We just booked 3 rooms at pop century for may 11-18. Wanted to know what the crowds will be like. THere will be 7 adults, and 2 children (age 2). We are hoping the crowds won't be too bad. If anyone knows what they were like last year for these dates. let me know. Also, if anyone has stayed at pop century, what are the pros and cons? Thanks so much!

DH and I stayed at Pop last Oct. when crowds aren't supposed to be that high. It was horrible. We waited in line for 30 minutes to check in and we always had to wait at least 15 minutes for a bus and they were always standing room only. Also the way the food court is set up open to the store it is HORRIBLY noisey. We had a much better time when we stayed at All-Star Music and that was over labor day weekend. We are also thinking about going in May. The 8th-14th. Someone reminded though that the Celebration starts May 5th, so I would imagine that May crowds are going to be high.

On the plus side. It's a new resort and it shows and some of the rooms have views of the fireworks from Epcot.

I'm also scheduled to be at Pop from May 17-23 - trying to get to Star Wars Weekends for the 1st time, YAY!!!!!

Starting to re-think my vacation - I usually go in mid-September when there are NO crowds - don't know if I can handle crowds and with Star Wars Weekends and the 50th celebration it SHOULD be hopping at WDW in May, that's for sure.

We used to always go Mid may up until 2 years ago. Now we can't go until July because of School.

Anyway, it was never crowded. The weather was perfect. If we could, we would choose that time every year. Oh well.

Even with the Celebration beginning in May, kids are still in school.

Have fun and enjoy.

We are going from May 14th - May 22nd. I can't wait!

We were there in '04 at the exact same time. The weather was AWESOME and the crowds were incredible! The only day that we noticed a considerable difference was on Friday. We were told that there were buses of school children doing tours at Epcot. We had an amazing time.

However, I would wonder about this year because of the 50th Anniversary Celebration. To be honest...that is why we chose April this year rather than May again! Good Luck...and remember...you're at the world even if it is busy! :wizard:

We took our DD4 in mid September 2003 and, because we loved it so much, back again May 15-22, 2004 to avoid the summer crowds while still getting another trip in before Kindergarten started in the fall.

Don't know about the Pop, but the CR was not very crowded as we basically got the room we requested (requested 11th flr MK view and got 9th or 10th flr MK view) with zero wait (in either the check-in line or with room readiness - we arrived about 1 pm). The parks, however, were a different story. While certainly not horrible, we were terribly spoiled by the prior September trip - where the parks seemed vacant by comparison.

Anyway, we decided that if we thought May was bad that we would be miserable during the school breaks so we are going back in mid-September 2005. I am feeling a little guilty as I had to have a foot in the grave before I was allowed to miss school, and never did I miss more than 2 consecutive days - in fact I probably only missed 20 days total in my entire K-12 career.

Are we terrible parents for pulling our DD out of first grade for a week? I'm thinking it is not too detrimental until perhaps middle school where getting a week behind could be difficult to recover from. Is there a rationalizing emoticon?

Exactly why I am going to homeschool my kids. :teeth: We can go anytime we want. :cool1:

Hey MP! Our new DS is 3 weeks and 1 day old today as well! Big Sister can't wait to take him on his first trip next September. When is yours making the first trip?

We will go this May if DH agrees to it. He was only a big Disney fan the first trip. Now he's like those "other" people who think once you've gone that's enough. :sad2:

We have gone around that time in the past and the weather was GREAT and the crowds weren't too bad. But no-one knows what affect the new celebration will have on crowds. Hope you have a good time! :)

P.S. For you newer folks, just a warning about asking on the boards what others think about taking kids out of school for Disney or anything else - it can get downright NASTY and folks get very self-righteous about their opinion. Just wanted to let you know... (and yes, we are some of those awful parents who take their kids out for a week every year.. :) )

You will love homeshooling your kids. The freedom is beyond description!

Also, my hubby is one of those too. Loved it the first time but it was enough for him. I gave up on him and now take other family members.
This year I'm taking my mother and my kids to spend Mothers Day at WDW. It will be my mothers first trip out of our state in 30 years!

We'll be there May 6-10. Hoping for low crowds. We've always gone right after Thanksgiving when the crowds are nonexistent. I'm a little uneasy about trying a new time of year.

Jill, thanks for the heads up! Is there a thread in particular that discussed this topic? I would love to read it, including any shall we say, passionate rebuttals. I make it a rule to never get offended on a message board. I tried to use the search function and could not get it limited to thread titles and thus had way too many hits.
