Checked the forecast for the week of May 15. Sunny.
However, the one I really rely on - Accuweather - says rain!
Ponchos, umbrellas...

BUT what do you do if you're renting a scooter?
Any suugestions?

It rained buckets when we were there and I was having to use a scooter. My suggestions are:
1. Have a Shower cap to place over the controls so they don't get wet or you won't be able to move the scooter!
2. And, have an extra poncho for your lap or perhaps not just the Dollar store ones :) I had on a dollar store poncho and it wasn't long enough to cover my lap too, needless to say my legs were quite drenched;)

Have fun!

Oh no! I'll be there that whole time...I never thought about how to cover myself in the rain with a wheelchair (my first time having to travel with one). I can imagine me now hitting my poor DH over and over with an umbrella...how do you keep the ponchos out of the way of the wheels?

Great thread! Im going to be there Wed 11 to 22nd, and first few days great but yes, accuweather calling for rain for rest of the week BOOOO!

I got soaked my last time in torrential rains in EPCOT and had to buy clothes at the store, that was not cheap.

Love the idea of the extra poncho for the legs (Thank you!), I am also going to bring a change of clothes and put them in a locker.

DH will have to fend for himself! :rotfl:

I may also see if i can get a sun screen for my scooter...

1. Don't worry about long-range (more than five day) forecasts for the Orlando area. They are wrong!

2. I've noticed that four of the next ten days are showing "Isolated Thundershowers". This means that for some periods in the afternoon there is a possibility of rain where you are, and usually lasting no more than 30 minutes.

3. When I am on my ECV in the park and it starts to rain I will put on a poncho. The back of it will go over the back of the seat, keeping my body and the seat dry. I will keep the front of the poncho over the handlebars, holding the poncho and one handlebar with one hand and the other hand under the poncho. Basically all that will get wet is my lower legs and feet.

4. If you look at a forecast and it says 60% chance of rain, and then look at the hourly, you will see that there is one or two hours during the day where the chance of rain is as high as 60%, but usually it is at 10% or less. It is the highest chance at any time during the day that is shown as the daily chance of rain.

I usually put one poncho over teh seat of my wheelchair and one over me - between the two, i keep fairly dry!

Thanks for the encouraging words. Talked to DW about it and she's giving it a go! I guess it all has to do with attitude. I'll go to Walmart this weekend and get the ponchos. We're waiting til we get to Florida to get some souvenir (sp?) umbrellas.

Just like CF said, anything past the 3 day forecast, and it's not very accurate. This time of year they will call for afternoon rains just about every day, but in reality, we've only had maybe one day of rain in the past 2 weeks. So I'd just wait until it gets closer. It's been HOT and humid here.

I am freaking out about the rain too. This will be my 1st time needing to use a ECV. My problem is I need to keep my left leg dry at all times..... Thinking maybe garbage bags and duc tape :lmao: we arrive this Saturday for 10 days. any better suggestions would be great....

I was in Florida for one whole week one yr and LOCAL weatherman kept talking about the rain in my area was awful and rain really coming down. This went on most of the day. Out the sliding glass was BEAUTIFUL sunshine!!! I was on the beach BTW. :confused3:confused3:confused3

Thank you this is a great idea.... We will take some with us. Maybe I can still go on Splash Mountain and stay dry in the rain
Thanks so much!!!!!

I look now at the weather forceast and just possible thunderstorms in the early part. Accuweather got me alarmed for nothing! :badpc:

Just got off the phone with the hotel and they say it's been dry there and they expect 20-30% chance of rain. Oh well, me getz some ponchos anyway but I'm encouraged! :cool1:

Yep, just the afternoon thundershowers, and they're not even everywhere. Don't worry about it, and keep in mind only 3 days out is the weather accurate. It's been HOT here too, so make sure you stay hydrated!!!

Thanks, bouncycat! Coming from Arizona, that will not be a big task. After we check in, we'll be going to the store for a case or so of water. And will get the sunscreen.
Much fun for you too; hope your weather is even better . . . hey I like that . . . just stick to - better weather...:rotfl:

Whether your weather is better depends on whether you're better weather is when you're together! ;)

If you have your own scooter, I highly recommend getting a tiller cover for it. I have one that has elastic on the bottom to keep it on, 2 cuffs to put my hands through to the controls, and a clear plastic top to protect the controls. It works great! I just keep it in the pouch on the back of my seat at all times so that I always have it with me.
