May 18, 2013 MAGIC EBTA - Who is with us?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if there is anyone on the board that is doing the Disney transportation and staying at the airport hotel on Friday? When we changed our flight they said that the block of their rooms were full at the hotel so it sounds like there should be a few.

My parents didn't do the Disney hotel, but they are staying at the Sheraton North Houston at George Bush Intercontinental on that Friday, and then they're going back to the airport to pick up Disney transportation there. We got it for points.

Can I just ask what they are planning on doing for a week in Southampton?

My mother is a knitter, and she's looking for other knitters on her board who live in the area, and might offer suggestions. I know they want to see the Solent Sky Museum (my father is a retired history instructor, and a WWII aviation buff). As to the rest, they figure they'll check it out when they get there. They also might take the train to some neighboring areas.

Now we are tring to figure out what to do for the FE gifts and dreaming about all the wonderful sea days!!

We are staying using Disney transportation and staying at the IAH Marriott. We did not book the hotel through Disney, I got a great AAA rate that includes breakfast. Our TA added Disney transfers for us from the hotel to the port the morning of the cruise.

Wow this seems to be a great trip they're going to enjoy it

Sounds lovely.

That sounds wonderful.

Thanks. They have put off a lot of their retirement dreams to help us raise our daughter, who was born with autism and CP (She, by the way, turned out great, earning a high school diploma at 16, and starting an early college program. She had a tough go of it, but she's a tough kid).

About the time it looked like things were going to be okay, I was diagnosed with cancer and my husband was diagnosed with a serious coronary problem. I have to go in for a PET/CT this Monday, and I hope nothing jinxes it. My folks deserve a chance to do something special. Crossing my fingers for no new surgery, or at least that it's done by May.

Well, my folks have finally decided how they're going to do their trip. It's a beaut, and I'm so jealous.

They're not only taking the EBTA, they're going to take another cruise out of Barcelona a few days later, and see France, Italy, Turkey, and Greece, ending up in Venice.

Then they're going to fly over to London, take the train to Southampton, and spend a week there, before taking the Queen Mary 2 to New York City, which they've never seen.

Finally, they're going to fly home. It's going to take a month and a half, but it's going to be a great trip!

Wow!! What a fabulous adventure!:goodvibes

We were on the EBPC with you. pixiedust: We met on Deck 4 when we were going through the locks. Which of one of you sisters is the tall, artsy one? I was attempting to explain things to her as we were going through the lock.

I understand exactly what you are saying about loving a 14 day cruise, so I decided to check into the TA meet thread! One can always dream! I flipped to the last page of the thread, so I haven't read anything else. I guess I need to find out if airfare from Barcelona to Las Vegas will be put us over the top budget-wise. Any input on the best airfare?

A bunch of us are using Iceland Air to get back to North America and then whatever more local carrier for the last leg.

My fingers are crossed for you too. I know how tough it can be but that sounds extra special tough. pixiedust:

Thanks! I'lll check it out. Does that mean that Iceland Air flies from Barcelona to USA? Or do you layover in Iceland?

DS and his girlfriend are thinking of booking this cruise. They are in their early 20's. I am just putting together a budget for them and I have a few questions that may have already be answered, but hoping that someone does not mind answering them.

1. what is the cost for Disney transportation from Houston Airport (Marriott Hotel) to Port?
2. What are the temperatures after you leave CC and arrive in Madeira?

We just got off the EBPC cruise and enjoyed the 14 day cruise so much that we are looking into this cruise. I just need to talk DH into it! He is slowly coming around. If all goes as planned, our traveling party will be:
DH and I-Michael and Emily, in our very early 30's with no kids, my 5th Disney cruise and his 4th.
My older sister and her two kids: Corinne, Luke (10) and Lucie (6), their 5th Disney cruise.
My younger sister and her two kids: Jamie, Cecilia (3) and soon to be born Clara; their first Disney cruise
And
My Mother: her first Disney cruise.

I will post again when it is offical! I will try and start reading through the whole thread.
Hey Emily - if you convince DH - he can speak computer talk with my son and his girlfriend. They are in college taking a programming analyst course.

Does anyone have any car services they've used/been happy with in Barcelona? My folks will probably take public transit once they're there, but they'll need to get a transfer from the port to the Four Points Barcelona Diagonal.

OMG, I am SO jealous! This will be FABULOUS!!! :goodvibes

I can't wait to hear more about it! :thumbsup2

Bless you all, sending pixie dust pixiedust: for a clean Pet scan!

It would be awesome to hear the stories too :goodvibes

Thanks. We're hoping for the best on this one.

The trip is really going to be fabulous. They're really looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to seeing all the pictures!

That sounds cool, I'm so sorry, I hope my previous post didn't come across as rude, just that I am from the UK and wondered if there was any special draw to Southampton instead of London or other countryside areas :)

Best of luck for Monday! Fingers crossed that everything will be OK. x

Actually, it's a little more complicated than that unfortunately. Iceland Air seems to do the typical code sharing that everyone does so you could buy a flight from Barcelona from them. But, I found those prices to be more expensive. The good price point that I found (but you might have a different experience) is from London to Halifax, Canada. The tickets were about 25% of Air Canada flights. The key to Iceland Air is that all their flights travel through Iceland. ie London->Iceland->Halifax. I think they had 6-8 US locations they fly direct from. You can even stopever in Iceland for no extra cost - but I'm not going that route (others are).

So, yes, I'm finding my way to London for a few days after Barcelona. Haven't really figured that one out but European carriers are so much cheaper than North American.

Good luck.
