20 and then add the $18 which then brings your total bill to $98. Without the DDE your bill would be $118, with the DDE it is $98 which is a savings of 17%.

Ok... I see where you are still saving a good bit and I'll admit that I didn't actually see it until I typed it all out. Doh!

I :worship: to those making me see the error of my train (wreck) of thought.

We didn't find the DDE to be worth it for our family when I bought an AP a few years ago (we're not foodies) -- but did find the AP worth it for the room discount. Allears and mousesavers show which places take the DDE, so best to run the numbers yourself.:wizard:

Forgive me for asking these questions, that are probably common sense.... this is the first trip we are booking ourselves.. and being only 21, I have no sense of how vacation planning really works.

How exactly do these codes and discounts work?? I keep hearing "AP" discount, what does this mean?

Here is my sitauation, and maybe someone can walk me through what I can do in regards to getting some better deals. ... We (me, DBF, and DBFF) have already booked our vacation package. We are going from May 27th- June 5th. We are staying at Coronado Springs Resort, with a 10 day park hopper, dinning plan, and have already purchased plane tickets. We didn't use a travel agent-- just booked everything on the Disney website. We are on the payment plan type thing, where we just have to pay everything off by April 12, so the entire trip has not yet been paid in full. Do we have any ways of saving any money?? Like I said, I have no idea how these rates and codes and discounts work. I didn't know how it works if we just booked through the website and what, if any, codes can be applied.

I guess what I'm asking for is a experienced Disney mentor :) If anyone is willing to take me under their wing and walk me through these codes and the possibility of saving any money, I would definitly appreciate it!!

Also, I'm sure someone has posted this somewhere already, but I got this in my email: http://www.unitedvacations.com/deals/specials.asp?SpecialID=3wdwgift

about getting a $100 or $200 Disney gift card when booking your vacation, depending on what resort you're staying at. If I call and ask about this, will they still be able to apply it, even though I have booked already?

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

AP discount stands for annual passholder rates. They discount some of the rooms for annual passholders through out the year. only we never really know when we are going to get them

AAA rate is just rooms /packages booked through triple A If anyone in you party has AAA you can book the vacation through them My parents got 15% off this next trip with a package. I have an annual pass so my room is booked though AAA right now but waiting to see if a AP rate is cheaper.

My sister joined AAA right before her last vaca since it saved them some $$$$ on the trip and it is a good thing to have anyway hope this helps
