May 19 - 24, 2014 San Diego to Vancouver

Hi everyone

My Hubby & I are taking this cruise and it's our first! I am so excited and was wondering if you can give me the ins and outs of it. Example...the FE, door decorations and little tips. Hope to be able to meet some of you !

Welcome to both of you.

Not sure what information you might be looking for...

FE--you want to know what it is or what our guideliens are going to be? Kew can fill you in on that as she is heading it up. There is a link to the signup on the first page.

Door Decorations - must be magnet, no tape or other adhesive

Ask away with what you might want to know. There are some experienced cruisers on this sailing. :goodvibes

Has everyone seen that DCL has announced that you cannot use the over the door shoe holder things in the rooms--at least not one that has a hook over the door. There are problems with scratches to the paint job and supposedly they will impose fines if anyone uses them. This was announced a couple of weeks ago, but I thought it worth mentioning here.

Won't affect me as space isn't an issue for just the two of us, but I know lots of people really like using them.

Hi everyone!

Hubby & I are going on our first cruise in May and I am so dang excited:cheer2::cheer2:

I do need some info though on the FE, etc.. how it works, what do you do? how many trinkets? Is it done every night of the cruise?

Is there a page to go to for info?

thanks in advancepixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

Hi Kristen, Cinderelly516 is my wife Amy. As much as I wish I could afford my own cabin, I'll unfortunately have to share one with my family. ;) Can you group us as one?

I read this but thanks for posting it for all of us. It will be a good reminder as we have been using one for years. We always run out of space and will need to get creative. Our holder has hooks that can also be used on the rod in the closet so we can hopefully get by with this for our toiletries.

Hi Debbie,

There are posts out there describing how it works but it can vary so we can really do whatever we decide as a group. You basically just need something to hang over the fish mail slot next to your door. I think ours has three 8" x 8" pockets but I've seen bigger and smaller. Many people get creative and decorate their FEs. Ours is just one of the original FE's given out on the 2005 Panama Canal Repo cruise by a fellow cruisemate.

Most people just bring one gift per cabin which is often a goody bag full of assorted items themed to the cruise or one or more ports of call. Some things we have seen were tropical or pirate. Some people brought things unique to the part of the country they were from.

You can search the boards and find a lot of neat ideas. Some things are crafty, some are store bought, some are food, some have our group's logo and name/date. I still have no idea what we are going to do!

A lot of people will do a little something extra for kids in the cabin. Kids love things like stickers, tattoos, glowsticks, etc. Basically, anything you can find form Oriental Trading Co or the Dollar Store. We try to make the kids' gifts age and gender-appropriate. They don't cost very much and the kids love them.

We try to give out our gifts at one time so we aren't having to worry about it every day. I print up nice maps with everyone's cabin numbers highlighted including screen names and the ages and genders of any kids in the cabin. I will have copies available if anyone here wants them too. This makes it so we can plot a good course around the ship and get them done in an hour or two.

People usually stagger when they give out their gifts which is nice as we tend to receive gifts almost every night except the last night. Some have timed giving out their gifts to be on a specific night like Pirate night, or the first night if it is something useful for the sailaway party.

It's entirely up to you how you want to do it though. It can feel like a lot of work to organize everything but it's so much fun to set it all up and to exchange once on board. My daughter goes crazy when we are walking down the hall and see a surprise in our FE!

There is one other family I put on the list, they are friends of mine that are sailing. I keep encouraging her to join this board.

If your name isn't listed then I didn't get an email from you or it was in my junk email and I missed it, if this is the case please resend.

Thanks,
Kristen

Hi Kristen, I sent you 2 emails in the past couple days to add my daughter and I to the FE. Did you get them? If not, please PM me and I will get you the information right away! :cool1:

For all the new folks: don't forget to email me the info needed to be on the FE list. The information is on the first page.

K.

Just sent the email! :cool1: Our 4th cruise but first time participating in the FE fun!! Ages in the email reflect ages at time of sailing. :cheer2: Thanks so much for adding us!!

I do have you grouped as one on my spreadsheet but wanted to make sure everyone was accounted for on this list. When we get closer I will send the spreadsheet to everyone.

Thanks Kristen, I was just making sure as I read there were seven families and then saw seven screen names. Thanks again for tracking all of this for everyone!

OK, I had someone PM me and ask about the "wordie", I think they called it. I referred them to the website and she wrote back that she could not find a Mickey Head to use on the site. Jessica, do you know if there is a a Mickey Head shape available for people to make their own? I wasn't sure what to tell her. Would your friend share the Mickey or no?

And, please, do tell your friend that I appreciate what they created for us. It makes me smile everytime I see my signature. I plan to print it out and make a magnet for my cabin door as well.

I love this!

Hi everyone! This will be our second time cruising, and our second time on the Wonder! This is a SURPRISE trip for my daughter Kaitlyn, who will be graduating from Arizona State University the week before, and then celebrating her 22nd birthday onboard! I have NO IDEA how I am going to keep this a secret for 12 whole months, but I am going to do my darndest! :rotfl:

Cruisers will be-

Me, Amy, 44yo when we sail, and
DD Kaitlyn, 21yo turning 22yo onboard princess:

Excited to start planning our trip and our FE gifts! :cool1:

Hi
Can you email me at kew423@msn.com with your info for the FEs? Please see the first page of this forum to know what the questions are. Thanks!

If we're unsure if we're participating in the FE (I graduate the Thursday before we sail, so I'm thinking my brain might be mush then), am I better off holding a spot then cancelling?
