~~~ May 16, 2009 ~~~ Western Magic ~~~
I guess it is time to jump in here to introduce ourselves... I am Carole (58) and my husband is Bob (59). Please no jokes about "Carole, Ted, Bob, and Alice"... That one got old a long time ago.;)
I am not sure what you want to know... My husband is a relucant cruiser however in order to not be the only one in the family going, he has decided to join us. He is convinced he will not have a good time. I am confident he will but am keeping my fingers crossed anyway...
That was my mom ;)
What's with the Carole, Ted, Bob and Alice thing.... I've never heard that & you guys are MY parents. lol
It's not so much that my dad is not into cruising, it's that he is convened that he is going to be seasick the whole time. :sick:
I get motion sick and I know that after day 2, i'm good to go. I don't even do roller coasters. My dad has no issues with roller coasters so I'm sure he'll be fine.
I guess since mom didn't tell you much, I'll have to fill in the blanks.
My mom: LOVES genealogy (family history). This woman tortured her kids by taking us to old courthouses, libraries, and grave yards for years. lol My mom also LOVES Christmas and Christmas music (or music in general, really). So much that she & my dad opened a Christmas shop & tree farm this year.
My dad: He's a bit of a jack of all trades. He worked for the telecommunications companies for years (along with his many other random HS jobs) & now owns his own Handyman Company to keep him busy in retirement.
They both love movies, good food, their family, and are total givers. They are currently working on collecting items from freecycle to take to a less fortunate part of Southern Virginia & distribute to those who really need it. My mother's & father's true dream would be to operate a small "store" for people to donate toys, etc for parents who can't afford presents to "shop" for their children at Christmas. They really are parents to all...just ask any of my friends.
Morning all!
Well, mom's reservation and mine both say main dining!
For those who want to link up - It used to be you could deal with DCL directly - we had one half of the dining room in early dining taking up the tables one cruise - if you want to link I can send the request through Dreams to put people together, I figure my family and mom and sis are 6, so we'll probably just take our own table, but would love the tables all around us to be DIS'ers! It makes it a lot of fun to go visit and easier to check out other food dishes!
I can't believe how close this is getting, I am hoping to run a few pounds off before buying any new clothes.
Good Morning Everyone!
Carol -- Welcome to the Board!!!! My DH was not overly thrilled about cruising again (our last one on RCCL was a DISASTER) but I got it in my head and so here we go!
As for seasickness -- on our one and ony cruise, I was in my first trimester so queasy there but took something (can't remember now) and didn't really suffer. I am very sensitive to motion (no swirly rides for me) but think if you take the meds ahead of time and then on the cruise you are good to go!
Lilygator -- I think y'all (sorry, this is my way to spell it -- maybe it is a Texas thing about misspelling the word?) are going to be on early dining. It is beginning to look like me and DH (and sometimes the kids) will have late dining all by our lonesome! I thought about switching just to be with all the DIS'ers BUT still think (knowing our family) we need the extra time and will never make an early dinner. Anyone who wants to link up with late dining -- let us know!
I bought part of my FE gifts this morning! Woo Hoo! Still need to order that FE but still a bit unsure. Also thinking of ordering a basket for the kids. Have you guys ever ordered one from Shirley?
Alright -- LOTS of work today and if I have free time I should probably spend it on the wii fit or out walking -- not surfing the web. ;)
Have a good day!
Shirley does great work and then you'll have a sand pail to use. We've bought from her every single cruise!
Who is Shirley and what does she do? Does she have a website? I was going to order the champagne bucket with the DCL robes in it for when we get to the room as a surprise, but I am open to all ideas!
I know lots of people have ordered from oriental Trading and all...
Just wondering what people have gotten so we don't end up with everyone buying the same things....
If we ALL bring pirate stickers, that might be a bit much, lol
Good Morning Everyone!
Evening all!
Got a photo of my FE today (sorry I'm a bit uncreative so had to buy one rather than make my own) - I am so happy with it!!
If you see it hanging up feel free to stuff it full of Reece's Pieces - I have me a serious addiction to those, and there is only one store in the Uk where you can get them!!
I got my FE gifts today! And not a pirate sticker amongst them!
I am having a very productive evening convincing DH to re-book on board!! Has anyone doen that? Can you only do it at certain times / days in the cruise?
We did last time (for this one!) and might rebook again. The booking desk is only open certain times (noted in the Navigator, I think, or else just on a sign at the booking desk), and you can also send a request to have the booking agent get it started for you so you don't have to do as much when you actually talk to her. The lines can get kind of long, though. The earlier in the week that you go, the less busy it is. We waited until either Thurs or Fri, and I had it on my plan for the day to be there when she started. Of course, a line had started to form already when I got there (before she got there), but I didn't have to wait too long. By the time I was done, though, it was getting busy!
Note to Self: Reeses Pieces...Phone Home... (ET for those who don't know.)
BTW My FE gifts will not be coming from Oriental Trading, so you don't have to worry about me. I'm trying to do something useful and cool...if I can pull it off!
Your FE is beautiful! I think ours is going to be "Pooh" themed as well, but I asked the lady to be creative so we'll see... Adam likes Tigger and I'm a Piglet fan, so I asked for those to be included. Otherwise, I told her to "have fun with it and we would be happy."
BTW Survivor is on tonight!:banana: I know all about the west coast lifestyle (lived in Vegas last year with all of our family and friends back east), so I promise not to post any spoilers!:)
Where abouts is the booking desk . . is it out in the open or in an office. I need to hide away as I am booking (long story!!) . . .
Hi everybody :)
We're still here - we've been busy beavers since Christmas.
Nice to see so many people have joined the group. Getting very excited about the cruise. Can't wait to meet you all.
Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do. Just wanted to pop in and say "hi!"
Good to see you back!!
I promise not to do the Carole, Ted, Bob and Alice if you promise not to do the "Jane, where's Tarzan" that was WAY before the Disney version or "Jane you ignorant..." from Saturday Night Live and before that it was "See Jane, Run Jane Run"
We are TOTALLY up for linking - we have late dinning (I asked for 8:00pm).
I'm also hoping to drop some more weight before starting to look for the dreaded bathing suit. :scared1:
Survivor Night - Yipee!!!:happytv:
Ok, lunch break is over - back to work.
I have a question about tendering in Grand Cayman....
We have the Stingray City Wave Runner tour booked for 9:00am in Grand Cayman (booked independently). We are scheduled to meet their transportation person at 8:30am on the pier. I know the first tender leaves the ship at 7:30am. Will there be enough time to meet the driver at 8:30 if we are able to get on one of the first tenders? Has anyone had any problems getting on the 7:30 tender if they do not have an excursion booked through Disney? I emailed the rep that we booked our tour with and she said that we should be just fine. I just want to be sure!!!!
As I remember, there is a bit of a line getting on the tender boats. If you make sure you guys are there super early, I don't see it being a problem. You don't travel by tender too far. However, make sure everyone gets back to the tender location early!!! The line an hour before the ship was set to leave was crazy long!
It's just a podium type thing overlooking the atrium on the port side. My pictures of the atrium show it on deck 4 (I think--I was taking a pic of the chandelier thing in the atrium, and I think I see the desk in the background). It's pretty out in the open. (Are you scheduling a surprise?!?!) :tiptoe:
We got on the 7:30 AM tender last time. The meeting place for non-DCL excursions was in the Buena Vista Theater (deck 5 aft), and after the first DCL excursion tender left, then they came for us. We were one of the last ones that got on the first boat. I think they have tenders pretty much nonstop (not just one boat going back & forth). We had plenty of time to meet at 8:30. (I can't remember which company are you going with, but if it's Cap'n Marvin's, the office is about 5 or so blocks away. BTW, if you want to take DCL towels for your excursion, you'll need to go to deck 9 and get them first before getting to the theater. I was under the impression that they would have them to hand out to us, but I think that's only for the DCL excursions. Justin was running up there last minute to get our towels as they came for us!
Hey Everyone! Almost another day gone off the calendar!!! :banana:
Does anyone else have a gty cat 12 that has gotten their room assignmnet yet? I keep looking everyday, but don't know how far out they give them?
Oh and hey my biker buddy Val;) If I switch my dining time, how do I go about switching it to link with ya :confused:
I've heard that the earliest cat 12s find out their rooms is about 25-30 days out... A bit of a bummer cause we have 3 cat 12's that we are not so patiently waiting for the cabin numbers for. :lmao:
