Here's a pic of Mari and I at Chef Mickey's. I know I haven't gotten that far in my TR yet, but I came across it and remembered that I was supposed to get it to Mari a few days ago!

Day 4 - Tuesday May 13 -

Today was our EARLY day! :goodvibes Alarm set (because the CSR phones didn't work all week we couldn't get any wake up calls) for 6:15AM. Remember we had the 7:30AM ADR at Ohana and the CM on the phone told me that we would NEVER make it there before 9 by WDW transportation. . . Yeah right!! Anyway, somehow I managed to get all my boys ready and out the door and to the bus stop by 6:55 in order to catch that 7:00 bus to MK. Just as we walked up here comes the MK bus and it was empty!!! :yay: A very nice driver opens the door and asks where we need to go. I play dumb and say - we need to get to Ohana at the Poly by 7:30, is this the bus we need to take??? He says "sure, I have one more stop and then I go to the MK where I can drop you and you can take the monorail to the Poly OR if you'd like I could take you to the Poly after I make a lap through MK because of my GPS I will get in trouble if I don't go to the MK first even though no one is getting off or on there." We are like - well that would be really great if you could take us to the Poly!! :woohoo: And we end up there by 7:12AM!! ( HAHA lady on the phone!) DH gives him and nice tip and we say our good-byes!

We get to Ohana and they take our picture and then seat us shortly. Our waitress tells us that we were lucky to get this table because we would be the 2nd table the characters would come to!! I am thrilled because I had heard complaints about the characters being slow there and not getting to your table in over an hour, and I really wanted to get to MK before opening. And out they came one by one, Stitch, Lilo, Mickey, and Pluto!! After awhile they did a cute little parade around the restaurant with the kids!! :cool1: We all had a great time!! The food was pretty good I guess, nothing like CP but still okay. The family style is okay, but we really prefer a buffet.

Then we hop on the monorail and make it to MK by 8:30!

We watch the MK opening for the first time. Then head right for Fantasyland. Ride PP, IASW, Pooh, see Philharmagic, and head for Tomorrowland. Ride SMtn and Buzz, see Monsters Inc. Head to Adventureland & Frontierland and ride BTMRR and POC. From there we take the train to Toontown and ride Barnstormer and visit Mickey and Minnie's houses. I don't think we waited more than 20 minutes for any of those. Tuesday is definitely the best day to go to MK!! By now it is about 1:30 and we are getting hungry, so we go to Casey's for hot dogs and mini-corndogs for the kids! We find a shady spot outside and eat and the kids feed the ducks and birds. After we ate we went to get a spot for the parade. DS6 & DH saved a spot while DS9 and I went and got fastpasses to finally ride SplashMtn for the first time. The fastpasses were good at 3-4:00! Perfect!! We watched the parade and went back over to Splash. DH & DS6 waited on the bridge while we rode. What an awesome ride!! We were in the very back seat and hardly got wet at all!! Then we did some shopping and went back to CSR for an evening of swimming and relaxing.

Shelly - Your trip reports are great! Great pics of your family at WDW - your boys look like they are having a great time. I also like the pic of you and Mari.

Jo: Glad to hear that you got your stitches out. It's a bummer you are still sore. I hope you have a nice relaxing weekend holiday with your family.

Mornin everyone!

Mark jsut got back around midnight from Cali. He's exhausted.

Sea- I hope your foot is better and you take it easy for a bit this weekend. It's a good thing I wasn't going to be there for this weekend, LOL. That Indy movie sounds so good! Bugs don't bother me- I'm scared of snakes. Belle has an extreme fear of all things crawly so she screams often. Drew is known as her "Bug Slayer" and comes running when she howls. It's cute. I hope you have a relaxing weekend!!
Thanks for asking about my jaw. It's better- very sore. The dr took the stitches out yesterday, so I have steri strips on my chin. Did I tell y'all that the ER doc looked like a 400 pound Mr Miyagi that spoke broken English??? I'll save that story for another day. hahahahaha

Have a great weekend, If I don't talk to you all before then!

:snooty:

Jo

Katiebell- I keep forgetting to tell you all of the reasons we love POFQ. I'll post them all when I have time. I think you and your Husband will like it. I really don't ever want to stay anywhere else. POR - I know RF had a not so wonderful experince over there- but it is so huge. I don't like a spread out , massive resort, so I think that's why I love POFQ. Will you be renting a car???

Not renting a car...just ME from the airport and then relying on the kindness of WDW transportation   I think I mentioned this, but one thing we love at DL that we really really missed at WDW is that instead of New Orleans Square, it's Liberty Square. Still very cool, but NOS is just about our favorite place to hang out and relax at DL -- we just love the atmosphere! :goodvibes So I think POFQ will be a lot of fun...I've heard the live music in Scat Cat's is good, and we might even spring for a carriage ride one night...so yes, please, anything you have to say about why you love POFQ, I'd absolutely love to hear it. And yes, for just DH and me, smaller and cozier is a much better type resort for us.

Well, we survived the 13th birthday yesterday!

I'm off this morning to the awards ceremony at ds's school!

Happy birthday to your DS! :thumbsup2

So I was looking over the DDP. It looks like our bills totaled: $561 in TS, $340 in CS, and $84 Snacks. For a grand total of $985. I believe we paid something like $675 for it for 7 days. So looking at it that way we saved $310. But, had we not had it we wouldn't have made a TS everyday and we certainly never would have spent $84 in snacks!! On Friday we had 21 snack credits left so we had to use them up and we just went and got a bunch of stuff at the candy store to bring home.

I just can't decide if we should do it again or not. It's nice to be able to try all the different restaurants and have nice meals. But at the same time all those TS meals really slow us down and take away from our park time. We always feel rushed to make the ADR's. . . . So I just don't know!!!!! :confused3 Decisions. . . Decisions. . . .

Since it's just DH and me, our touring style is different than when we were taking younger kids. We want a TS meal every day, and consider it part of our entertainment, especially if it's a character meal, or a theme place (like we are trying PT50's this time, and might try to drop in to Sci Fi late that night for a shake, just because we loved the theme :goodvibes). The DDP last year was a bit too much -- although I sure miss the tip being included! -- but I think it will work out fine this year. If I had gone deluxe, we would be doing the signature restaurants, but not this time around. Just couldn't bring myself to pay that much more. :rotfl2: We figured if we averaged $25 each for a TS meal, $10 each for CS (and both of those including drinks), and then just one snack a day each (which we might use for breakfast, or ice cream, or whatever :mickeybar), then we break even. But the meals always work out to much more than that. Just last night we did takeout from Outback -- so no beverage charges, just food -- and it was still over $38 for just the two of us! :scared1: And of course, this year we are getting free dining in September, so pretty hard to go wrong with that. But I would have definitely had to crunch the numbers if we could have found a good room discount instead and paid OOP for our food.

Morning all.... really busy at work for some odd reason. So i might not be able to get to another episode of TR until later today.... plus it feels as if nobody is reading it :( .... as long as my Mayer friends enjoy it i don't care.... well off to a meeting.... talk to you guys later...

Hey, don't you dare leave us hanging!!! (Not like poor pirate Mickey,) All of your Mayer friends are absolutely loving your TR. And sheesh, who the heck is going to come read mine when I get back in October???

No, I definitely will not get it when the kids (at age 10) are considered adults. That's ridiculous. $38 a day for a kid that can't even finish a kids meal! :sad2: They really should have a junior price for that age group or something.

I'm thinking that if we went for 7 days we would be just fine with about 3 TS meals. 7 is too many. Too much rushing around. Too much food. Yeah, I think we might ditch the DDP next trip. . .

Yep, with 11-12 year olds who don't eat much, it could be a total waste of money. But...it could save you a ton in a few years when they are teenagers. Teen boys eat like locusts!!!!!!!! If they'd have had a dining plan at DL when my boys were teenagers, I would have scheduled a buffet meal every single day  Of course, who knows what the DDP will look like in a couple of years -- maybe it will be a dinner roll, bottle of water, and a Mickey Bar or a Dole Whip -- $89.99/day :rotfl2:

Lovin it!

I knew you could make it to Ohana! No problem. I am so glad to have a "friend" tell me that they really will drop you at the Poly for the meal! That rocks! (Invision me giving the rock on sign like your DS! That kid cracks me up!)

OK - When I saw your photo on Splash Mountain, at first I thought. "Holy Crap! Shelly has lost her mind. She is letting a total stranger use her camera on the bridge to take a picture of her on the ride while she waited in line and then rode Splash." Uh, then I remembered that your DH and other DS aren't on the ride! :lmao:

My favorite pic is of your boys on the monorail. I didn't get to ride the monorail this year. :sad1:

Keep it coming!

hey everyone!!!:snooty:

i miss my mayers - it's been so crazy around here - i barely have had time to check in...

alright i'm gonna attemp TR PART DEUX!!!

DAY 2 - MAY 6TH MAGIC KINGDOM

we set an alarm for 6:15 - got up at 9:30 :rotfl2: we got the day started by going to our food court at POR - which was okay... i was never really impressed with the selection there but, what can you do? Bob got hot chocolate, which i found to be incredibly random in florida in 80 degree weather but, hey to each his own right?

we get on the bus to MK rockin the mickey ears that we got the night before at epcot - on the bus i start to see the tippy top of the castle and i get butterflies in my stomach - i am sooooo excited - and i tell bob to look the other way because i want him to have the experience of seeing it for the first time at the end of main street :cloud9:

so, we arrived at the magic kingdom and the first thing that we bump into is the main street usa show/parade.... and we stop and watch until it's over... i remember leaning over and telling DH that this is why disney is so magical - you're just walking down the street and all of a sudden there's a parade!

we go straight to the map of the park because we are both rookies and don't know where anything is at :lmao: so, we decide that tomorrowland for a fp for space mountain is our fist mission. Buzz lightyear was the first ride that we did that day(1st time for both) - followed by Stitch's great escape(1st time for both) - then we head over to space mountain - all 3 we loved ...

after wandering around tomorrowland for a while - we went to frontierland and FP SM (my favorite!!!!! :yay: ) and rode BTMR. (i found the hidden mickey at the end of the ride :thumbsup2 ) then we took the little boat and went to tom sawyer island - the driver was so cute - he said when he was parking the boat "alright, kids if you want to lose your parents - head to the caves - parents, if you want to lose your kids - head to the caves" he was just this little old man and i just wanted to squeeze him - he was too cute :goodvibes .... so when we got there we went the opposite way than everyone else so i'm pretty sure that we missed some stuff - but it was still really cute over there - we went on the little rickety bridges and took pictures in front of "tom loves becky" signs - it was really fun and we got some really cute pictures :lovestruc
and on the trip back we we're saying that it was really nice that we had so much time on our vacation - because normally we would skip something like that for a bigger attraction and we were really happy we got to go over there.

after frontierland we headed to lunch at the columbia harbour house - food was pretty good - standard, CS food, but good. I had a BLT salad and Bob had a chicken basket with fries... the bathroom at that place was ridiculously small and i would be very familiar with it the rest of the trip

after lunch we go to the haunted mansion and go to fantasyland afterward - we saw phillharmagic for the 1st time and we both LOOOOOVVVEEEEED it!!! It may be my new favorite thing at WDW overall!!! it was soo cute! we FP peter pan and got in line for IASW after that we went to Snow White and that was cute too (if you can't tell - there is a theme running through here - we love all rides big and small) when we come out of SW - and there is a CM standing there and he introduces himself as Neil from the "dream squad"

I THINK TO MYSELF - THIS IS IT!!!! I AM STAYING IN THE CASTLE - OH MY GOD!!! THE PINS ARE TOTALLY WORTH IT AND THESE SILLY HATS JUST PAID FOR THEMSELVES!!! :scared1: :yay: :scared1: :yay: so he asks us when we got married - offers us some advise and starts to ask us some info about ourselves... and he starts filling something out - OMG - OMG - i think to myself - this is how it happens... like they pick SW - the most random ride for two grown folks with no kids getting off of it and say "hey you've been chosen!!!"

So, Neil calls everyones attention (and my heart drops) and starts to tell them to congratulate our new marriage and has everyone sing happy birthday to me (even though - in our conversation i tell him that it's on sunday - but whatever) so then he asks us if we are staying for the fireworks tonight and i stupidly say "no - we have dinner reservations at o'hana - but we're hoping to see them from there"

"DOUGH- YOU IDIOT!!!" they don't give stuff like that away to people who leave during the fireworks - so Neil says "Oh ok, well have a great night here is your congratulations certificates for your honeymoon - your husbands first trip - and your upcoming birthday"

awwwwww - no trip to the castle but Neil was still awesome... i still wonder what would have happened if i said i would be there for the fireworks...  ;)

anyways - we walk toward dumbo and BRIEFLY consider it - but, decide that an hour is way tooooo long for the two of us to wait for a flying elephant...
and we start to walk toward the front to head back to the resort to get ready for dinner later that night... as we are leaving we catch the tail end of the parade as we are walking towards the gates at around 4 or 4:30

SO, we go back to the hotel and crash for a while - shower - change - go to the Polynesian before our dinner. We left more than enough time to get there because we were hoping they could take us early - NO luck - so we head down to the beach and stroll around for a while - laid in the hammocks - watched the ducks (one of which looked like a duck version of Gary Bucci - CRAZZZZY and strung out :rotfl: ) and watched the boats - saw them setting up for a bonfire they were i guess going to have there later that night...it was so amazingly relaxing - those hammocks were maybe the best part of that whole day...

then we go upstairs to check in and request window seats for the fireworks (proudly displaying our "just married" pins) :rolleyes1 and they say they are a little behind schedule so it'll be another 20 minutes ... booooo :sad2: - oh well we go to the bar and we each get one of those "blue glowtini's" - - - they are STROOONG! it almost knocked me on my behind!!! :cool2:

we waited more like 35 minutes - but we did get like the best seats in the house and a really cool "cousin" to serve us

the food was amazing!!! I love Ohana more everytime i go there. So after everything - our meal - the fireworks - we get a special dessert from the kitchen. Strawberry tuxedos and dresses on a plate that said "congratulations bob and heather" soooo cute - and good:dance3:

SO that was our whole day 2!!! After that we just went back to our hotel and went to bed because the next day was rope drop at MGM!!!

On a side note - I love love love love the poly - i will totally stay there some day when i'm rich :rotfl:

Hey Mayers!!! Poppin' in to say hi while I've got a few free minutes :).

I'm loving all of the TRs!!! It's great to see and hear how your time here went.

It's been a rough couple of weeks, all of the Spring (Jan-May) CPs have left over the past few weeks, so out of the 11 of us that started in Jan at M:S, there are now only 3 left counting me. It's been really hard and sad saying goodbye to so many friends and partners-in-crime :) (practical jokes are an integral part of M:S)....However, my parents are arriving on Monday with my car, which will be great. I'm so excited to see them again!

In random news, I rode TSM (Toy Story Mania) for the first time Thursday. It's now in soft-opening. It's so much fun, I'll try to get my pics uploaded from my camera tomorrow night.

Hi Sulley - Thanks for popping in and saying hi. Glad to hear you are doing well having a great time.

Ha ha- we won't do DDP again with the family being as large as it is. I think when we have been on it before, we just ordered to try to justify the cost of it. You know, why did I actually NEED to order two milkshakes, an appetizer, the salad, the entree, AND then dessert???? HAHAHA

As far as POFQ- the following was taken from a post I did a while back when someone had asked if there was anyone who didn't like that resort. I have to say I love it. But you know... there are a lot of people who don't. WE tend to like quiet, small, intimate places that are geared more for the "grown ups". I think that POFQ fits us totally.

"I loved the fact that the resort was small and compact. I loved that I could walk from one end of the resort to the other in under 5 minutes. I loved the dark wood of the rooms. I thought housekeeping was awesome. We got towel animals everyday. I don't think Shelly got any.:confused3

I loved the theming of the resort. I loved the fact that I didn't have the "Disney Magic" thrown in my face from the time my eyes popped open until I dragged my poor, tired body to bed at night. After a long day of being around crowds for 12 hours at the parks, I like nothing more than to sit in peace and tranquility, listening to the sounds of crickets chirping while I soak my feet (or body) in the hot tub.;)

I loved waking early in the mornings before the world came to life and walking over to grab a cup of coffee, then taking it down to the river to watch the birds and wildlife waking up, and listening to the river lapping at the sides of the river bank. I loved being able to walk over to POR and visually understanding why I never want to stay at that resort. (For me, I did not care for the sheer size of it, and the crowded food court really turned me off.)

I loved hearing the "clip-clop" of the horse and carriage, and the gas lanterns at night as I strolled the resort hand in hand with my DH.
I will say that POFQ reminds me of my hometown, Charleston SC, so maybe that is what appeals to me.

I think that POFQ might appeal more to adults than to kids or parents on vacation with kids; however, we will be staying there with our children in October. So we will see what they think.

They have previously stayed at POP, and we really, really didn't like it. Even the kids said they disliked it. I know many people love it, though, and so I understand when people say they don't like a resort.

We rented a car, so the busses were a non issue for us. As was the food court. We never eat breakfast, and that would have been the only time we'd use the food court. We stay in the parks from rope drop until closing each night.

I think ultimately, what this thread has proven, is that everyone has their own ideas about what they look for in a resort. You just have to try them all until you find one you love. One of the last things that sealed it for me was the first night we drove back in to POFQ after being at MK all day and when we pulled up to the gate, my DH rolled down the window to tell the guard to "Have a great night" and before DH could say anything, the guard said "Welcome Home!!". As we pulled off, DH looked at me and I at him, and we both smiled. Because to us, it was like coming home. We had found our resort.:cloud9:"

Hey Sulley! I am so sorry we didn't make it to see you!!! Every time we got a minute, I think it was your day off, so we just didn't make it over to the ride. We definitely will be there in October, though. Mary C and I are already planning it. Could you ride with us???????

Hope everyone's day is going good! We're enjoying the sun! I'm making a dessert for a barbeque we're going to tomorrow- Mark is sealing our stamped concrete patio.

Have a great day, MAYers!

I sort of enjoyed the non-Disneyish of POR but at the same time it never really hit me I was in Disney World until I saw the Castle Sunday when we went to MK. (And that was even after spending the first part of the day at AK). I wanted to feel the Disney Magic the whole time, but didn't really.

And our hot tub was always full of little kids, I was so looking forward to soaking in the hot tub, but it was always filled.

I love the cricket chirping too.

RF - Did you get to see that Bob play piano at POR? I loved him! I was even singing along and pounding my chest everytime he blew his horn and I hardly ever participate in stuff like that!

Hi! to all the MAYers...:wave2:

Hello MAYers! We just got back and we're all exhausted. I plan to do a full trip report with pictures! I took tons of pics, including food pics for restaurant reviews.

JC!!! Long time no see!!! How have you been??? Good to see you back on the Mayer's thread...I've been wondering how you are doing :)

I see you are going back to the world in just a couple of months. We have about 4 months to go...going 9/19-9/26, trying out free dining this time, and staying at POFQ. What are the details on your trip?
