May 14, 2011 - Eastbound TransAtlantic

I am a chronic overpacker, so I am the last person to ask. Besides, I am always cold (once you've lived in Florida for a while, 70 is cold :lmao: ). But I don't think I'll be bringing any shorts. Possibly some knit capris to hang around on the ship and/or exercise in. A pair of jeans sounds good, and maybe some yoga pants or something to have variety and to wear for the flight home.

I'm probably going to be taking two pretty large bags . . . I am an overbuyer, too. :yay:

Deidre,
I am an overpacker. So, I am trying to par it down. Maybe only 1 pr of shorts. I will bring another pr of jeans/or pants. Plus , I have a pr of running shorts to exercise in.
Great suggestion on comfy pants. I do not own any. I have to go out today, so I will take a look.
I could easily take 2 bags. I am bringing a few sweaters to layer of shirts.

Hi guys! I'm an overpacker too and stsomewhere gives me inspiration to par it down! What does your packing list look like for evening/dinner?

evening:

3 nice dresses if I can find another before the cruise, it will be 4.
black capris- with a couple of dressy tops
maybe a sundress

1 pr dressy black sandals that will go with everything.

I am not bringing a formal dress.

At one point early on, there was a suggestion about possibly doing 'cabin tours'. Is there still interest in doing this?

...I noticed on the one and only other DIS cruise we were on (2009) that Ariel wasn't (ever) in the line-up to pose for photos/meet & greets. My youngest DD was sad about that, though she did meet her at Ariel's Grotto last year @ Calif Adv. Has anyone ever seen Ariel at an onboard photo op?

I haven't ever seen Ariel on the Magic. I did hear that she will be on the Dream, but not sure. Maybe they change them out, but I've only seen the same ones in 10 cruises! :confused3 Hope she is there for you guys this time!!

As for packing....I'm always over packing too, but when we did the ebta last year it was pretty cold for 2/3 of it. Then....it was nice & warm later on, so it was like packing for Alaska!!!! Layers, layers, layers! It was a month earlier of course, but with the wind & weather during the crossing days (6 sea days) we didn't use the pool at all & just weathered decks 9 & 10 for trips to get coffee & stuff. So being an over-packer finally served me!!

The room tours would be fun, I think. We just have a GTY (5C I think, still not used to the new numbers!), so not sure I can offer mine, not knowing what it is... :confused3 but I've never done a cabin tour before & it sounds like it would be great.

Ok, one more question since I've only gotten through a wee bit of this thread...what is the champagne girls event?

Thanks!!!!!

Cabin Tours sounds great , we only have an inside gty , but would love to see all the other categories, I have not noticed if anyone has a Suite , but would be nice to see all of the options, I will add to the spread sheet for Sea day TBD but thinking midday (1-3PM ish depending on # of cabins ) on the first sea day

I offer to Organize it

Too funny - so there is an actual tasting available? Is that something that can be arranged with the cruise line? I did look it up on the spreadsheet, but wasn't sure if it was a group event or a cruise line event or both... I would love to do that, but not sure I have anything pink? ;)

Thanks for the info!

Hi!
I did this on the Panama Canal Cruise. A lot of fun. It was a prearranged private DIS party in one of the bars. A CM did the "tasting" for us. I don't know how it was set up for us....but it was appreciated! DCL did have a charge of $15 per person. I don't know what is being done this time.

On party clothes.....get a pink t-shirt, cheap boas can be found at Michaels or Hobby Lobby craft stores, party stores and sometimes in Dollar Stores. We also wore tiaras. Some were really beautiful!! One had led lights and blinked and mine was a $2 selection from a pre teen jewelry store in the mall, CLAIRES.

We had a picture taken in the atrium with all of us. Daisy Duck was going by and she joined us for the picture. We loaned her a boa and tiara. Also assured her the boa wasn't made of DUCK feathers!!!

It was a fun, silly activity. I always did enjoy playing dress up!!! princess:

Oh thanks for the extra details - this sounds really fun & I would love to do a champagne tasting.

:woohoo: <--- couldn't find a champagne one!

Please don't feel like you HAVE to wear pink to the "pink ladies" Don't pack something just for it, there's no need to do that. I will call DCL once we get a little closer to inquire about setting up a private event for us. I also read on another report that they just arranged it themselves and each brought their own bottle of wine/champagne. They just did it after they had been to Madeira and that's where they all purchased wine to share. I'll get pricing from DCL and we can decide for ourselves how we want to do it. I tried calling today but was on hold for 35 minutes and gave up!

Barb got your PM I followed up via email with her

Thanks
Anthony

I can't send PM yet not enough posts yet

Hi Anthony,
Glad you updated on the post. I saw you didn't have enough posts for PMs and wasn't sure if you could receive them either.

Val is very helpful and kind and VERY organized! GLad I got you two in touch.
Thanks for organizing this for us.

Actually, I think ALL DISers have turned out to be exceptional people. Mickey and DIS, attract the best. :dance3:

Looking forward to meeting you soon!

Welcome, TxMermaid! Nice to see a kindred spirit onboard!

I've seen Ariel onboard... but not as a mermaid of course.

Is anyone organizing a secret mickey exchange? would like to be on the list if so. If not then will be happy to organize that event. Let me know if I can help with anything.....

TxMermaid, it's not on the rollcall but it's definitely something I'd be interested in doing. FEs are too much of a committment for me with school but I'd love to do a secret Mickey. Not sure if we'll have a ton of takers, but if you want to organize and add to the rollcall events page, that would be great. We can see how many peeps sign up and go from there...

How it works: Cruisers volunteer to let others visit their cabin and see what the different categories are like. So, on a sea day, at an established time, starting on the lowest deck, we visit the different category of cabins. It is great fun to parade down the halls meeting each other and getting a real look at those rooms we all take only a quick peak into as we pass an open door. Additionally, it allows us to share cabin living ideas such as use of an over-the-door shoe storage hanger to put all the “stuff” that ends up set everywhere; or printing a few 4x6x pictures each night at Shutters and decorating one wall as the cruise progresses.

It is added as its own tab (link on first page i still can't post links or it would be here too) do to info needed please fill info in there or PM me if you have a cabin to share.

Is it time to pack yet?

Thanks
Anthony, Dawn and Chantal

I'd be interested in a secret Mickey. I tend to overpack, so FE would probably take up too much space !!! :thumbsup2
