May 2, 2009~~~Magical MAYniacs!~~~ 7 day Western....Updated, April 3,2009!!

Well folks....what are your thoughts? Do you think that we will end up in Cozumel? What about this crazy swine flu?
Maybe I'm too trusting, but I do believe that if Disney believes there's a strong possibility of contagion, we won't be stopping. Right now, I believe it's fairly far west of Cozumel (well, except for NYC).

One of the threads on the main board is reporting that Earth is playing on the DCL ships.

Good news! I'd like to see it.

This situation concerns me a great deal. Since 7am yesterday morning the new news stories off the AP etc, have increased the number of reported cases every hour.

As I leave on Saturday for the 7 night western. I am in no way looking forward to stopping in Cozumel. I just don't think it's worth the potential risk. Illness tends to spread on a cruise ship very fast. I don't even want to run the risk of staying on board and getting ill from the folks that get back on at days end.

I would encourage everyone traveling soon with itineraries that have stops in Mexico to phone / e-mail DCL and voice your concern. There are plenty of other ports / places to go to instead.
:scared1:

Other Ships in Port on our May 2 – 9, 2009 Cruise:

May 2: Port Canaveral - Carnival Glory, Disney Magic
May 3: Key West - Disney Magic (JUST US!!)
May 4: At Sea
May 5: Grand Cayman - Carnival Legend, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Valor, Disney Magic
May 6: Cozumel - Carnival Imagination, Carnival Legend, Holiday, Disney Magic
May 7: At Sea
May 8: Castaway Cay
May 9: Port Canaveral - Carnival Glory, Disney Magic

I too am concerned, BUT........if you do go to another port you will be mingling with other ships that possibly have been to Mexico. I am not sure how everyone can stay away from that.

It is true that for now at least, this strain of flu is not in the Cozumel area. Personally, I plan to eat lots of fruits and veggies, wash my hands a lot and stick to bottled water or water from the ship's tap. Hopefully the media will not cause mass panic over this, because the truth is that even if you contract this strain, there is every chance for a complete recovery. It seems very possible the media is forgetting to add that the people who have died from this most likely had compromised immune systems to begin with, or they may be from poverty stricken areas where infection control/awareness is limited. I don't mean to sound nonchalant about it, but I really hope this doesn't diminish anyones excitement about the cruise!
I also tend to agree with Pink Elephants-If Disney feels there is a true, urgent health threat, we just won't stop there.

By the way, Laura, how was the big party?!?:banana::banana::banana:

How was that big party? I was shocked to see that you were up so early!!

Still sending out love for the Pixie Dust for Palos!!! I know with all my heart that you will get a ressie!!! Pixie Dust heading your way!!

We will all keep an eye out on the CDC news. Clorax wipes and lysol in the FE's!!

Just called DCL....they advised that they are monitoring the situation with the CDC and WHO; at this time there is no reason to divert from Cozumel. There have been no reported cases in resort areas....however, if anything changes they will re-route. They advised that they will not do anything to jeapordize the safety of the passengers.:sick:

I bet you they are just swamped with calls. I too believe that DCL wil make the right decisions.

Absolutely. I hate to be the realist (and the optimist) here, but if Disney feels it might open itself to liability (there's a huge duty recognized in law on ships to insure the safety of their passengers) we will not be stopping in Cozumel.

Which of course makes me a little sad, since the excursion I'm most looking forward to is our one in Cozumel. Still, I'd rather be safe than sick.

Laura, I'm glad the party was great!

I think that Disney is going to put a block on my phone number.....has anyone ever been arrested for stalking the DCL phone reservation CM's?

I did however confirm that EARTH is playing on the ship.

Does anyone know what contact info to leave in case someone needs to contact me on the ship? I don't plan to check e-mail daily, and I need to leave contact info for my dog-sitter.

Thanks!
Dorie

OK, as you all will see, I still have some shopping to do for the FEs. In order to get organized (and to make sure that I don't give a nine year old boy a princess coloring book :scared1:) I put together this list.

OK everyone! Laura001 pointed out that I made a mistake! The 6 year old should be a boy. Here is the corrected list.

Adults = 19

Boys by age (total 8)
3 = 1
4 = 1
5 = 2
6 = 1
7 = 1
9 = 2

Girls by age (total 3)
3 = 1
10=1
13 = 1

Okay! Just read that the girls in New York City were in Cancun two weeks ago for Spring break......

Also, I am wondering if I should cancel my dolphin swim now...I did not purchase the insurance!!!:sad1::confused3:confused3

OK, I am confused. The name listed for the only 6 year old in the FE is Mara. Is Mara a boy or girl? Or do we just have a typo? Please don't kill me. I am just a confused older guy.

I believe that if you read page 81, AK lists Mara as being her son. Hopefully if AK is around she can correct us if we are wrong.

I also read about the girls going to Cancun and getting the swine flu. I for one would NOT be disappointed if we did not stop in Mexico. :scared: :scared1: Another day at sea would be great! What are the chances they would make a second stop at Castaway Cay?:idea:
I am packing now and have all of the families clothes all over the bed.....getting a bit overwhelmed! But of course also getting EXCITED!!!!!:dance3::yay:
Wish I did not have to work this week....

Hi everyone! Remember me?! Our famliy was booked to sail with you but we had to change our plans due to step-DD's graduation...

We ended up sailing the Magic on the Eastern itinerary on April 11th and I just wanted you guys to know (if you haven't already sailed with Disney) that you are in for an AWESOME trip! I know you will be doing the Western tour, but I'm just talking about the ship, the people, the shows, etc...all I can say is WOW!

Our DD 7 had the best time in the kids club. DH and I got to have both brunch and dinner in Palo. The room was comfortable and I think we all slept better than we have in a long time. The cruise also ended up being timed well for us to surprise DD with it for her birthday but only have to wait a couple weeks to go...she was so excited and had such fun - she says if she had to choose between WDW or a Disney cruise again she would definitely pick the cruise...so now I've got to start saving again!!!

I hope all of you have a Magical time on your vacation!!
